Anyone tried to restore a Win7.iso installer (with Disk Utility in 10.6) to a FAT32 or NTFS partition on a USB flash drive then try to install from this after booting from it rather than installing from optical media?
View 2 RepliesI finally got my HDD partitioned and BootCamp Assistant to work correctly, I insert my Windows 7 disc, and it starts installation, but then stops and says it needs CD/DVD drive drivers, and to please insert floppy/usb/cd/etc. with the drivers. However, I can't eject the CD to insert my Snow Leopard disc and can't find the drivers poking through the SL CD to put on an external or flash drive.

The question I have, if I install Win7 now using the work around methods what happens when Apple do update Boot Camp to officially support Windows 7.
Is it a case of just running the updated Boot Camp program to install the necessary / officially supported drivers or do I have to do a full clean re-install of the Windows 7 OS.
I have a MacbookPro6,2 (mid 2010). I replaced my optical drive with an OptiBay 500GB hard drive before I realized I wanted to do bootcamp. So, I did a lot of searching and found that I would be able to install windows 7 onto my bootcamp partition using Parallels 6 (from an image of the retail windows 7 disk). The install from parallels was successful so I used parallels to install the bootcamp drivers to the windows partition.
However, when I try to boot to the windows partition, it starts up, displays the 'starting windows' message w/ the windows icon then BAM--Blue Screen of Death flashes on for less than a second and the machine restarts. I can't even read what the error is, thats how quickly it restarts. I also searched the partition looking for the BSOD error log but no log was generated.
Is it possible to install Boot Camp 3.0 or higher on Windows 7 64-bit when dual booting with Leopard? What I've been reading suggests I need the Snow Leopard disc for Boot Camp 3.0+ and Windows 7 compatibility, but I only have the Leopard OEM disc.

I am looking at installing windows 7 x64 on either the lower spec 13inch macbook pro, or the lower spec 21.5inch imac. Installing windows 7 itself is so easy, but how do i get the drivers installed and which work? I know I should use the bootcamp drivers for vista off of the OS X disk but is it as simple as inserting the disk, navigating to the folder and running whatever? And does everything work for both the systems I mentioned? Including sound etc., and if not, how do I get it to work.

I have the extra Ram, 8 GB to work with and I think 64 Bit might use it more than the 32 bit version. Has anyone out there used 64 bit with 8 GB ram?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't get VMWare to install their tools that supposedly helps with the Win7 drivers. However, i have the Win7 drivers for my MBA from a previous attempt to install Boot Camp. They are in my MBA dowload/drivers folder and on a USB thumb drive. But the VMWare install won't look at either. It only wants to look in 3 places.
A: floppy drive (haven't had one in many years)
CD drive D: VMWare tools (which is no help at all)
Boot X: drive
I installed VM Fusion, and then Windows 7 Home Premium. I accidentally clicked some language other than English as the main language, and the install started. Can anyone help me change the language to English within the settings? I can't read any of the options under the start menu.
View 17 Replies View RelatedSo I've finally got all the partitions sorted out from my previous OS setup, and go to install Windows 7. Partway through the setup (just after asking language) it asks for CD/DVD drivers. Okay, I'll try eject the disk. Nope, eject key not working. So I can't put the disk with all the drivers in. I'll copy the drivers to my external HDD. When I browse for them, I am told there's nothing there. So, I don't know. I can't install the drivers it would seem (unless someone can find the CD/DVD drivers for windows?) and therefor cannot continue with the installation because it wont let me click next until these damn drivers are installed. Windows 7 64 bit, by the way.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince Apple is releasing new Bootcamp drivers sometimes within the next couple of months, should I wait for it, and only install Win 7 in Bootcamp then? Or will it be pretty much the same if I install it now, and simply update Bootcamp when the time comes? What I mean is, could the current drivers have any adverse effect on the installation of Windows 7? If so I would rather not install now. But if not, I might as well install it now and just update the Bootcamp drivers once Apple releases them - will it be the same?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my late 2008 MacBook Pro and everything went smoothly until it came time for me to pop in my Snow Leopard disk and install the drivers. When I put the disk in I get a window called "Install Assistant" that has two options: "Remote Install Mac OS X" for MacBook Air computers and "DVD or CD Sharing" again for MacBook Air computers. This doesn't seem right. Shouldn't I get a window that lets me install the necessary drivers for Windows 7? I've also tried my 10.5 Leopard disk with the same result. I have also tried downloading the BootCamp 3.1 update, but when I attempt to install it I receive a message telling me that in order to install Boot Camp 3.1 I need to have BootCamp 3.0 or higher.

I've got a mac mini running SL and W7, but I only ever use W7 on it. Is it possible to have a single partition on it running only Windows 7? Is it even possible to boot from a Windows & install disk *without* going near boot camp? View 6 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my hdd a couple of mins ago from the 120 gig to a seagate 500gig , but before doing that i used "carbon copy cloner" to clone my old drive, as well as the 8gig partition i had there where i used to keep my copy of snow leopard (easier that carrying the disk around).CCC cloned both partitions perfectly.I named them Mac and Mac-backupthen I created another partition using disk utility and named it Win - this is where i want to install win7 via bootcamp. The "Win" partition is totally empty.

