Applications :: What Kind Of Guitar Is The Garageband Guitar?
Mar 7, 2009
I've been trying to find out what kind of guitar it is.
I've seen that type of guitar out in the wild, but I could never remember out what type it was (the similar rounded shape) when I went to find out more info.
I admit I have never really touched a real guitar in my life (obviously a Rock Band guitar does not count). But since I just got my new 27" iMac, I came to the realization that learning guitar with GarageBand might actually be pretty interesting.
So, what is the minimum buying requirements in order to start learning guitar when you are starting with nothing (other than GarageBand itself, of course).
Here is what I think I need at a minimum, but I want to make sure: Acoustic Electric OR Electric guitar. A regular acoustic guitar won't work because it does not have a line output (is that correct?).
I have seen some acoustic electric guitars on eBay for less than $100. What do I need to make sure the Guitar comes with before buying? [By the way, I have my eye on one acoustic electric guitar that comes with an Active Pickup ... is active pickup necessary?] 1/4" to 1/8" adapater
Here are some extras that might be nice for better tone, but are not required: USB or Firewire Audio Interface. I think I have seen I can get one of these for $50-$100 A microphone to connect to the audio interface An amplifier
I was thinking of starting with the minimum requirements (assuming what I listed is the minimum) and if I decide I enjoy this, go for the extras I listed.
I've linked my guitar up to GarageBand and am trying to get a setting which sounds metal like, but at the same time sounds clear and i'm failing. It produces a good sound but its so full of noise its unbelievable.
The guitar has no noise when its on a setting which doesn't have distortion/fuzz or gain on it, but then i don't have a metal sound.
Does anyone have any idea how i can make such a setting?
I have an electric guitar plugged into the instrument input of an Apogee Duet recording interface.
If I add a "real instrument" track, then I can select the input channel in the "track info" pane in GB. Works fine, I can hear the guitar. But I can't access the various guitar effects and models.
To do that I create an "electric guitar" track instead. However, when I do that, I don't see any option to select the input channel in the track info pane.
And I don't hear any sound. Apple help just says I should "select the input channel in the track info pane" but I don't see it there, like it is for a "real instrument"...
I'm trying to record my guitar directly into Garageband or Audacity using my mac, it's running Tiger 10.4.8. Here's my setup, my electric guitar is connected to my amp and my amp is connected to an external sound card through the line in port which is then connected to the mac via usb.
I have set everything up as per different peoples instructions and i can record in Garageband, the problem is that there is a massive amount of excess noise, it's a like a massive roar when you try to record.
If i turn the input volume down really low it's not so bad but then you can't hear the guitar properly, if i turn it up you can hear the guitar but the roar makes it unrecordable. What should i do?
how do i plug my guitar into garage band, i mean once i plug my guitar in. how do i switch from my input source from built in microphone when that is the only option under input source?
I want to use my guitar hero controller with my mac to like play music not play games.I plan to use GamePad Companion, but I need a driver to make the guitar work. Right now I am looking at the driver called xbox 360 controllers" the only is that its not detecting my controller. If it matters I am running a ibook G41.33 GHz 1.25Gb OSx 10.5.8.
I'm trying to get my guitar from ps2 working on mac, but I can't make it works! I already bought an usb adapter compatible with Mac. The problem is not the adapter, is GH3 recognize the guitar.
I'd like to record some guitar tracks into this free trial version of Deck 3.5Le. I heard about the "imic" and wondered if that would be a good source to input my sounds.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to set up a little studio, i'd be happy to hear them.
I don't want to get too crazy, keeping it simple, on the cheaper side but I'd still like to get some good, decent recording.
I'm looking for advice on studio/multitrack software and usb audio line input devices and any other helpful
info. My mac is this: ibook 600 640MB 20G HD
OS 10.1.5(soon to be Jaguar in one week)
ps-i'm not really messin w/ the MIDI, just electric guitar, and acoustic/electric guitar and some bass guitar, maybe a drum machine (if my buddy lets me borrow it).
well i thought a macbook pro of 13-inches and im trying to plug my guitar through analog i already tried to go to system preferences>sound>input and used the audio pert for sound input the same with sound output but anithing happends i already have the adaptor.
I see these very expensive male to female adapters to plug in my guitar to, and then into my mac. Are these expensive ones really necessary or will a cheap $5 one from Radio Shack do?
I have a 2009 MacBook Laptop and run Mac OS X version 10.5.8. I also bought the Microsoft for Mac package (cost about $90) a while back because I was going back to school. So I basically use Microsoft Word as my word processor/document software. I play guitar and whenever I figure the chords out to a new song, I frequently create a new document where I paste the lyrics and then add the chords in the appropriate places. Then I can always pull up that song and play it. So its kinda like sheet music. Also, I'll point out that I'm not talking about tabbing a song,...which really means identifying individual notes that are picked. I always try and get the song on one page so I can play the entire song without having to scroll down half-way through. Even when I eliminate the margins, view the page full screen, etc....frustrated that SO much of the screen is being wasted. The actual words in the document in reality only take up a small portion of the screen...making it tough to read,...especially if I lose my place.
Any guitar players out there (or otherwise) know of any better applications or word processors that would allow me to maximize the amount of lyrics that would fit on the screen? Perhaps the solution lies in a different way of configuring or viewing Microsoft Word? Hopefully the question is clear enough. How to fit the most amount of text onto one page and then have that page take up the entire screen without wasted space. I'm thinking that no matter what suggestions I get, one good tactic would somehow involve creating columns or even putting two page side by side (neither of which I'm sure how to do).
I'm trying to plug my guitar into my MacBook Pro 13 inch mid 2012 model. It says the port can be used as an audio in as well as out but when I go to preferences, sound then try to look for the "Use audio for" tab it's not there. Although I probably will be buying a USB interface soon, I just want to know why this isn't working.
I really dont want to have to buy an external soundcard since the laptop is already very expensive. Taking away the line-in is stupid on the "Pro" range. On a "Macbook Air" fair enough. But not the Pro! Can the audio out be set to an audio in?
I´m planing to buy a macbook pro retina display, and I am wondering if I can connect my electric guitar to it since it doesn´t have an audio line in, only a headphone port?
So I'd like to do some home recording - nothing fancy at all, just the ability to lay down vocals, accoustic guitar, and hand drumming into either Garage Band or a more serious music editing program (I used to use Cool Edit Pro a while back).
I have no idea what mic to get, and what setup is necessary.
It seems that the easiest thing would be to have a USB mic, right? That way I don't need an interface between the mic and the computer? Or can a normal mic plug just fine into the line-in jack?
Just wondering if the majority of people use some kind of security software on their Mac's. Either antivirus software or just using the firewall. There is no need to debate viruses/trojans and all that stuff. Just wondering if people use some kind of security software of if you just use your computers as is out of the box. I don't use any security software at this point, I just have my firewall turned on. I'm wondering if I'm in the minority or majority.
On an external firewire 800 hard disk, I have a lot of photos, both in RAW (.nef) format and in "developed" JPG format.I would like to import my photos in iPhoto '08, but just the JPG and not the RAW.Unfortunately, if I select the directory where the photos are, iPhoto import both the JPG and the RAW There is a way to "filter" the import and to select just one kind of images (e.g. only .jpg) ?
