I'm an American moving to Europe in a few months, and I have tons of DVDs that will no longer be playable. I have an external hard drive I'd like to rip them to so that I can watch there. Can anyone recommend good software to rip a lot of dvds with that I can store?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can click on the album artwork in iTunes (8.0.2) and it will display the larger version of an album cover, but I can't right click and copy it, or display the actual file in the finder. Sometimes I want to copy the artwork for an email, forum, etc. and don't want to always use Grab to make a screenshot. Where are the album files stored on my Mac?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy do they store files in that library package and not in Finder?? This really drives me crazy and I feel like there has to be some sort of benefit that I'm not seeing. It looks like in Aperture I can choose to import photos to folders that are outside of the Library but you still have to manually choose where etc. It seems like in a perfect world, the files would show up exactly as the do in iPhoto, organized in folder by the Events that they reside in. And I can't even ctrl-click a picture in Aperture and say "Show in Finder" or anything! The reason I'm trying to do this is so that I can upload pictures to Facebook, as the Facebook uploader built into both Apps are extremely limited.

I'm about to buy a new Macbook and I was wondering how people stored their files. For example, I have all my music on my iMac - do people normally share music and photos between their computers?
I'm thinking that having two computers can be quite frustrating if some of the files are on a desktop and you're out and about with a laptop.
I don't want to have all my data spread across two machines - I think this might be confusing!

I wanted to store files on a Time Capsule that is also a Time Machine target. Problem is that Time Machine eats up all the space with time.
Common workarounds are: a second USB drive attached to TC or open TC and re-partition the internal drive.
As a dirty hack, I created a disk image on TC's hard-disk and I mount it via an AppleScript. The concept is the same as Loopback devices in Linux or Solaris except for the fact that disk files cannot be shared among multiple users at the same time.
When I ran TIME MACHINE for the first time, it reformatted my external hard drive. TIME MACHINE then backed up my system. Is it possible for me to store misc other files and what not on the same drive as the TIME MACHINE back up? Also, will these files be accessible from a PC also? I want to make sure I am not going to corrupt anything before trying this.

i've got macbook with itunes and a NAS server with my music library.
i imported all the music files from the NAS to my iTunes on my MacBook. it's okey.
but, next time a launch the iTunes its mark all my music files in the library as broken or unavailable. so i cannot sync it with iphone or other i*-devices.
so i have to double-click on each song to force iTunes recheck the location of a music file. i cannot store my music on my macBook because i don't have enough free space for it.

My question is pretty simple. Can I store virtual machine files on an external disk? I use Parallels 5 and have an Intel X 25 160 SSD and to conserve space I was wondering if I can move the virtual machine file out of Users/Me/Documents/Parallels folder to an external disk and load it from there?

I have a macbook and an iMac, I am using a Time Capsule to store files that I may want to access on both (within the home). I have put all my iTunes on it as a 80g HD is not enough on a macbook for all the songs, vids, etc. It worked when a wired HD was with the iMac but now its wireless iTunes seems to forget some of the songs. Not all of them just some of them. It happens when I Sync my iPhone with the Macbook. The capsule has been on the whole time and I just leave it on all the time so its on before the macbook or imac. When I click "get info" the file path is the same as what I would manually enter, so why cant they be found?

I never really bothered using Word even though I know its spell checking and grammar are far superior to Pages because of the price of Office. I would buy Word from the Mac App Store if Microsoft offered it separate from the other apps. I'm sure some people would buy Outlook too instead of paying $279 just to get Outlook. I mean I bet a lot of people who buy Office only use a few programs right?
