Software :: Mac Leopard Crashes After Force Quitting Applications?

Sep 16, 2008

Where are the up dates for Leopard? Why Does my brand new Mac Pro crash daily? Why does Apple release software that is not stable? How do I fix this problem of leopard constantly crashing after I force quit an application? I'm losing $1000's because of this stupid faulty system. Who's up for a class action lawsuit? This is not fair to consumers who spend good hard earned money on a new computer only to get a faulty Operating system that runs worse than windows. Screw you steve jobbs. This needs to get taken care of now and Apple doesn't offer any outlets. This seems like a planned faulty release and Apple needs to fix it or give us our money back. I need at least 2000 people to follow in a class action law suit.

IMac (Intel) :: Some Of Applications Keep Quitting Unexpectedly?

Jun 22, 2014

Random applications like Steam, Safari, or even games I've bought close unexpectedly at different times. Safari will close if I try to watch videos occasionally; Steam will close if I try to click on random games; and some games won't even launch, it will still say they "quit" unexpectedly.

Intel Mac :: Programs Quitting Unexpectedly Or Will Not Open

Mar 29, 2012

This week I have several programs that are quitting unexpectedly, or will not open all of a sudden. Photoshop CS, office 2004, and even the Appleworks programs. They all refuse to open. I uninstalled PS and the office products, and then tried to reinstall and couldn't even do that from the install disk. I did do a disk repair scan, but it said there was nothing wrong with the disk. And I'm getting some SymSecondary launch(whatever that is) failure as well.

OS X :: Shutting Down And Force Quitting

May 14, 2009

Having these main problems (which I'm sure many have witnessed using Leopard):
(I have a desktop imac (intel core duo 2.66).)

1 The machine often refuses to shut down (or restart) and I get that black veil slide down the screen following the "you need to restart your computer..." message
2. The machine refuses to shut down and just stays on the desktop image with the black spinning wheel spinning endlessly.
3. I'm getting problems with applications refusing to quit (even when using opt-cmd-escape) . even when the computer "acknowledges" that the ap has quit, the icon is still active in the dock underneath.

MacBook Pro :: Running Particularly Hotter Than Normal - Freezes Itself - Force Quitting Photobooth In The Process

Jan 13, 2010

The problems:
Yesterday and the day before were particularly warm. I didn't really notice until yesterday that my computer was running particularly hotter than normal, even while sitting on my desk for long periods of time. Later in the day yesterday, it was pretty warm and my MBP was running hotter than normal for just sitting on my desk. Noticeably hotter too. At the time, I was running quite a few programs: Safari, Firefox, Msn, Text Edit, and possibly Photoshop as well.

All of a sudden, when I try to open Photobooth, the computer freezes itself for the first time since I can remember... it takes nearly 5 minutes to unfreeze itself, force quitting Photobooth in the process. I wasn't sure what was going on, so I tried opening Photobooth again after everything was back to normal. Same thing, but this time it was taking even longer to try to unfreeze itself. I got kind of impatient and pissed, so I closed a bunch of programs. Tried to log into msn to tell my friends why I left randomly... and yeah, the computer freezes up again. I tried to click into the Finder to force quit the program, but the Finder freezes up and won't even open the "force quit" panel. At that point, I waited a few minutes and then forced a shut down via holding the power button.

I waited a few minutes again, and tried to turn on my MBP. I log into my account like normal... my desktop image comes up, but it just sat there. No files, no HD, not even the Finder toolbar at the top showed. I let it sit like that for about 15 minutes. Nothing. Fed up, I forced a shut down again. Closed the lid, and went to sleep. The next morning, it was cooled down considerably, so I started up the computer again. Same deal, except after about 15-20 minutes the HD image loads. And then a minute or so later, my files load, along with the Finder toolbar at the top. Hooray! ...not really.

I open up Safari. Things seem alright. I get to my email, then try to open Firefox. Firefox immediately gives me the "Well, this is embarrassing..." message upon loading the window, and about 20 seconds later quits itself without warning. I tried opening it a couple of times, nada. Same thing happens over and over. Same with Photoshop. I haven't really tried any other programs... because eventually my problems got worse.

I went through the day taking notes for my classes on Text Edit, because apparently Text Edit and Safari are okay with my computer at the moment (using this right now, actually). When I get back, I try to restart my computer to hopefully give it a chance to shut off and start up again to fix the application force-quitting problem. Worse. It goes to restart, and then gets itself stuck on the load image of the purple aurora/galaxy default desktop background. Considering the issue that I had that morning, I let it sit for a considerable time. Nothing happened. So I had to force a shut down again. The ONLY way it seems to be able to start up is to force the shut down and then start it up again. The desktop takes several minutes, if not 5 or more, to load my desktop files. If I try to do anything upon it immediately loading my files, icons, etc., it will freeze up for several minutes trying to execute the command. Ex: clicking on my HD to get to the Disk Utilities application. Eventually, I got the Disk Utilities to open and run a disk repair. The repair was quick and suggested only a few issues with things like Quicktime.

^ it was a bit too late at this point to call a mac place about my issue, so I called my parents. I tried to print something out for my mom via Text Edit and the computer froze up again. Couldn't even get the Finder to unfreeze itself. Forced a shut down, and now I'm here. Safari's up. Just about the only thing that is actually still working. And so is the Disk Utility.

