Hardware :: Touch Desktop Is Here And It's Already Stylish
Jul 9, 2008
People have commented before on the HP Touchsmart IQ770:and I'm sure we'd agree that it's a hideous monstrosity. However, HP have another model that looks quite a bit betterIt's not a true touch screen and the gestures don't look very intuitive but I'm beginning to think that Apple should be getting closer to releasing a touch desktop in one form or another.I can't think what the best route would be though. A slate has obvious uses but it's a risky product. True touch screen iMacs could increase cost for little pay-off if the apps don't work well with touch and they have enough trouble with those displays as it is doing the basics without touch features going wrong.
I recently received a 15" Powerbook G4 with Leopard installed on it. I was trying to move some iTunes files when I realized that my 2nd Generation iPod Touch was not being recognized on the Desktop or Finder. The catch is that iTunes did know my iPod was hooked up. Anyone got any ideas on how i can make the iPod visible on desktop?
Apple has brought the multi-touch gestures available to MacBook users to the desktop with its new $69 Magic Trackpad, as well as a new battery charger for wireless devices like the Magic Trackpad, Apple keyboard, and Magic Mouse.Magic TrackpadThe Magic Trackpad offers Apple's patented multi-touch technology through a smooth glass and aluminum design. It enables users to scroll smoothly up and down a page with inertial scrolling, pinch to zoom in and out, rotate an image with fingertips and swipe three fingers to flip through a collection of Web pages or photos.
The Magic Trackpad can be configured to support single button or two button commands and supports tap-to-click as well as a physical click.Photos of Apple's Magic Trackpad first leaked earlier this summer, showing the multitouch desktop accessory before it was even announced. Earlier this month, the device received FCC approval, though at the time it was simply identified as a mysterious Bluetooth device.Apple first brought multi-touch functionality to its desktops last year with the Magic Mouse, a Bluetooth wireless mouse that allows users to use their fingers to scroll and zoom via the surface of the hardware. Every iMac and Mac Pro comes with the Magic Mouse, though users can now order the new Magic Trackpad for $69 as an option.
Apple Battery Charger Apple claims its new Battery Charger sets a new industry standard by having the lowest standby power usage value ? or "vampire draw" ? of any similar charger on the market. That's the energy most chargers continue to draw after their batteries are fully charged.Instead, the Apple Battery Charger senses when its batteries are done charging and automatically reduces the amount of power it needs. In addition, the reusable batteries that come with each Apple Battery Charger are designed to maintain a high charge capacity for hundreds of charges, so you no longer have to buy new batteries or toss them every few months. Each Apple Battery Charger comes with six AA NiMH batteries, intended to allow users to run their keyboard keyboard and mouse or trackpad, while allowing two more for spare charging.
"Unlike many other reusable batteries, these batteries have an incredibly long service life ? up to 10 years," Apple said. "Which means you can finally break the cycle of buying and disposing of those toxic, single-use alkaline batteries. The batteries that come with the Apple Battery Charger kit also have an extraordinarily low self-discharge rate. Even after a year of sitting in a drawer, they still retain 80 percent of their original charge. That way you always have backup power when you need it[URL]
Not bought my MBP just yet (waiting for credit card) but Im looking at a backpack to protect it.I need space for the essentials for the laptop (charger, mouse , ... ) and also room for at least a big water bottle (1.5 litres) and a lunch box as I like to take food to work and be very hydrated during the day :P . Does any one know of a back pack that could meet my demands?I want something with plenty of padding, looking to also consider actually getting a light weight cover for the laptop to protect it from scratches too..
I'm looking for a sleeve for my new 17" MBP!I'm thinking about something without zipper and a nice tight fit. And of course it should be gorgeous to look at
[I know my title is asking for my Smarty pants comments from all jokesters out there, but hopefully I can get some help from the ladies on what they have used and like the best. Here is a link with a list of a few. Has anyone tried any of these or can recommend others?
I have been looking at the videos showing the multi touch track pad and was wondering what program they are using to demo the multi touch as i cannot get the trackpad to rotate like in the video. i am opening the pics in iPhoto.
