I just downloaded the iTunes 10.6 update and now my iTunes will not open. The icon in my dock will jump a few times, as if the program were opening, but then nothing happens.

I downloaded the update for iTunes but I can't load it because it tells me to close the iTunes program. The only thing I tried to do was the install. I din't have iTunes open, but when I try to install it opens it. Also won't respond to trying to find out which version i have ot any other info . I had to close it buy using the atctivity monitor and forcing it closed. I just upgraded to lion the other day and have been trying to get this set up to work with the cloud which it did.

I launched Mail as I ordinarily do. It opened up, but the header bar was grayed out. Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). Everything was fine until I ran a software update about a week ago for itunes 9.1 safari 3.4 a security update and a java update. I will say that safari could not be properly updated. I read on anopther forum where another person had a similar issue. They said that it may be because of the order of updated apps. You see, the security update ran, then the itunes then safari. This person said the security update may have prohibited Safari from operating successfully and in turn affecting Itunes. What do I do? Im very new to Mac's.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a mail attachement with the extension .gem, and I would like to use that attachment as the argument to a java .jar program. I've figured out how to start the java program using a shell script like this:

If I name this script program.sh and change the permissions to allow execution, I can successfully run the program by typing this in a terminal window:
./program.sh filename.gem
However, when I try to open the attachement filename.gem from mail, it won't let me use program.sh to open the attachment. The OS seems to make a distinction between a file and an application that is independent of the execute permission on the file. After doing some reading about this, I tried Automator. One of the Automator actions is to execute a shell script, so I added that action to my Automator project and typed in my command:
java -jar /Users/geoff/Programs/program.jar $1
I also changed to input from options from "stdin" to "argument". I then saved the Automator project, and was able to associate that project with the .gem file attachment from mail. The java program started, but behaved as if the $1 argument was not included. (Perhaps I just need to leave out the "$1" in my Automator command, trusting Automator to insert the argument in the proper place. If that theory is correct, my program is interpreting the text "$1" as an argument, which would be consistent with the behavior that I'm seeing.) I've seen other suggestions to use AppleScript, but it seems to me that there ought to be some simple way to do this. (I just got a Mac, by the way. I was able to do this in Windows using MIME type definitions and a .bat file. The difference is that Windows allowed me to consider program.bat as an executable, but Mac OS doesn't consider program.sh to be an executable.)

I've tried several, and I've followed several different guides on how to do this, and yet it always tells me that the port is closed. Now, I know Mac has like infinitely better security than Windows does, but does it also mean that all the ports are going to be closed all the time? I have no idea, so I thought I'd ask here. It's a Netgear router, and I've followed a specific guide on it via. I've allowed the program to go through the Firewall too.

I made the code below to use together with another 2 codes. One that mounts a samba share and another that runs rsync with specific parameters. The script below runs after rsync complete its task.
The 3 codes me to test my HTML/CSS/PHP/Javascript code changes.This code works but I have to repeat it to each browser/app I want and a 10 lines script becomes 40 lines (Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari). Is there a more elegant way to do that? I've tried to use an array/list but didn't work.

Anyway, it is showing that the finder is always active. You can see as it has that black dot under it in the dock. I can open new finder windows and also open google chrome, but the odd thing is, I can't open certain programs. Chrome and finder and system preferences will open, but I can't open the terminal, mail, safari, app store, Preview and other apple programs. I can't even open "about this mac" when I click on the apple icon. When I click on a program in the dock, it shows the icon bounce and there is a blink on the screen, but the program never opens.
This is pretty much rendering my computer useless. I already fixed disk permissions. I tried to remove the com.apple.finder.plist file, but I can't find it. The library folder is under my HD and not under my user name. I'm not sure that is normal. I also created a new user account, but it is behaving the same way.
I tried to install Type to Learn (a learning to type program) under my daughter's account. This is what it said: "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges." I went to my account and successfully installed it. I went back to my daughter's and got the same message. I tried a google search and came up with things 6 years old...mostly dealing with printers.

I have now bought a new imac 20" iMac OS X 10.5.3 and although it installs, it will not open and a message appears "An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit." No explanation or help offered. I have tried downloading other versions but no success. Having now retired I use photoshop a lot to produce fun cards for the grandchildren and a Newsletter.
