OS X :: Ssh Login From Mac To Linux System Extremely Slow

Dec 16, 2009

ssh login from my 10.6.2 mac to a linux system is extremely slow -- about a minute to get the login prompts. In comparison, ssh login to the same linux machine from putty.exe on Windows XP is almost instantaneous. I have tried adjusting the parameters on both client and host, without much improvement. However, the "1" protocol level seems a little faster. I have setup the keys ("2" level), and that works (without need for pasword), but is still very slow.

I installed putty from macports onto the mac. I got it to work using the "1" protocol level, but it is just as slow as from the terminal command line. All of the above tests were done on a local network with addresses like 192.168.0.102, so I don't think DNS is a factor.

IMac :: Slow Wireless N Site Lookup For New IMac And Linksys WRT610N Router?

Aug 12, 2008

I had a DLink DIR-655 Wireless N router and my wireless was running very fast, 9.7MB using [URL] with no lag looking up sites. I had to upgrade the router since I was hosting a site and the router wasn't working properly for that.

So, I bought a Linksys WRT610N Dual Band router. I have the iMac running on the 5GHz band and it runs around the same speed.

HOWEVER, when I open Safari or Firefox, in the status bar, it says "looking up google.ca..." or whatever site I'm browsing for and can take up to 5-10 seconds before it starts to display the site. When it is on the site, browsing around is fast as long as it doesn't change domains.

ANOTHER HITCH, I have VMWare's Fusion installed on the iMac and Vista installed there and there is no lag to browsing a site. When I type in the site, it immediately goes to the site and I am able to browse fine.
Any thoughts on this?

IMac :: Aluminium IMac Running Slow On One Account

Jun 24, 2010

I have an aluminium iMac, 2.4GHz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM, running Leopard. On one account, it runs slowly, with a noticeable delay in doing anything, even menus take a second do to anything once they've been clicked. It has all the updates installed and I've tried repairing the permissions and rebooting already.

Since I've only noticed it on one account, I'm inclined to think it's a corrupted user file or something.

IMac :: Booting - Cannot Get To Login Screen

Sep 6, 2009

When I turned my iMac on this morning (iMac G5 PPC 10.5.8) it went through all of the "normal" steps (gong, grey screen, apple logo, progress wheel, blue screen) and stopped at the blue screen. Thinking it was just a fluke, I shut the machine down and restarted, only to have it stop at the blue screen again.

After disconnecting everything going into the iMac except the keyboard and mouse, I attempted to boot into safe mode but it stopped at the blue screen again. I tried single user mode too but I didn't get any further than the blue screen.

Next, I flashed the PRAM (big gong, single quieter gong) and afterwards it came to the blue screen.

I reattached my external drive and selected to boot from a 2-day old backup. Using the backup I was able to log into both my regular account and my "test" account (without login items).

OS X :: IMac Login/Keyboard Malfunction?

Oct 6, 2009

I have a Mac OS X (silver iMac) and starting this morning it will not let me login to my account, which is the single and only account, and the admin. I shut it down last night as usual, and it did so just fine, and it boots up the same as well.

My keyboard, however, is screwing up. Buttons like the "return", "shift" and "control" apparently count as characters, and since my password is a series of dots I can't tell how it's malfunctioning. I can't login at all.

I've tried restarting the computer several times, unplugging it and replugging it, and changing which USB port the keyboard was plugged into. I've also tried typing one key over, on both sides, just to see if it would work. I have no idea what's wrong here - does my computer have some sort of virus? Or is it my keyboard? Is there any way I can reset my computer, or just manage to login? I'm really stressed out here, and willing to listen to anything.

IMac :: How To Change Login Text

Jul 26, 2010

I am new to apple, just purchased an iMac off craigslist, and have a personalization question. I was able to change the user name and all that info just fine but when my computer first turns on and I am prompted to log in the previous owner has a text below the apple icon that I would like to change. Right now it says "Daves ********** iMac" well my name is not Dave and I don't care to have that on there every time i go to log in. I have done a lot of searching and found where I can "change login text" but that is for one of the texts, not the one I am trying to figure out.. here is a sample picture, the text I have circled in red is the text I am trying to change, the text saying macbook pro is the only text I have successfully changed. (This is just a picture I got off the inter-web, not my actual login)

Entries can be made in the Username and Password fields, but there is no response to "return" or "cmd" keys. The action buttons (sleep, login, etc.) are grayed out. Power button only puts machine to sleep, and it wakes up at frozen login screen.

