Hardware :: Keyboard Keypad Not Working - How To Fix It

iMac G5 rev.A OS 10.4.11, Original Apple Pro Keyboard
I never noticed that the numerical keypad on the RH side of my keyboard was inoperative, in that I cannot use the keys to type the digits in any text, nor for entering numbers in an Excel spreadsheet cell.
I never use it except to use the 12346789 keys to nudge the pointer. I always use, by habit I guess, the number keys above the letter keys.
I checked the Finders Help and did not find any specific info about the numerical keypad. I thought that may be the Extended Keyboard that came with the computer, somehow had not been identified properly when I installed OS 10.4. Reading Finders help about that subject, it said to Open Preferences, Click Keyboard and Mouse, Click Keyboard, Click the Change Keyboard Type button, and Follow the steps when the Keyboard Setup Assistant appears.

My husband gave me a Mac Mini for my birthday. So far so good but it is a little frustrating learning a new operating system after working with MS Windows since the beginning.
I'm using my Dell flat screen monitor and keyboard and my Microsoft wireless mouse. With MS windows I used the keypad on the right side of the keyboard for the arrows/pgup/pgdn/home, etc. to move around the screen and did not use the number functions (I turned number lock off). With my Mac Mini it only gives me the numbers and the number lock OFF does not work.
Question: how can I turn the number lock off so I can use the arrows/pgup/pgdn/home, etc. on the keypad?

Does anyone know if or when Apple might make a MacBook, any model with a numeric keypad.
Even the cheap windows laptops have a numerical keypad why doesn't Apple?

Just bought a new wired keyboard with numberic keypad. It isn't flat and wobbles anytime I use the keypad, arrows, and even delete/backspace.
I know that the keyboard has received mixed reviews in regards to manufacturing and quality but has anyone else had this problem?
Want to know if I have a good chance of having the same problem if I return it and try another one.

I'll be purchasing a new iMac soon and was curious to know your thoughts and opinions on the different keyboard options.
Option #1: Apple Wireless Keyboard
From Apple Site: For the ultimate in flexibility and to minimise cable clutter, choose the Apple Wireless Keyboard. Its ultra-compact size allows you to place your mouse comfortably next to your keyboard and fits on even the most crowded desk. It communicates with your Mac over a reliable, secure Bluetooth wireless connection. And advanced power management hardware and software extends the life of your AA batteries (included), giving you up to nine months of battery life (based on average usage patterns).
Option #2: Apple Keyboard
From Apple Site: The wired Apple Keyboard offers a compact design that lets you place your mouse comfortably next to your keyboard and fits on even the most crowded desk. Two USB 2.0 ports let you connect your mouse as well as a high-speed peripheral such as a digital camera or printer.
Option #3: Apple Keyboard w/ Numeric Keypad
From Apple Site: The wired Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad offers an extended layout that includes document navigation controls page up, page down, home and end and full-size arrow keys for playing games and scrolling through documents. Its numeric keypad is perfect for spreadsheets and finance applications. And two USB 2.0 ports let you connect your mouse as well as a high-speed peripheral such as a digital camera or printer.
So, what is the advantage to having a wireless keyboard for a desktop computer? If I'm planning on simply sitting at a desk in front of my computer, isn't a wireless keyboard somewhat pointless? The only advantage I can see is having less wires on your desk. Now, I'm intrigued by the other two keyboards because of the additional USB ports. Can anybody vouch for how necessary the numeric keypad is? Is the smaller keyboard a big advantage in terms of desk space?

I have an iMac (24inch first gen aluminum one). The keyboard shorted out and the mighty mouse roller ball at the top doesn't always work. I noticed that the current mac wireless bluetooth keyboard does not have a numeric keypad. What's a good mac compatible keyboard that has bluetooth and a numeric keypad. Also, what are some good options for mice? I don't play games on the computer, I use it for web stuff, MS office stuff, and aperture for photo editing.

