May 11, 2009Im a little confused with the way itunes organizes songs. Last night I added some of my cds to itunes and I got a little confused after trying to find my songs and not being on one spot which is what I was expecting to see or at least separated by album.
Where does itunes places downloaded songs from a CD? How can I organize my songs (after uploaded) by Artist and Album? Can I create a playlist for each Artist is this the right way to do it? Can someone show me the way the music should be organized in itunes? Can someone explain how itunes organizes songs by default or direct me to where I can get the right information?

Sep 29, 2008I'm having problems accessing my music in iTunes. I've been into preferences and pointed to the folder where the music is stored, (it's stored on a separate hard drive) but without success. I've copied the songs back to the original folder, but that doesn't work. Been on other forums and on the net but no progress.

Jun 28, 2012I just upgraded my computer ( new HD and memory) and i am trying to transfer new music from my macbook to my iphone 3g (running 5.1.1) when I initially opened iTunes it had me upgrade to 10.6.3, now I am unable to drag and drop music onto my iphone like I used to. I have checked manually manage music and videos but when I attempt to apply it, I get the message > The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.As I have just installed a new hard drive and didn't want to transfer over my old info, my drive is empty, if I sync with the contents of my iTunes library, it will erase my phone completely as the HD is new and EMPTY.Is there anyway around this? I used to be able to drag and drop my music from my hard-rive or even straight from iTunes and now nothing happens at all. I'm not sure where the change was made, but is there a way to fix it or get around it? I am also unable to delete songs from my iphone using itunes.

Jun 3, 2014around 100 of my songs wont transfer because it says that the purchases are not authorised for this computer or account or something like that. Yet the others transferred no problems and they are from the old account as well. What do i do? or is there and easier way to trasfer my music onto my new itunes account so that i get all my music?

Oct 24, 2010For a long time, I used my e-mail address as my Apple ID. It has my music and all that other stuff associated on it. I bought MobileMe and now have the @me.com e-mail address, which has an AppleID as that e-mail address. Trying to change the old AppleID to the new e-mail address (ie. entering the new e-mail address in the Change AppleID box of the old account.) results in it telling me that that ID is already in use (by me, obviously). How can I merge the IDs, or somehow move my iTunes music to the new AppleID?

Jan 6, 2011I have 100gigs of music so I successfully transferred my iTunes media to an external hard drive, and identified this new location within iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/Location. Everything worked great until I had to shut down and start up.
Now, it no longer recognizes the media library. When I try to play a track in iTunes, iTunes says the original file could not be found. It prompts me to locate this one track, which I do, and that one track will play. All of the other tracks have the (!) sign next to them in my iTunes library.
I have double checked the settings in my iTunes preferences, everything appears to be configured as when I first made the successful transfer (identifying the external hard drive as the location).
I've made sure to restart once the external hard drive is connected.

May 21, 2012The selection of music from iTunes Music Library, is not working in iPhoto Slideshow, in my Mac Book Air. However, it works nicely in my main IMac.
The Slideshow at the Mac Book Air works only with the pre existent sources "Sample Music" and "Theme Music". The remaining library is visible on the sourcing list, but when I select any musics, they do not pop up in the window below.

Oct 20, 2008I've only recently added release years to all my albums and now I sort by album by year, which is great. However, I'd like to make some smart playlists based on decades, and this is a problem for anything on some sort of anthology or greatest hits collection. For example, the Barenaked Ladies greatest hits CD was released in 2001.
If I tag the whole album as 2001, it sorts correctly, but the individual tracks from the 90's won't show up in the 90's smart playlist. The other option I can think of is to tag each individual track with the correct year, but then the album stops appearing in the right place chronologically within the BNL albums, since iTunes no longer knows it was released in 2001.
So my question is this: is there some way to do a sort of "Sort Year" or "Album Year" similar to "Sort Artist" or "Album Year"?
And while I'm at it, I'm sure there's no way, but it seems like it'd be cool to somehow tie a track to two different albums. Previously, if I had a greatest hits and some original albums, I would erase any duplicates from the greatest hits and only keep them on the original album. However, since the release of iTunes 8 I use a more album-based approach to my music. I use grid view with shuffle off by default, and often just click "Play Album". But if I do that for a greatest hits comp, it of course won't play the tracks that I've deleted from it. So I have to keep two copies of the same recording for two different albums. It'd be cool if there was some way to tie one track to both albums to avoid dupes. But again, I'm pretty sure this'll never happen.
ITunes :: Using Itunes To Play Music From External Drive / Playlists Show No Music File
Aug 6, 2010...now I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.
I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.
Software :: Transferring Files From Lacie To Pc / Itunes Unable To Find Music Files?
Aug 15, 2009I have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.
The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?
I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldn�t be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didn�t want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to �look for� every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I don�t know if I was able to make my question really clear�

I have now wanted to access the music on the external HD, and have attempted to select the new music file location on the external HD via the itunes/preferences/advanced window,selected the new file path and it will just not show in itunes!

Sep 25, 2010I finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S.
How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.

Aug 18, 2010I'm new here and about to dip my toe into the Apple pond for the first time. Just placed an order for an i Phone and am preparing my music collection to move at least some of it over to i Tunes for use with the new phone. I currently have it on an external HD in one main folder (CD Collection) and have been using WMP up to now. Stored under that main folder are sub-folders with album titles containing the individual song files in .wav format. I tried to import the files into the i Tunes library by going to FILE and clicking on ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY. I then selected all the album folders and hit enter. It imported them all into one folder. I have around 450 albums. This is not what I had in mind. I had hoped the folder and file organization would have been maintained. Instead I have thousands of music files in one "album."