OS X Yosemite :: Automatically Login To IMac Without Password

Dec 5, 2014

Recently brought iMac in for software upgrade. now 10.10.1

After i got home, i realized that the iMac now always asks me to login with my password (which i do). But i would prefer not to have to login/put in password every time. just want my iMac to open as it always had.

I assume i go to system preferences/users & groups. i see i am the current user/administrator. When i click "change password" it says: "*** is using an iCloud password to log in and unlock the screen.

do you want to change your iCloud password or stop using your iCloud password to unlock this mac AND CREATE A SEPARATE PASSWORD?"

Don't want separate or any passwords. Do i just want to click the "change iCloud password" button? Ijust want to log in without a password. How do i do that?

IMac :: Pixelated Screen At Login And Kernel Panics

Oct 14, 2010

Got the iMac 27" Late 2009 (bought it when it came out). Its always had the 'pixelated' issue (see attachment) just before the login screen appears but I've never bothered too much as its not been a problem, until recently where I am getting a lot of 'Kernel Panics' (screen wipes down and locks done entirely, have to restart to get the system up and running again). I am starting to think that the screen issue is finally starting to shows its true colours. Yes, I've done the PRAM resets, disk repairs, up-to-date with all the software etc. No joy.

IMac :: After Re-booting / User Name Has Disappeared From Login Window?

Dec 13, 2010

Ok so today my 27" iMac (10.6.2) was acting kind of weird. In safari and chrome webpages would spontaniously crash for no reason (on my macbook, the same webpages were fine). So, to try and fix this issue, I decided to restart my imac. After all the applications quit, I was left with a blank screen with my wallpaper. It stayed like this for several minutes, so I decided to just hold the power button to force the imac to turn off. When I turned it back on, my user name was not displayed in the login window. All there was for accounts was "other" and a network symbol. When I click other and entered my user name and password, it did not work. I am sure I was using the correct password and username. I also tried: username: root, but that also did not work. So i rebooted again and the same "other" still was there without my real account. So i booted into my Mac OS X install dvd and I repaired the disk and all the permissions (there were a lot of things to repair). I thought that this would solve the problem, but it did not.

I've just done an install of lion from snow leopard on my IMac. Now when I reboot, I just get the grey brushed aluminum background and apple logo slightly higher than centre and a black arrow cursor. No desktop, no login options, nothing else whatsoever appears on the screen. I've tried resetting the pram, and to access the lion recovery mode (command r on boot up) but this does not even appear. All I can get is the same empty screen and arrow cursor.

IMac (Intel) :: Mavericks Freezes At Login Screen?

Jun 2, 2014

My iMac started freezing at the login screen. I power up, the apple logo comes up (sometimes the blinking globe comes up for some reason) and then the apple logo flashes as if it restarted or something, and the loading indicator shows up for a few seconds. Then at the login screen everything looks normal (my picture is there and correct name of account is shown) when I type the incorrect password, the text box shakes appropriately. When I type the correct password, the loading indicator appears, the mouse turns into a beach ball, and it hangs until I hard shutdown.

I know it's not a hardware issue because I just booted from the recovery partition and was able to view all my files in terminal. I would rather not reformat the hard drive. Is there a specific file that may be corrupted that I could delete and mavericks would automatically rebuild it?

PowerPC :: Set IMac G3 (Blueberry) To Stop Automatic Login At Start Up?

Jun 19, 2008

A couple of nights ago I set my iMac G3 (Blueberry) to stop automatic login at start up and put it to sleep. I did this because I didn't want my kids on the web in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. When morning comes, the computer is off. I try to start it but it won't turn over. When I push the on button, the button flashes on for a split second and I hear the crackle of static as if the computer is starting, but nothing happens after that. I tried plugging and unplugging the computer, but nothing helps.

It's like a car that won't turn over.

I checked the Console immediately after it allows me to, and theres a bunch of stuff on the IOkit that seems to be the culprit.
