ITunes For Mac :: Using Sound With Airplay - No Speaker Icon On Drop Down List
Dec 7, 2014
When using airplay to watch a game from my computer to the TV, how can I use the TV speakers? We have to listen to the sound from my iMac while using airplay. There is no speaker icon on my airplay drop down list.Â

How can I add and delete options from the genre drop down list? I want to customize my genre list so it only contains genres I want to use. How can I delete the ones I don't want and add the ones I want?Â

I have a 2.1 Logitech Z4 setup, and the sound is only coming out of the left speaker. I have checked the wires, they are fine, and both speakers do work - but it could be the socket that's the problem. It's plugged into the line-in socket, I have put the output in System Preferences to Headphones, and everything is inserted correctly.
What do I do?
EDIT: My sound system is plugged into the headphones jack. I have tried putting headphones into the headphone jack and the sound also only comes out of the left earbud.

I have a macbook pro and iphone4, so I bought a Denon Ceol RCD N-7 that supports airplay. The system requires, that I upgrade the software on the receiver, which I have done. And I can confirm on the receiver, that I have installed the airplay on the unit. When I go to iTunes on the macbook pro, then I get the option to use the Denon Ceol as speakers for iTunes, so the airplay should work. However neither the macbook or the iphone can connect to the unit, meaning there is not any sound coming out of the receiver or any indication on the receiver, that it is connecting to the airplay.I have also checked for the receiver to be able to connect to the same wireless network as the iphone and macbook - which it does. And the internet radio is working on the receiver, so the internet connection is fine.iTunes is 10.5.1, so that is also fine. How can I indentify the problem or do any of you know how to fix the problem?

On my laptop, the Airplay refuses to ave sound. First it was just with some web content, now it's all sound.Â
Menu Bar -> Airplay -> Mirroring On
Result:Â Flawless video, no sound.Â
System Preferences -> Sound -> Output -> Apple TV
Result: Selection pops to the last item, Airplay stops displaying on TV. (Airplay on the mac thinks it's still working, but the Apple TV stops displaying.)Â
Rebooting doesn't work, pretty much nothing seems to have an effect.Â
Macbook Air
OS X 10.8.5 (all updates)
Firewall disabled
AirParrot installed but not active (has same issue, though)Â
Apple TV (all updates)
iOS devices work fine with the Apple TVÂ
Video works fine. Just audio fails.

I woke up this morning and tried to watch a linked video on a webpage. I saw the video, but there was no sound (this had not been a problem the evening before). I am using USB soundsticks, so I checked to make sure that they were plugged in, and they were. I opened iTunes and sound came through the Soundsticks; I switched to the internal speaker and it worked there as well. When I tried the same with another embedded video, however, I only got sound from the internal speaker.
Has anyone had a similar problem or does anyone know how to fix this?

I looked on the before and still ahven't found anything on it, so I guess I'll just ask.Â
I've been wanting to use Safari 5 as my familys default browser for sometime but the one thing that seems to bug my mother and others is how Safari handles autofill <--- don't know if that's right.Â
You see they like how in Chrome you just click on an empty text filed and anything that has been typed there before will just pop up on a drop down list under the text filed box it's self with they're options.Â
I just wanted to know if there might be an extention that gives Safari this feature?

I was wondering if there was any way to troubleshoot the sound error from my home or will it need to be taken in for service? Is it the same price at Best Buy as it is the Apple Store?

Macbook Pro 13' (late 2011, I think) and its operating system. I am having problem with the speakers. I had no trouble with it when I bought in December 2011, even when I updated the OS 10.7.4. But when I upgraded its RAM from 4gig to 8, that was when trouble started. Everytime I boot, the speaker icon is visible at the start, but when the wifi and battery icons appear, the speaker icon greys out. No sound come out from the speakers. When I checked the speaker section in the System Preference, the buttons are also greyed out.

I am heading a strange sound from my speaker, sounds like an application is causing it. I check the logs and I dont see any errors. a good method of tracking down the error? Is there a log file for system sounds or do I have to kill each application one by one and wait 2-3 mins between application kills to see if the sound comes back.

today I noticed that my speakers have a buzz/hum sound coming from them. The speakers I have are the Logitech X-240 with a subwoofer. The speakers are hooked up to the subwoofer, which is hooked up to a sound base that is connected to my MacBook.

