Hardware :: Installing A HD On A Mac G4?

Jan 12, 2009

So, I don't often get a chance to work on a Mac machine so this is a little new to me. I've got a Quicksilver G4 (standard spec for that series, 800Mhz processor, stock MoBo, etc etc). Long story short, OSX decided to completely lock us out of the system, asking for a password that was never put in to anyone's knowledge.

User wants to retain information on that HDD so I thought I would just pop in another HDD and install OSX on it, using the locked out drive as a secondary slave.

The problem is that when the other drive is used as the primary/master, the graphics card seems to not work. Everything is spinning inside the machine itself but the screen is black as though the graphics card is blown. I thought maybe the card WAS blown, but when I swapped the drives (locked out HD as primary), everything works as it should and I'm brought back to the login screen.

Sidebar issue, I can't seem to boot from disk no matter which bay drive I use and what key combination I use.

Windows On Mac :: Installing Boot Camp Drivers Without Installing NVidia Driver?

Jul 28, 2009

I just finished up a fresh install of Windows 7 and downloaded and installed the NVidia driver from their site directly since the one in the Boot Camp files is pretty old and technically the Vista driver anyway.

But I still need the Brightness, Sound, etc key functionality. Is there a way to selectively install Boot Camp drivers? That's the only one I need. The wireless, chipset, video and everything else works just fine (and in some cases better) than the ones included in Apple's setup.

Applications :: Installing Win Via Parallels - Installing Bootcamp Then Parallels Or Just Parallels?

Dec 22, 2008

I was planning on installing Win7 on it and using Parallels for the times I have no Mac option (specific games or apps).

Should I install it as a boot camp partition and then link it in Parallels or just do a clean VM install in Parallels? I'm curious as to what the experiences are and what is my best course of action when my machine shows up.

OS X :: Installing On New Hdd?

Jul 2, 2009

Since its a uni-body(or whatever the heck its called) i need to take off the whole backing and i feel confident in myself to do so, it just i want to make sure that everything will work

I don't have any files to backup other then my music which fits on a sd card so transferring files isn't necessary. So when i get my mac can i just bust open the thing and replace the hard drive right away and install leopard or do i need to install leopard on it by connecting my new hard drive to the firewire port (through some adapter which i have in my house). or does the leopard disc that comes with my mac only work on the default hard drive?

OS X :: Mac Box Set For Installing 10.6 From 10.4.11?

Dec 21, 2009

What I'm wondering now is if it's worth it to go over 169 dollars to have to buy the Mac Box Set or if I should just go with the 29 dollar route, getting the bare install disc but maybe violating the EULA (it's possible to install it, and I don't believe there will be any rocky edges).

For Christmas I might just as well end up having the MBS. But I don't need iLife nor iWork. So what should I do with the two extra discs? I could very well install them on my family's iMac but it does run Tiger (and I dunno if they are compatible with 10.4 anyway) and we probably won't upgrade that one until way later.

OS X :: Installing Leopard Without A DVD Possible?

Oct 28, 2007

Is there any way to work around this problem:

I just bought the Leopard family pack for my Mac Pro and my 1 Ghz PowerBook 12". I loaded Leopard onto the Mac Pro with no problem--but when I tried to install it on the PB 12", I discovered that my PowerBook's DVD player has died. (There had been some indications of flakey behavior over the past few months, and none of the other DVDs I tried would work--they would just get ejected.)

My question is this: is there any other way to install Leopard onto my PB without using the DVD? I do have a working DVD player on the Mac Pro, as well as a myriad of hard drives and iPods that could be used in disk mode.

OS X :: Installing Windows 7

Jun 16, 2010

I'm unclear of how I should approach my Windows install, given my current situation, and I would rather be safe than sorry with these procedures...

Previously, I had installed a copy of Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro running 10.5, and used parallels to run the OS. Now, my parallels trial has run out and I would prefer to use Boot Camp (which I believe uses partitioning).

-How can I remove all of the files from my hard drive that are left from parallels and the old Win7 install without even being able to get into Parallels (due my lack of a serial number).

-What will the process of installing boot camp be like? Will I need an external HD to backup files during partition?

Windows On Mac :: Installing OS Via HD?

My macbook has been successfully partitioned with os 10.4.11 and Windows Xp. however, my XP no longer works and completely crashed. I don't have a cd drive, and my external cddrive does not get read at bootup. :/

Anyways, i was wondering if it is possible to install Windows through the hard drive itself. I mount the iso onto the partitioned windows drive, but i am completely confused on what to do next. How do i get the hd to boot the mounted iso, instead of looking to load windows... My current Error states: invalid Boot.ini... Ntdetect failed.

OS X :: Using And Installing Soundflower?

Dec 6, 2010

I couldn't figure out why my iMac had no sound and after checking the speakers, power, and cables I went to the System Prefs for Sound and found output set to Soundflower (2ch) rather than headphones.

Never had seen this before. I recently recorded something streaming with Snapz Pro X. That is the only thing I can think of that would have changed my sound. But even that was a while ago. Not sure what else I may have installed since then that would have done that. Possibly an Audio Hijack Pro update, but I never even use that.

What App typically installs Soundflower?

I have never even seen it before in my Sound settings. Certainly not on my MacBook and I'm in the settings all the time messing with Mic volumes and such for better iChats.

Mac Pro :: Installing RAM And Getting 256-bit Access

Jun 18, 2008

I understand that when installing ram in the new 2008 mac pro. You can achieve a slight increase in speed. By installing your modules in sets of four, of the same size. Does this mean that once I have my first set of four. That all additional sets of for have to be the same type of the first. Or can I mix and match sets of four. Will 4 1-gig chips, and a second set consisting of 4 2-gig chips. Still allow me to take advantage of the speed increase of 256-bit access.

OS X :: Installing Leopard Without A DVD?

Feb 10, 2009

i recently purchased an intel imac off craigslist. i want to do a fresh install of leopard on it (it already has leopard installed, i just want to get all the old info and programs off of it). the problem is that it didn't include any of the original discs. i know that technically i should buy a retail version of it but i don't feel morally obligated to since it already had leopard legally installed (flame if you must). i don't want to go to the time and effort to download a copy of the dvd from various unsavory sources so what i'm wondering is if it's possible to make a bootable partition on an external drive from one of my other macs then copy it onto the imac. and if so, how?

It should not have a problem, being that it is a certified copy of Microsoft Win XP sp2. Does that mean I have to have another version of OS X installed in order to use it? The 10.1 CD won't boot. I hold down option at boot, and it doesn't even show up. The Panther CD 1 gets me as far as the dreaded circle-slash. How on earth do I get OS X installed on this machine? I managed to get Linux installed on this machine without a hitch. Why is it so much harder to install a _native_ operating system?
