Windows On Mac :: Installed Windows And Now Can't Find OS X?
Feb 17, 2010
I have no clue what my friend did, apparently downloaded windows 7 and installed it on his mac somehow and now all it does is boot in windows..
I haven't looked at it yet and he's bringing it around tonight.
I told him to hold the "option" key on start up and he says the only option he has is windows..
Has anyone heard of this before?

I just installed boot camp and windows on my new imac. Everything seems to be working great. I noticed, however, that on the mac keyboard there is not an "insert" button or a "num lock" button. Is there a link or manual to figure out which buttons I can use for the windows apps?

I went to install XP on boot camp and I accidentily installed it on the wrong partition, so the drive that had leopard on it is now formatted to NTFS and I cannot format it back. I beleive all my data is still on because there is a lot of used disc space. I want to convert it back to HFS without the loss of data, as I have important information on the hard drive that I do not want to lose. I know this is my own fault because I wasn't paying close enough attention to where I was installing Windows

Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.

I've used the bootcamp assistant to create a 200 GB partition for Windows. I installled windows 7 x64 on this partition, everything is going well so far. I'm able to press the option key after installation and run windows and perform some updates (note, I couldn't install the required software IN windows from the snow leopard disk, let's hope this is not the source of my problem).
Everything went well so I booted back to OSX and I noticed that I needed some more partitions, so I've split my Macintosh HD further into a Media and a School partition. I didn't touch the windows partition though.
After experiencing (before) with hackintosh computers I know that i have to rewrite the boot configuration of the harddrive. Because now I'm not seeing the Windows HD anymore while holding the option key at startup and therefore unable to boot into Windows anymore. Even parallels can't discover the Windows partition.
I've tried repairing permissions, and nothing. I've tried to use the repair option on the Windows 7 disk which states it can't be done.
What can I do? Do I have to repartition it again in an different order (bootcamp states that it can only create a Windows partition if there's only 1 partition in the harddrive, so it's logical to repartition the drive after bootcamp created the Windows HD or even after the installation of Windows itself). Perhaps I need to rewrite the boot config of the mac, which I don't have a clue about.
Being 64 bit windows is not an issue, because it worked at first (before repartitioning)

I seem to be rather confused after reading so many websites which say its possible to install windows 7 upgrade over xp by custom install in bootcamp.
I purchased a windows 7 upgrade which I have downloaded as a ".img" file.
However, bootcamp doesnt recognize my .img disc.
I have tried converting the .img to a .iso, and then burning the .iso as a iso disc, but still no luck. (Im not sure if its because of Active iso software Im using to burn the discs or if im doing something wrong.)
I have a legit version of XP already running via bootcamp.

A few months ago I bought snow leopard and installed windows 7 32 bit Home premium on my mac.
It is a mac mini intel duo core. I have 2 GB of ram and I bought the windows 7 disc at Best Buy. everything worked fine the first time I installed windows 7. A while later I decided I didnt want windows any more so I got rid of it.
Recently I decided I wanted it again. so I tried my hand at it. Created a partition in boot camp, put the windows disc in and it wont install.
I have a wireless mouse, and an external HD. I also have an external disc drive cause the internal on my mac mini burnt out.
Again, the first time I tried to install windows it worked, and everything was fine.
Now it wont work, I either get a black screen after a few moments of the windows disc appearing to spinning, that reads CDBOOT: Memory overflow error, insert boot disc and press any key to continue (or however it reads)
or. when I unplug my external HD, and try again, it goes to a white screen and soon after the windows disc stops spinning and nothing happens at all.
It is the full version, not an upgrade disc.
I had at one point gotten everything to work, so why not now?
One more thing. The second time around I tried to install windows when I tried to create the partition, it wouldnt work and said that some files could not be moved. So... I uninstalled a large file game I had, tried again, still nothing, so I started ALL over and completely reinstalled OSX, the discs that came with my mac mini, then installed snow leopard again. And it lets me create the windows partition in bootcamp, but wont install windows now.
oh and when i installed windows the first time I had my wireless mouse, external disc drive and external HD. So nothing has changed there. Basically, everything I did when it worked, is the same and wont work this time.