I've been looking all over the internet for a way to get my HTC Touch pro to sync with my mac's entourage. My mac isn't registering the phone when i attach it, but it recognizes my old phones mini sd card.
I don't mind buy one of the programs like MissingSync, but i want to make sure its going to work before I purchase it.
I've tried syncmate's trial and it is on my computer, but it tells me to plug the phone in even when it is plugged in already.
I have a 17" MacBook Pro (early 2007). I was having a problem with the touch pad button not responding. Tired using a USB mouse - still had a problem. Lost all control of mouse.
SOLUTION: Battery had swollen slightly causing pressure on area below touch pad. Got a new battery (under extended warranty) at no cost; problem solved! It took the "Mac Genius" at the Apple store about 2 minutes to diagnose the problem.
I'm debating whether to get the trackpad or the Bamboo touch.Based on this review, the magic trackpad might not function fully on pre-unibody MBP without the built-in multi-touch trackpad.Quote:
One limitation of the Magic Trackpad will affect owners of MacBooks and MacBook Pros introduced before mid-2008: any gestures not supported by the built-in trackpad won't work with the Magic Trackpad either. So, if you were hoping that the Magic Trackpad would give your old MacBook all the features of Apple's newer laptop trackpads, you'll find the magic missingAnybody had the same experience? Or with the subsequent updates from Apple, the issues have been ironed out?
When I wake up my MBA (re-open lid). I notice for about 5secs I can't use the touchpad, it's inoperable. But after the 5secs it starts working again. This used to be instant then after the Firmware update it does this.
Does anyone know if there's a way to get "10 key touch" out of a BT Alu Apple keyboard? Sort of like on Laptops you can hold function and the right side of your keyboard becomes numbers?
I tried this and it does not work, it would be nice to have this functionality.
I was wondering about touch screens for older iMac G4s. I don't know if anyone has ever done this but I'd like to put one of the older iMac G4s in the kitchen and would love for it to have a touchscreen. I've heard of people using the Wacom tablets behind the LCD screens in iBooks/Macbooks to make them tablet PCs. Would this idea work in the iMac?
I can't find anything on google, at least on the first 4 pages .
I have a 1 year old MB and I've noticed recently that the button on the touch pad no longer has a physical click to it. It still works but it feels (perhaps) mushy. Could this be the start of a bigger problem?
i have a couple of audiobook CD's here and imported them into itunes, but its displaying the tracks like music. i want them all nice and neat in my audiobook section as if i downloaded it, how?
I have a 15" 2008 uMBP and it seems like the screen is very hard, sort of like my iPod Touch screen, so I'm guessing fingerprints won't harm it in the least. Do you guys touch it, or allow people to touch it?
I have started using spaces quite a bit recently and I'm not a huge user of expos. I was wondering if there was a way to change the 4 fingered swipe to switch between spaces? So swiping 4 fingers up would go to the space above and similar actions with left, right and down.
Question, I just got a new Magic Mouse - is there a protective film on the top/touch surface that it ships with? I can't see an obvious layer to peel, but the top surface feels very "sticky" vs slippery as they do in the store, making it difficult to swipe or scroll effectively.I just don't want to pick at the mouse senselessly and scratch it if it really doesn't have a film layer on it.
Would it be cool to have dual-OS on the Macbook Air with Touch Screen? Apple is withholding any news from their Mac lineup update, I agree with this post about the likelihood of hybrid Macs in the near future. Apple surely wants the iAD readership expand?

So i decided not to sell my free ipod touch, however my mbp won't recognize that i've plugged the ipod touch in. I spoke on the phone with applecare and was able to restore the touch but neither the laptop or itunes will even recognize it's there. However, applecare is closed now and i would really like to be able to use it for work tomorrow.
I know my usb ports work, i've tried 3 different cables, tried restarting the touch , the ipod touch charges but since it's new the startup screen telling me to plug it into the computer, is all i can access on the touch. I just updated itunes and restarted my mbp and still nothing.
When I plug in my Ipod touch, Itunes does not recognize it as a device. I can get the Ipod to charge and be recognized as a camera for iphoto, but nothing from itunes. My apps, that I previously had on itunes and my ipod are also missing. I've already tried all the trouble shooting tips?
