I just bought a iMac 27" i5 version with the 2-TB Hitachi HDD.

HDD: Always 1100 or above
CPU: 939
Temperatures:
ODD: 46C
HDD: 57C
CPU: 43C
The only thing what bothering me is the loud HDD fan. Really annoying.
So, what for iMac have you and what are the fan-speeds and temperatures of your iMac? And of-course how did you solve these high fan-speeds? (If you did)
Lately I've been feeling my 24" Alu-iMac (Prev. Gen 3.06) and it's feeling really hot. I got iStats and here are my temperatures:
CPU A: 108 F
Airport: 140 F
Ambient: 75 F
GPU: 122 F
GPU Diode: 131 F
GPU Heatsink: 122 F
HD Bay 1: 136 F
Memory Controller: 117 F
Optical Drive: 120 F
Power Supply: 165 F
Macintosh HD: 135 F
Fans:
CPU: 1200 rpm
HD: 1198 rpm
Optical Drive: 698 rpm
My fans have been really loud lately and that got me worried so I downloaded iStat and my temperatures are as follows
HD: 48
CPU: 41
CPU Heatskin: 42
Airport Card: 43 (But it was at one point 60!)
Ambient: 24
GPU: 54
GPU Diode: 55
GPU Heatskin: 53.
I have an iMac 2.4 GHz Core 2, couldn't tell you the size of the screen but if thats needed. I'll find out.
Please let me know if I should take this in to the Genuises and see if my fans need replacement, or something the numbers aren't very high right now, but they do tend to get higher, like HD could get up to 50 at times.
this is my first iMac, so Ive this questions;
In these days it's very hot here, 32� (90F) and over, and my room is exposed at sunlight all the afternoon, and its not very big.
I hold the window closed, but its always hot in the house, 26� (79F) or more.
If I hold the iMac turn on (with minimum brightness) for 10 or more minutes he starts to be heated, and now for example, that is night and I've 24�(75F) in my room, I've these temperatures:
It's normal?
I bought my first Mac a few weeks ago and so far I'm very happy with my decision to switch from Windows to Apple. But there is one thing that worries me..the temperatures. Here's a screenshot from istat pro. Are these temperatures normal (especially the temperature of the power supply)?

My iMac 24" (3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB memory, one of the newest generations) has an audio out jack that double as an analog/digital out? I have a high end sound system with receiver, sub, speakers, surround, etc. that I want to deliver the highest quality sound I can from my iMac. I use optical cables with my other peripherals yet I was unaware that there was a converter that could take an optical signal to an analog "headphone" jack? This doesn't reduce the quality at all? Could someone tell me the exact name of such a converter and if I'm correct in assuming it allows a standard optical fiber audio cable to fit in the "headphone" jack on my iMac. Would like to run out and grab one. And again, is this the best option for highest quality audio from my iMac?

I checked system profiler but quite frankly wasn't sure of the designations.. does anyone have any experience with this camera, by the way? is USB 2.0 by definition "High Speed"?

I just want to see how different a unibody MB does.
i have a 1.5 Mbps AT&T DSL connection, and multiple speed tests show a download speed of 1.2 Mbps (and 200 Kbps upload). when i download files, such as software updates from Apple, various podcasts, and even Silverlight from Microshaft, the speed is always between 140 - 160 Kbps. i contacted AT&T, and the rep said it was because of buffering by the servers i was receiving the files from.

I have a powerbook g4 which has a screen resolution of 1280x854. Does that mean I can watch 720p content? Because adobe in terms of coding for mac is a big fail and won't let me watch anything above 480p with a steady frame rate, is this the same for non flash content?

I'm debating on the models so could do with your personal suggestions.For general high def video editing ( non professional ) would I be fine with a 13" MacBook Pro 2.9 or would I regret it and should I invest in a full on retina model and make use of the solid state drive speed?Basically would video editing on the old version be sluggish or would the retina just be overkill for what's want. I don't intend to upgrade every year so ideally I'd want it to last me a good 3-5 years. Note that it will mostly be plugged into a big monitor so screen size is not a big deal.

I'm using iStat Pro and I'm just wondering what "too hot" is as far as temperatures go, specifically CPU, HD? I play CS Source and Warcraft 3 occasionally and it tends to get very hot. Up to about 176 degrees F.

It is reaching temperatures up to 212 F or 100 C, but has found an average 207 F or 97 C. This is the highest I have seen my MBP go when the CPU is pegged. It usually hangs out at around 165-170 F when under load( such as Folding@home). Is this a safe temperature?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy 2009 13" Unibody MBP will overheat if I so much as look at it, or so it seems!. The issue here is that the fan will come on really loudly and the bottom of the machine will become unbearably hot under the following conditions:
1. CPU load = 20%, temp = 76 C, browsing the web
2. CPU load = 33%, temp = 77 C, watching an online video
3. CPU load = 35%, temp = 82 C, watching a movie on lovefilm
3. The lid of the laptop is closed, and I am carrying it in a bag
4. I am charging it with the lid closed.
5. Using an external monitor I have to keep the lid open and on battery use, otherwise it overheats and the fan come on loudly. Obviously if I shut it down there is no fan noise, however it still gets hot when charging.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an octo 2.8 which I use at 3.2 overclocked, and I have been running handbrake for 20 hours straight, utilizing all 8 cores. So the machine has been working full capacity for 20 hours, and I check CPU temperatures with Hardware Monitor, and they are 55 degrees. These CPU's are ok up to 100 degrees or so. So how can they stay that cool even at full load? I wish I could overclock them even further but RAM's can't be overclocked further so I need to stop at 3.2 Ghz.

I reset my SMC by using the method on Apples website (Clicking Shift-CTRL-Option-Power Button at the same time). It haven't worked it seem, as I have tried running some games and even at 85-90C degree, its not increasing its RPM. I don't wanna go any higher as I don't wanna risk the CPU overheating.