I'm reorganising my home office, and as a result trying to get rid of as many wires as possible due to the change in desk space. I'm already going to swap my Logitech MX518 mouse for an MX Revolution, but I'm looking for a keyboard.
I love the Apple keyboards, but the bluetooth version is no good as it doesn't have the numeric keypad. I used this heavily for my job.
I was recommended the Logitech diNovo Edge Mac edition, which looks awesome, but again, no numeric keypad.
Anybody got any recommendations for a fast, slimline wireless keyboards (eg, not one of those hulking clacky multimedia keyboards) that has the numeric pad?

The numeric keypad portion of my keyboard does not work for some reason. I have tried pressing the "clear" button ovet the "7" key but no go. I have to force quit now when in InDesign if I use the number pad by mistake. HAve repaired disc permissions and disc, am at wits end.

I am about to get an iMac but I don't really want that magic mouse thats given free with it because I don't want that extra bluetooth radiation, nor do I want that cordless bluetooth keyboard for the same reason. So I am thinking of getting the mighty mouse instead and the numeric keypad keyboard.

I need to do a lot of number entries and bought the Targus USB Keypad to use with my Macbook Pro. The problem is that it doesn't seem to work too well,. It enters the number then immediately clears it. It works fine without NumLock on but I need it with the numbers, not for navigation. Is there some kind of software I need to make it work right? I don't have a lot of money to spend but I suppose I can buy a new one. Just can't afford to get the wireless Mac keyboard which would probably solve the whole problem though I really only need the number keypad!

Can someone explain to me why Apple has refused to make a wireless version of their full size keyboard with the numeric keypad? Their wired version is great, but I can't stand wires. When my full size white Apple keyboard went to the sandbox in the sky last year, I dropped $120 for a brand new one I found online (high price to the fact Apple didn't make them anymore then), and now that one has just taken a dump -- I spilt literally three drops of water on it and the space bar stopped working completely.
Now I'm stuck with Apple's micro wireless keyboard until they come out with the full size wireless one - if ever.

My Wireless mac keypad has stopped properly working. The keys sometime do not correspond to the result, or a a simultaneous duel actio, for example when the delete button is pressed the. Ursor does go backwards, but it also turns the sound up. The keyboard is properly connected to the computer, and the battery life is up in the nineties.

Yesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.

So my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.

I'm yet to figure out a pattern, but my Macbook Pro's keyboard will just stop working for several minutes at a time at random points in time...Even if I hit caps or num lock, they don't turn green. Sometimes it'll just happen once every few hours, but I was in class the other day and it would work for a minute, then not work for a few, than work for another minute, etc.

I recently spilled a protein shake over my mb pro. It spilled on the right side, but I quickly cleaned it with a wet tissue and dried it up. The problem, now, is that the illuminated keyboard isn't working..only a few random keys are working and the rest aren't..
What should I do? I have a 1 year warranty left, but I'm not sure it'll be covered.

I just got a generic usb keyboard to use with my mbp as schoolwork is taking its toll on the keys and I wouldn't mind preserving it a little better. This keyboard is the dynex from bbuy that's labeled in windows crap but was cheap and works fine on the mac. Unfortunately, everytime the mbp comes out of sleep, the keyboard is unresponsive and i have to set it up again in settings.
Just hoping there's a simple fix and that it's not terminal

I installed 10.5.7 yesterday. Immediately after the installation was complete, my Apple bluetooth keyboard stopped working. Went into Bluetooth system settings, and it said that there was no bluetooth hardware found... (it's built into the machine!!)...
Also, every time I start iTunes, it gives some weird error about Adobe Flash player. I'm not at home now so I don't have the exact wording of the error with me, sorry...

The product I didn't know I was waiting for arrived this afternoon, and it looks pretty good, surprisingly. The key feel is great, and despite being made of plastic it looks very, very convincingly aluminum. The build quality of the battery compartment isn't great, so here's hoping it has a long battery life.

I'm using the bluetooth Apple ultra-thin keyboard. While I like it's small size, and wireless freedom; I miss the numeric keypad.
A simple solution would be to purchase a numeric keypad, but if it's not wireless, it defeats the purpose of using the Bluetooth keyboard.
I found Logitech's cordless numeric keypad, but looks like it lacks mac support.
Has anyone used it before, or perhaps know of an alternative?