My sound works fine at first, then I plug in my headphones and sound still works but when I pull out my headphones I lose sound in headphones and speakers on my 13" MacBook Pro. Only a reboot (as far as I know) fixes it.

I have a creative 5.1 speaker setup and just recently found my old sound blaster external card from my PC from years ago. I went on the creative website to try and download drivers for it and their weren't any (surprise, surprise). So I've been trying to figure out how to use my speaker setup so I can watch movies from iTunes in 5.1 surround sound. When I plug in the card through USB the sound tab in the system preferences reads it as the SB Live! card (which it is).
Then when I go to the Audio MIDI Setup, it also reads the card and the speakers I have connected to it. When I go the configure speakers tab, it shows them and all when I click on them to test them, it shoots out noise through each speaker. But when I go back to iTunes and enable surround sound in a movie, nothing happens. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there any software I can download so I can use my speakers?

For the last two weeks I have been using my new macbook pro. I'm a bit concerned about the sound quality that i get from the speakers. According to specs it has a subwoofer (I know you can't expect much from a tiny laptop) but I still can't really hear any base/low frequencies and it sounds like a tiny cheap transistor radio . The volume is pretty high, I can listen to youtube etc, but its really almost only trebble. I expected a bit more. Is it normal for those macs or is it just mine?
I had Sony Vaio before and then Dell XPS 1530. Sony had way better speakers and even Dell seems to sound a bit less can-like/tiny...

Whenever my MacBook's sound is on mute and the computer wants to play a sound, the speaker has this little click noise.
For example, I mute the sound and go to trash a file. It trashes normally, but at the beginning, the speakers click (almost like they want to play that empty trash noise, but cannot because it is mute).

Since updating the Windows 7 drivers with the Snow Leopard BootCamp version 3 I've noticed strange sound distortions coming from the left speaker of my iMac. This seems to be a driver issue because both under OSX as well with older drivers which came with Windows 7 RC1 the left speaker functions properly.

Over the past few months or so, I've been noticing a sound, much like a buzzing, coming from the left speaker area of my computer. It seems to be near the area where I plug in the charger. The sound is not terribly loud, but when it's quiet in my surroundings, it becomes quite evident. I'm not talking about an audio-related issue, but I am just unsure as to what may be causing the sounds and whether or not I should be worried.

I just purchased a Bose SoundLink Mini bluetooth speaker. It pairs up and connects fine with both my iPad Mini and Macbook Pro. The sound quality is excellent on playback from iTunes on the iPad Mini, however when I connect with the Macbook Pro....I am getting terrible popping and cracking sounds. I am using Lion 10.7.5 on the Macbook Pro. Wondering if it must be some issue with the operating system since I DON'T have the problem when I play audio from the iPad Mini.

Peculiar problem. My sound suddenly switched to being internal speaker only, even though I have decklink HD Extreme card and was using it as my audio output the night before. Narrowed the problem down to anything being plugged in to the firewire ports - FW400 and FW800 ports and drives or even my Mini DV deck. When I plug anything into the firewire ports, trying to get to the sound settings in system preferences hangs, and all sound will only work on the internal speaker. This is a sudden problem and leaves me only being able to plug in esata external hard drives. There is some sort of conflict going on somewhere.
Mac Pro 2008
Mac Osx 10.5.8
Decklink HD Extreme card
Recently installed LaCie eSATA II PCI Express Card.
Use the machine mostly for video editing, so really need the external HDs.

I have been having this issue forever and want to do something about it now. Whenever the sound is mute on my notebook, and there should be sound playing (Ex.: Startup Chime), instead I get a LOUD pop noise. I understand the whole thing with the sound chip powering down to save battery life, but that requires the speakers to be un-muted. In my case, they are mute, and never get un-muted. What do you guys think. Logic Board/Speaker System Replacement?

I'm going to buy my parents some speakers to go with their new iMac this christmas. I've introduced them to iTunes and they are learning how to buy music, but naturally the internal speakers aren't very good (although they are better than I thought they would be). I'm looking for 2.0 or 2.1 setups, preferably something with a sleek, minimalistic, industrial design (and decent sound quality). Price range is $<100.
Here are some I'm looking at:

Logitech Z320. Bose Companion 2 [URL]