I'm unsure of what to do next... I have two external HD's. One is brand new, nothing on it. I'd love to attempt backing up all of my files before taking my computer in to get it checked out. Not really 100% sure how I might attempt that, considering the way my computer has been handling doing much of anything at all lately. Any advice on what to do next before I take this sucker into a mac shop would be really great.

~Admittedly, I don't treat my computer the best that I could... once I left it on my bed for a while and it had to shut itself off because it overheated. It was fine afterward, but a few times I've fallen asleep after leaving my computer on my bed. When I would wake up, I would immediately check it. Sometimes it would wake up from being asleep (checked the temperature; usually not that warm thankfully), other times it seemed to have turned itself off. I attributed this to the battery running low... but I'm actually not sure. Maybe I let it overheat itself again? I'm not entirely sure, sadly. This is my first laptop though, so I'm kind of slowly learning the "no-no's" of how to treat my computer. Thankfully, I read enough around here to invest in the extended warranty.

Intel Mac :: New Software Update - Now Applications Quitting?

Mar 24, 2012

this is my first time posting and I hope someone can help me.  Last night my machine routinely installed new software and now tonight when I have tried to use some applications and also one of my games which I have been using regularly for about a year now I have got the following messages This application quit unexpectedly and the other said Assertion failed: is Loaded. I am wondering whether it is anything to do with the software update installed last night.  I know this happened to me once before and it was something to do with the update and I was told to download something else which cancelled out what was previously installed and everything started working perfectly again.

After about 5 or 6 times of restarting it I can finally get it to start up correctly. But then my applications quit unexpectedly all the time.. especially safari.. and illustrator and indesign a lot too. I ran the extended hardware test and it fails on the memory.

Applications :: Mail On IMac Won't Retrieve Email And Have To Force Quit?

I just set up my new iMac, migrated everything from my MacBook Pro, and everything works EXCEPT Mail. I have configured my MobileMe settings to synch everything, and online, everything is there: contacts, all old email, etc... but Mail doesn't show any of this stuff, nor will it retrieve or synch any of my email accounts. Also, I have to Force Quit it everytime to exit the program.

Could this be something with the Preferences file, or .plist file?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Finder Flicker On Blue Screen And Restarts Quitting All Open Apps

Apr 27, 2012

Finder will flick to blue screen for a split second and restart quitting all open apps. Not restarting the iMac, but just Finder? I've ran Disk Utility and found no problems and also ran a Hardware Test and found no problems. The only indication I have is in Console which without posting the whole log the below lines stand out to me as potential issues:

HIToolbox: received notification of WindowServer event port death.
This line is present numerous times with each application name that was open next to it indicating to me a reason each app has quit? Then a long list of this line repeated;
com.apple.fontd [58544] FODBCheck: foRec->annexNumber != kInvalidAnnexNumber (0)
Followed by:
com.apple.WindowServer[58526] WindowServer[58526] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.

This happened once yesterday and a few times today so it's becoming more regular...

recently bought a macbook pro and slowly getting the hang of it. spaces is really great but i often forget to make the best of it because i'm too quick to open the applications before switching to the right space. so, as the title says, is there a way to make sure programs always use a specified space when starting up? i know you can always move the programs afterwards but not unless you use the mouse and even after moving they still consider the startup space thier "main" space (for error messages and the like). also, i'd like to use my mouse as little as possible

OS X :: Is There A Way To Force A Folder To Open With A Specific View Option?

Jun 4, 2009

I'm currently running the latest version of Leopard, all up to date. Recently, I started to collect some old footage (videos) in my Movie folder, I even added some silly covers to them like Joe's birthday - 2009 etc., The thing is that even with the ICON set to 128x128 I still think it's a bit small, so whenever in this folder I like to use the CoverFlow view and all it's glory.

Now, here comes the tricky part, is there a way to force this folder to ALWAYS open in the CoverFlow view? I just want this particular folder to do this, the rest should open normally in the default view with their 48x48 icons.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Preview Remaining Open In Background - Requires Force Quit

Jun 20, 2012

I have this problem on my new MBA (2012) and mac mini (2011), both running the latest update of LION (10.7.4). Basically, if I am using preview, it shows up on my dock no problem and I can close windows/hide/quite no problem. Usually a while later, a copy of Preview ends up showing up in my FORCE QUIT menu (if I happen to be there), but is not visibly open. (see pic).

Odd that it occurs on both. Only things that are non-apple installed on MBA (and mirror with MM) are:

- MS Office 2k11
- Firefox
- ClamXav virus scanner
- Diablo 3

MacBook Air :: Slow Quitting Of Applications?

Dec 16, 2010

I have a 13" macbook air ultimate and often when quitting apps it seems the system stalls or hangs for a while (not long, but noticeable. imagine counting 3 seconds after pressing Command+Q or the quit button before the window finally disappears). It is starting to get to the point where it is frustrating and just plain irritating.

Occasionally after issuing the quit command, the spinning beachball appears which I have NEVER, EVER seen on my macbook air for any other task I have done on it. (albeit I am a fairly lightweight user) Makes me wonder what is so taxing about quitting an app on my macbook air which doesn't flinch when others are editing photos in photoshop on it.

This is also, my first mac and so am not completely sure what is the norm for OS X behaviours.
