I cant seem to subscribe to any podcasts in itunes. all the subscribe buttons are greyed out. Im new to mac and this is the first time ive tried so maybe im doing something wrong. I have a mac mini with leopard and the latest version of itunes. I tried to log into the store but it asks for my credit card which i don't want to give.

I think the issue may have resulted from when my iPhone Podcast app was synced, but I've since turned off syncing across products.
I was just checking out podcasts in the iTunes store now and noticed that they are all grayed out, and that I can't subscribe to any.
I figure this has to do with the fact that I must have removed podcasts from my sidebar at some point.
So I go into preferences to find all of the checkboxes, but podcasts is greyed out there too Therefore I am unable to check it. The only other greyed out option is genius but I'm ok with that
Just migrated to a new iMac via migration assistant. All settings appear correct but as it attempts to download the latest episode of a podcast I subscribe to I get an error message stating "you do not have sufficient privileges."Is this "reauthorizing" the new computer?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got about 150 individual podcasts downloading and I've subscribed to about 20 , the problem is it's now stuck and won't let me "Pause all" or "resume all" on the download screen. I have a feeling if I shut it down the hard way I'll lose all those individual podcasts and podcast subscriptions that I entered, and it took me hours to figure out the ones I wanted. Is there a way to backup so it will resume all this on restart?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 4 TB Western Digital external hard drive that I use with my MacBook Pro, running Mavericks. When I plug it in, I get "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer", with the option of either ejecting or ignoring. So, I ignore it, and the drive is, in fact, both readable and writeable. So, this is a minor annoyance at worst, unless it truly does become unreadable.Â
I opened Disk Utility. The disk is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled), there's a single partition of the proper size, and both the disk and the partition show no errors when I run Verify Disk. The disk permissions buttons are both greyed out, and owners enabled shows "no".Â
This doesn't happen with other external hard drives I use. However, when I connect the other hard drives, they appear in Disk Utility immediately below my internal hard drive and above my SuperDrive, while the problematic external drive appears below the line that appears underneath SuperDrive.Â

I purchased a used Macbook Pro from ebay. Appeared to be in good working order when I first started working with it, but I have updated from OS X 10.9.2 to 10.9.5 and downloaded Open Office program, set up my mail and went through the system preferences and personalized it. Also ran disk utilities. Then, this AM, when I restarted, the header icons on the right side are grayed out except for the battery %, the date and time and notifications. Also, in mail and safari, the toolbar buttons are blank (forward, back, print, mail, bookmarks, autofil, history and downloads). I went to the disk utility from the recovery partition (repaired disk and disk permissions). I also reset parameters. Don't know what to do next. Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but I am assuming it is software (OS X) related at this point.Â