I would like to have the windows OS installed on my MBP. idk if it's important or if it makes a difference but i have a 15" with 2.66 ghz. i've seen different options in this forum as far as what's available (vmware, parallels, bootcamp, etc.). switching back and forth or running both at the same time between OS' is very preferable. can anyone using any of these programs school me on the differences, pros/cons, benefits of using one over the other, or straight up give me suggestions on which one to use? i'm tryin to google the differences but it's not so helpful so i figured i'd go straight to the pros for advice.

I wanna install via Boot Camp an XP, but would it slow my MB? I mean working on Mac OSX, start up/shut down time etc...? If yes, how much it'll slow it? I've got MB Alu, 2GHz, late 2008. Generally is it worth to install XP on MB for gaming, I mean, not for real gaming, for that I've got consoles, but sometimes I wanna play with friends CoD:WaW, Crysis etc...

I have Macbook Pro With OS X. I am new to mac. I try to use bootcamp and make a 32 gb partition in my mac. And I put a CD of XP in cd drive when it restart it show me no bootable disk found something like that on a black screen. Then I restart again and press and hold c key nothing happen. After that I try to hold my option button and I saw a grey screen with a harddisk but unable to find the cd icon same story with windows 7 and vista dvd but when I try to use Mac OS X cd that come with bundle. It show me the icon of mac cd on grey screen near the hard disk icon when I hold the option button. I also check the cd and dvd on a windows boot perfectly. And when I insert disk in mac it works fine and also shows the icon of cd and dvd on mac desktop. I would like to have XP and mac OSX on my laptop.

I installed W7RC and VMware fusion did everything for me. I remember when I installed XP I had to put in my OSX disc to install drivers to make certain things work...? Do I need to put my OSX disc in with the RC and Fusion 2.0.5?
Everything seems fine but I'm not familiar enough with windows to actually know.

I have bootcamp installed on my iMac. Do I need to purchase Parallels to run Windows on my Mac? And if I do buy and run Parallels is windows included in that package? Or is my most cost effective option to buy Windows 7 and install it via BootCamp?

iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), Mac OS X(10.6.2)

I've installed the Boot Camp drivers that came with the Snow Leopard dvd. Then after everything is installed, I look in the Apple Software Update program for the 3.1 Boot Camp-Update. I try to install this, but during installation several errors pop-up from the bluetooth, trackpad and keyboard driver.
After restarting the laptop, I can't use the functions (like brightness, volume,...) on the F1-F10 buttons anymore. The only solution to make it work again is to reinstall Windows. System Restore or trying to install the original Boot Camp drivers doesn't work. I thought this was just some corrupt download so I reinstalled Windows, but the problem still occurred. I then did it again, but still.

Just installed Win 7 on MBP13 in bootcamp. I am going to install Parallels next and point the VM to bootcamp OS so I can choose. I'll likely run Parallels mostly, but may need to boot from bootcamp once in a while for native speed. If I install the aps in the bootcamp OS, can the VM in Parallels access them? Or do I have to install them again in the VM?

So I just installed windows 7 x64 (bootcamp) on my iMac 27" mid 2010.
It seems to be taking up 11 GB more than there really is on the partition.
Partition size: 33 GB
Used space: 22 GB (in reality 11 GB)
Free space: 11 GB (in reality 22 GB)
I know for a fact that a newly installed windows 7 is not this huge.
Also I selected all the folders and checked the size and it simply doesn't match what the Drive Properties tells me.

I'm on a macbook pro, just installed windows SP2 and I ran out of battery about half way through the installation, So I restarted after charging a little, and My monitor did not even turn on, I was left with a inactive monitor, also My keyboard did not respond at all.I presume these problems are caused by the XP not sharing the hardware, however; I cannot eject the CD with XP on in order to put my Leopard install disk in (to reset) because the keyboard won't work, Also it is a university laptop and I don't have the install disks!

I tried following this article on creating a bootable disc from a OEM Version of XP Pro.Unfortunately it won't run when attempting to open it in the virtual machine. It stops and says "Missing or corrupt INF file txtsetup.sif"