And I've copied all of the Win7 files off of the installation DVD on to the jumpdrive. I've prepared my Mac for installation by installed rEFIt and all the other instructions on the following tutorial: [URL]. Using Bootcamp, I sectioned off 150GB of the 256GB SSD for Windows and installed W7 on it (the rest I leave for OS X, in case Windows fails, or upgrades become available). I've installed programs on the Windows drive, transferred my emails, etc. Now I still have to do something with the 1T hard drive, which I've decided not to partition, and to use exclusively in Windows mode. Two questions:
1. Please talk me through the process of formatting the 1T drive, as if I were a child!
2. I will use this drive mostly for large data files, but perhaps also for less important programs. Installations seem to happen more or less automatically when you insert a disc - how would I direct a program in the normal course of an automatic installation towards this second larger hard drive, AND is there any way (simply) to have programs running on the SSD with associated data files sitting on the other drive (e.g. with iTunes)?
Recently, I was installing Windows 7 on my Bootcamp partition, and the installation was going fine, but I ran out of energy so the installation was interrupted. I boot my Mac OS, opened Bootcamp and erased the partition just to create it again and install Windows once again. However, when I loaded the installation from my DVD, I got an error message saying that a CD/DVD driver was missing, and it found no hard drives even after rescanning my computer. When I chose browse, I was surprised when I saw not 2, but 3 partitions, one with my MAC OS, the new Bootcamp partition, and a drive called X: that was created when the past install got interrupted.
I've tried erasing the partition in bootcamp over and over, but I can't erase it, even though Mac OS tells me my drive now consists of a single volume. Do I need to format my whole drive? Do I need to install OSX? Will I lose all my applications and data? In case you need it, here's some info:

Got an '07 iMac, and just reinstalled Win7 on it, while playing around with the partition sizes. Before, everything worked fine. Now, I have no sound (though, if I strain my imagination, I think I can hear something). According to Windows, everything's working fine; says the driver is functioning just as it should. I've reset the computer, no dice. I've checked things in OS X, and its just fine.

I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.

He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? View 6 Replies View RelatedThe internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.
Can I do this? And if so how? Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).
So I just partitioned my drive to install Windows and noticed that my hard drive is now making that "crunching" sound that some hard drives make. It started during my Windows installation, and it happens regularly in Windows.
I also briefly hear it while OSX is starting up, but it doesn't seem to happen much in OSX. I've launched a bunch of applications and it is still pretty much silent. Any ideas what could cause this? Could it be NTFS? I have several hard drives in my PC that don't make that sound. I am using a 17" MacBook Pro unibody with the regular 320gb 5400rpm drive that it comes with.

now here is the problem my windows 7 is infected with virus (thats why windows suck big time) and i need to reformat my windows 7 and reinstall a new windows 7.
how am i supposed to do it? insert the installation disk and do like how we initially installed windows 7? just format the partition and reinstall again? i just want to make sure so i ask before doing anything.
or can i do this? i use winclone to restore? any1 have any idea? i'm new to all this i dont know how to do it. i have backup using winclone but how do i do it? do i still need to format then only use winclone?

I know it is possible to install Windows using an external DVD on a Macbook Air.
But is it possible on an iMac.

To be specific: my problem is that the screen remains gray, when I select to boot from an external DVD containing a bootable iso of windows 7.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just spent the past 5 hours trying to install Windows 7 via BootCamp on my new 27" iMac.
It would get past the initial installation and then after the final reboot just before it runs off the hard drive and asks you for a serial number, the screen would go black and I couldn't do anything.
So I found this solution here:

Except the instructions on that site are for an iMac with an NVIDIA Graphics Card. The 27" iMac has an ATI card. So at step 6 I deleted the file named: ATIKMDAG.SYS from the same directory.
Then clicked restart and was able to finish through the install process.

The way the iMac 27" DisplayPort works in the system, when installing windows it will output to BOTH the iMac screen and DisplayPort.
When Windows 7 install is reaching a certain point it is making a choice as to which display it believes it the primary display. ]
If you have a display plugged into your iMac's display port or have that ability you will see your install is working just fine, the problem is just that windows believes the active displayport on the back of the iMac is the primary display and moves all video to the port..
that is why you see a black screen. Rebooting and doing the driver deletion steps does work as it will allow windows to run on a generic driver unable to make that choice.
Note: you will need an additional monitor and a Mini-Display Port adapter to plug the monitor into the iMac to use the above method.
The BootCamp driver that loads only give a max resolution of 1980 X 1440 so everything looks stretched. Installing the ATI drivers from ATI did no good. (See the update below to fix this)
Also be aware that only the keyboard will be active during the install so you will need a usb mouse unless your really good at navigating Windows with only a keyboard.
UPDATE:
After installing Windows 7 if you run windows update there is an update available for the ATI card. Once installed and restarted the resolution is now fixed.
When you go into the resolution settings in Windows 7 the display now shows up as a color LCD and the max available resolution is 2560 x 1440.
I am new to Mac etc. I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit on my Macbook White latest edition with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Bootcamp. I run Windows 7 fine, but I want to install drivers from the OS X CD, but when I put it in the laptop, I get some weird messages as: Remote Install OS X - Install CD/DVD Sharing - It should be a bootcamp program that should show up, I've heard. I cannot get wireless network, etc.