I started using my iMac today (not this gen the last gen) and it was fine yesterday but today it has been extremely slow. Its only a year old and now its suddenly taking 30 seconds to open up Finder and Mail and Chrome take a long time to start up. Also I noticed that the 3 buttons (red, orange, and green) at the top left of every window are grayed out.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI started iTunes this evening and as it opened a "thermometer"-type dialog appeared that said something about "converting" and "xml". (I didn't pay much attention as I was doing something else while it opened.) Once it opened, iTunes started going through all my music resetting volume. By this time I knew something was not normal. Then I noticed that, while my music appeared to be there, none of my Apps are, nor are any of the podcasts I had subscribed to. I had just synced my iPhone this a.m. with no discernible problem. I had deleted some duplicate episodes of one podcast (which are still in my trash), but that was the only thing that I had done out of the ordinary. Can anyone tell me:
1) What happened (and how do I prevent it from happening again)?
2) How do I get my apps and my podcasts back?
3) If I have to restore from my latest Time Machine backup (which is more than 10 days old, I'm afraid), how would I do that
I subscribe to various podcasts like NBC Nightly News, Geekbrief, etc. which have a daily show. I have podcasts setup to only keep the 3 newest episodes and auto delete the rest. Today however, I found a bunch of episodes dating back months which were never auto deleted but didn't show up in my podcasts menu. I had over 6 gigs of old episodes! I even still had the folder of episodes from podcasts I had long unsubscribed to and deleted from the podcasts window of iTunes. Does anyone know if this is an iTunes bug or am I doing something wrong?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I press sync in iTunes, it starts doing all sorts of things like backing up the ipod touch, downloading the applications which takes forever. Is there a way just to sync the podcasts? I have gone through all the various settings and deselected everything that might be causing this.
I don't know why many have used ml_ipod with winamp in the past but I had a good thing going. But unfortunately Apple seems to have broken the support with the latest firmware.
I recently upgraded to iTunes 9.1.1. After plugin in my iPhone I realized that some weird stuff was going on. I.E., iTunes asked me if I wanted to transfer all my iPhone purchases back to iTunes (I never buy iPhone Apps outside iTunes). After letting it SYNC again (iTunes copied all iPhone APPs back to iTunes) I noticed that my iTunes' podcast list was empty. Further investigation in showing me that files are there (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Podcasts) but they are not showing in iTunes. I get a screen offering to show me some podcast videos & tutorials).
So, my question is:
1. Is there a way to rebuild iTunes database to see if that fixes the issue?
2. If #1 is not possible. How can I import my podcast list back.
I am now dual booting with win7, and want to setup iTunes with win7. All my podcasts are on C drive and win7 is on D drive, just installed iTunes on D can I import my podcasts from the C drive some how?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got an iPod Touch (having used an iPod Classic for a few years), and noticed that for Enhanced Podcasts have, in addition to the images/links,the ability to skip between sections very easily without having to FF/Rew and hope for the best.
Is this functionality broken/no longer in itunes? I found an apple support article (URL) that says an icon should appear that lists all the sections, but it doesn't appear for me.
Using iTunes 9, everything up-to-date.
Is there a way to make iTunes delete the podcast file (audio or video) after I have listened or viewed it? I know i can go to settings in podcasts and adjust how many episodes to keep, but if I am unable to listen/view the podcast for a few days, it may exceeed the minimum. I want to keep the unplayed podcasts and delete them from my library once they have been played.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter I did a backup of my iTunes database on my PC and restored it on my new mac I have just discovered that I now have two Podcasts folders, one within the Music folder and another one within my Music:iTunes folder. As far as I can see all the podcasts inside the iTunes program is pointing to the files in the Music:Podcasts folder. Another strange thing is that all the podcast files I have is found in the Music:Podcasts folder but in the Music:iTunes:Podcasts folder only a part of my podcasts are found. Since I'm still new on a Mac I'm a little confused about this . Could any of you please tell me what the default position of the Podcasts folder is in Mac OS?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm subscribed to about 10 differet podcasts, and I just realised that there hasn't been a new episode of any of them in a while. I right clicked them all in turn, and chose Update Podcast, and lo and behold, a whole slew of episodes started downloading. For some of them there are even more than 1 episode that hasn't downloaded. Can anyone tell me why iTunes doesn't automatically download new episodes of these subscribed podcasts? iTunes is set to check everyday for new episodes, but simply seems to have not bothered! This has happened a few times before too.
EDIT - From iTunes saying that there are no new episodes of any of my subscribed to podcasts, I've ended up with 20 downloads after manually checking.
I can't find the option in iTunes, and I've searched this in the forums and surprisingly, no one else has asked the question yet, but is it possible to play podcasts at 2X speed through iTunes, or is it only possible to do that on my touch? Thanks for any help.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn order to select which podcasts should be synced to the iPhone/iPod, one has to select the desired podcast subscription from the Devices/Podcast/Sync_Podcasts list. However, the podcast list in the Devices/Podcast/ page now only displays podcast subscriptions if it has episodes already downloaded. One cannot include podcast subscriptions if that podcast subscription currently has no downloaded episodes. This is annoying.
Worst still, previously selected podcast subscriptions that have no more episodes will no longer be selected anymore even if it downloads episodes later. Therefore, one has to keep going back to the list and selecting the podcast subscription over and over again.
I used to watch streaming video podcasts in iTunes and they would popup in a separate quicktime-type window. Since a recent update streaming podcasts appear in a non-adjustable window over iTunes and I am no longer able to select which portion of the podcast I would like to view. This is irritating.
I've looked through the settings and can't find anything that fixes this.
This is 10.6.2 on a Macbook Pro (Spring 2009?), with iTunes 9.
How to add buttons back to the top. In Terminal type: Code: defaults write com.apple.iTunes full - window - boolean YES. To change back, use the same code, but trade YES for NO.
How to add color back to the icons:
1. Quit iTunes
2. Download the itunes10color.zip from here.
3. Right-click the iTunes icon and select "show in finder"
4. In Finder, right-click the iTunes icon again and select "Show package details"
5. Open "contents" and locate the "resources" folder.
6. Replace the file "iTunes.rsrc" with the one downloaded
Short version:
Replace /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunes.rsrc with the downloaded file
Both are confirmed to work on an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard
Is there any function or app out there that will enable me to follow posts? For example, a question that i may have asked a year ago but want to continue following up on in case there is a reply? I have about 20 threads on this forum bookmarked and would like an easier way to keep up with them. I've only seen the availability to check a main page or subforum..but it seems like there should be something else available.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can boot into bootcamp with no problems. I have been wanting to be able to open the bootcamp in Parallels. Here is the issue:
1. The partition 'disk0s3' is greyed out in Disk Utility. It is not mounted. Mounting does nothing.
2. For reference, the Windows 7 is formatted as NTFS. It is a Windows 7 64-bit install
3. Verify disk does the following:
Verifying volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3
Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
4. repairing does the following:
Verify and Repair volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3
Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can"t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
I have stuff on the Windows partition that I don't want deleted. I'm really stuck on this -obviously, I can just continue to boot into bootcamp, I just would rather open it from Parallels. I'm not sure what or if I made some mistake in setting up Bootcamp, I thought I followed the directions to that. I do know I formatted the partition as NTFS during the install - as I think Windows 7 requires it. I have tried installing NTFS-3G - it is installed, but didn't do any good when trying to mount the drive.
Unable to close Safari at the drop down menu because Quit Safari is greyed out. When I right click on the icon in the tray and click on Quit, nothing happens. Therefore, I cannot restart or shut down this computer.

I can't get my NPR podcasts to update, although I have subscribed for years. If I hit Refresh, nothing happens. If I go to the Store and subscribe, nothing happens, although I can subscribe to other podcasts.

Something is blocking my computer from downloading podcasts. I have NetBarrier and Little Snitch installed but disabling both of them didn't help. When I try to download a podcast in iTunes, I get an exclamation point next to the podcast and nothing downloads. I tried this with several podcasts and none will download. I can download the podcasts onto my iPad so the problem is with something on my MacBook that is blocking iTunes podcasts. The App Store is working fine in iTunes and I could download apps to the MacBook. The problem seems to be only with the podcasts. I'm using the latest versions of Lion and iTunes. I checked the link to my iTunes library (on a separate partition) and that is working fine.
