Applications :: Finding Browser With Bookmarks Sidebar
Jan 26, 2009
I've been stuck using FF cos I'm addicted to a Bookmarks Sidebar. Haven't found this in Safari, Opera or Camino. Anyone know if this feature exists via an add-in in a non FF browser? Looking for a faster browser than FF with this feature.

I want to be able to select multiple links in my bookmarks sidebar so I can organize certain bookmarks into a folder.
In windows I could just use the shift or ctrl keys to select multiple items. How does this feature work on a Mac?
UPDATE: How do you select multiple items in general?
I was able to organize my bookmarks through the "organize bookmarks" feature.

So I went out to update my web browser from Opera 9 to Opera 10 alpha. So I downloaded .dmg file and it said to copy it to applications folder so I did, then it asked me if I want to replace old version, I said yes and then i started my Opera and found all my bookmarks skins and settings gone. So I had to add my bookmarks again etc. Why? What could i do to save it but still get Opera 10?? This is really weird. I think that all bookmark settings and such were stored in Opera.app and now when I deleted it it's all gone.

After using Firefox and many others on the Mac, it's now my default browser. It's the only browser that's in the dock, actually. But I have a complaint about it.On a MacBook, the screen isn't wide enough for all of my bookmarks to show up in the bookmarks bar. The "bookmarks" menu in the bookmarks bar is hiding the last bookmark I have. How do I get rid of that? The top menu already has a bookmarks pull down menu.

I saw all the other threads asking about how to get rid of misc. computers in the shared section in the sidebar. I'm wondering why a computer won't show up and am asking for other ideas since I've exhausted my own. I'm working with a Mac Pro, a Macbook and a Mac mini. The Mac Pro can see everything else, and the Mac Mini can see eveything else, but the Macbook does not see the Mac Pro (even though it does see the Mac mini). I need the Mac Pro to show up on the Macbook.
Here's what I've done:
updated all 3 to 10.5.7.
Repaired permissions.
Turned off firewalls.
Renamed the Macbook (as they were both called "xxxxxx's Computer").
File sharing is on, on all computers.
Tried "connect to server" to see if it would reinitialize a search for new shared computers.

I'm looking to use a proxy or anonymization service with Opera. Jap and Tor are both quite slow.
What would some good alternatives be? I know I can google "proxy" and find something but typically those are just temporary, right?

I have been a long time mac user and my friend has just switched from a PC. She has tons of photos and has become very frustrated at how hard it is to move photos between events, (cutting and pasting being the best method I could tell her to use) in iPhoto. Before she arranged them as folders in the Windows explorer and it was easy to drag a photo from an open folder in the right hand of the explorer to a different folder in the vertical list on the left hand of the explorer. It got me wondering if anyone knows of a way, or a program, that will allow the events to all be viewed in a drop down in the left hand sidebar (perhaps like exposing all of your playlists in iTunes) of the iPhoto window, allowing you to open events in the main part of the window and simply drag photos to a different event on the left? I suggested just using the finder to organise them, but then editing becomes difficult.

How to add buttons back to the top. In Terminal type: Code: defaults write com.apple.iTunes full - window - boolean YES. To change back, use the same code, but trade YES for NO.
How to add color back to the icons:
1. Quit iTunes
2. Download the itunes10color.zip from here.
3. Right-click the iTunes icon and select "show in finder"
4. In Finder, right-click the iTunes icon again and select "Show package details"
5. Open "contents" and locate the "resources" folder.
6. Replace the file "iTunes.rsrc" with the one downloaded
Short version:
Replace /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunes.rsrc with the downloaded file
Both are confirmed to work on an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard

finding the bookmarks folder in Mac OS X 10.5.6. I had a friend who installed a program which I didn't want. When I went to delete the program, my MacBook Pro started to run slow and screwing up, more like locking up. I had to do a clean install of Mac OS X into my Mac. When I imported my files from Time Machine, I notice that is backup my whole hard drive, but I cannot find where the bookmark folder is located at. Where would I find the bookmark folder in the backup hard drive in Time Machine?

Is there a way to see bookmarks in a pdf in preview? bookmarks that weren't added by preview I mean? As far as I can tell there is not.. which is somewhat surprising. especially since they'll allow you to add your own. I mean that's what I would expect table of contents to be, but it doesn't show anything in my file even though in acrobat it has an extensive bookmarked table of contents. a follow-up question would be, is there any free pdf viewing software that is as snappy and responsive as preview (or close!) and will also display re-embedded bookmarks? because I have a lot of files I like to navigate that way.

I find it incredibly useful in Firefox but I'm training myself to really get used to using Safari as my main browser. On a personal note, I'm glad I have a shaved head because I would've pulled out all of my hairs by now, trying to find this online. Searched everywhere. On here, Apple Support forums, Google, YouTube, you name it.

How do I alphabetize my bookmarks? I've been wondering this for 2 years now, hoping I was overlooking something so simple but I'm done with it. I'm talking about bookmarks within a subfolder (e.g. Links, Tech, etc.) not the subfolders themselves. As it is now, my bookmarks are all jumbled up.

I know how to manually add my favorite pages to Top Sites already, and I know about the 'pin' icon in Edit mode. The thing is I want to use Top Sites like a bookmarks page because the UI is quicker to use (imo), but every time I add several sites to it and then restart Safari or browse for a little bit they just disappear or get replaced by some new pages. I made sure they were 'pinned' so they wouldn't go anywhere, but some of them still go away after I browse for a little while. Anybody know why?

I originally made most of my bookmarks through Safari; I then moved those bookmarks to FireFox, and subsequently added more bookmarks there (but all under Safari). There are no bookmarks under Firefox. When I open a bookmark from FireFox, I go to BOOKMARKS-->FROM SAFARI---> BOBS BOOKMARKS--->Folders/subfolders & titles of bookmarks. I would like to print out these bookmark links, how do I do it? Can't figure it out.
I don't want to migrate them to my new computer because it will just add more layers of complication. I want the new system without all these subfolders etc etc. If I can print them out I'll manually type them into my new browser bookmarks. Otherwise, since I have both old & new iMacs side by side & running, I'll look each up and do it that way.
