Software :: Flash An Indicator On Upper Left Corner Of Menu Bar When Disk Has Been Accessed?
Aug 30, 2002
I had, way back on 10.0.0.4 a copy of a little program that did nothing but flash an indicator on the upper left corner of the menu bar when the disk was being accessed, great for iBook use.

I've been using Flash 8 Pro on my imac G5 for a few years now with ZERO problems. When suddenly today the stage is STUCK in the upper left corner of the screen. Meaning the white stage is no longer centered and for the life of me, I can't figure out why or HOW to get it centered again.
I can see the grey area around the bottom and right of the white stage area, but even when I zoom all the way out, I can't see it on the left or top of the white stage. When I zoom all the way out, the white stage area is PERMANENTLY stuck to the upper left side of the screen and I can't move the stage around at all.
Could someone please shed some light on what went wrong and how I fix it? I assume it has something to do with the x and y axis? But I have no idea how to correct this.
I also don't remember changing ANYTHING that would cause this.

I was just dragging some items around the desktop into some folders in the Finder and I guess something got messed up. When I was finished moving things around, a small square icon appeared in the left hand corner of the screen that cannot be dragged to another location or deleted. Whenever I click, it a small screen pops up momentarily, saying that it's going to open a file (I deleted the file) and nothing happens. After I deleted the file, the small square box just contains a picture of a question mark. I'm trying to get rid of it, but I don't know how to.

My friend was using her iBook when suddenly the screen went black and the following error flashes in the upper left corner of the screen in command line fashion:
dyld: Symbol not found: dyld_lazy_symbol_binding_entry_point
Referenced from: /usr/lib/libncurses.5.4.dylib
Expected in: /usr/lib/libncurses.5.4.dylib
Anybody have any idea what this is? It's a 500Mhz iBook G3 running OSX 10.4.7 (I believe).

I'm using a Mac Pro desktop running OX 10.5.8 I noticed fairly recently that I have a blank area off of the upper right of the screen where safari windows will ocassionally disappear to. If I move my cursor over to this area it will disappear of the screen. However on all of the other sides/corners of the display, the cursor will remain on the screen. What is the cause of the blank area off the screen and how do I get rid of it?

My Mac froze. I tried rebooting and now it won't boot past the blue screen. I have a mouse pointer and there is a small black circle with three smaller blue dots inside of it in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Clicking on it does nothing. I tried booting in safe mode but it wouldn't boot past the galaxy screen. Again, I had a mouse pointer but nothing more. I've tried booting from the OS disc that came with the computer. It sounds like the disc is running but nothing ever happens.

First the specs from "About this Mac":
MacBook Pro "13-inch, Late 2011", 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 // RAM= 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Mac OS X 10.9.4 "Mavericks" (13E28)Â
The problem:
None of my USB Flash drives are accessible in Finder.Â
The drives do technically "Mount" properly - they show up in Disk Utility, with the "Unmount" & "Eject" buttons available (indicating it's mounted), and they're mounted to the path /Volumes/<Disk Name>. Also, the disks show up in the Finder Sidebar with the correct name etc.
However, If I click on the Finder icon for the drive, the window flashes white for a millisecond and then reverts back to whatever the window showed before (eg. my home folder's contents). Finder will not access them. This has occurred on 3 different USB Flash drives (all of the ones I own!), which are formatted for ye olde windoze, FAT16 or FAT32 (aka. MS-DOS).
The drives operate perfectly normally on an iMac running OS X 10.8.5 (accessible in Finder). I was able to copy files to/from & list the contents of the Flash drives normally.Â
In Disk Util. I can Unmount & re-mount without error. If I unplug the disk I get the expected "This disk was not unmounted properly" banner. Eject via DiskUtil appears to work properly without error, causing the disk to vanish from Disk Utility (as expected).
The directory /Volumes does not show the drive's directory (just "Macintosh HD") - in fact the first time I list /Volumes/ after plugging in a drive, it appears to show some folder in /Volumes that is quickly removed (kind of scrolls-up into itself) as soon as the /Volumes directory is listed - was it my drive playing hide-and-seek??
The Eject button / option (in right-click menu) is not available in the Finder.
If I use Finder > Go To Folder… and type in the "Mount Point" from Disk Utility, I get a "folder not found" error.Â
In DiskUtil, if I right-click the drive name and select Reveal In Finder…, strangely the folder will actually show up in /Volumes, and I can open the folder and view the drive contents (sometimes I have to Reveal it twice for it to work)! I was also able to create a new folder after this (which did show up on the iMac as well). However, if I tried to copy and files to the Flash drive, I get either
The operation can’t be completed because one or more required items can’t be found. (Error code -43)
(when I try to drag a file into the newly created folder on the Flash drive), or
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8058).
(if I drop a file on the Flash drive's root directory, or try to copy a file form the Flash drive to my computer).Â
I have tried DiskUtil/"Repair Disk" on the flash drives, which doesn't show any errors or warnings (they appear to be ok - again they work fine on another Mac).
I also did a "Repair Permissions" on my MacBook, to no avail.Â
I seem to remember having this same problem on OS X 10.8 at some point last year, and think I solved it via an online hint, but I have yet to re-find that solution (I'm on OS 10.9 now).Â
Info:
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), USB Flash Drives formatted as FAT16

My macbook pro has never made weird sounds. It is 2 and a half years old. It has been dropped twice, but not recently at all. Upper left side of macbook pro made very loud scratching sound as I opened it from sleep. It only did it when I had the laptop at a certain angle. It is still doing it. Im currently backing everything up to an external hard drive. I'm very worried. It was very loud, not the fan, not the usual disc slot movement, not the speakers.

I own a 17" MacBook Pro i7. I have noticed a very buggy sound from the top left corner of my MBP. It sounds like the HDD rotating but when observed carefully, its a some mechanical sound from the logic board (left hand top corner). The sound is comparatively lesser when I switch to 330m gpu using gfxCardStatus. I want to know if this is an issue only with my machine or it a common problem found on the this series of MBP ? Should I contact Apple for a repair or its a normal behavior of Flash on OS X ?

So, I believe my Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz, late 2008 model may have an overheating problem. I'm not sure what specific part it may be, but the computer gets INCREDIBLY hot on the top left corner of the keyboard.
Basically, everything above and to the left of the D key.
I first noticed the problem when I started dual booting recently so that I could play Modern Warfare 2. The game runs gorgeously, but after for a bit (sometimes its 30 minutes, sometimes its two hours) the game will just immediately quit out on me, with Vista popping up with a message that an error occurred.
So, as it froze on me again just now for the same aforementioned reason, I immediately booted back into my Mac partition to check temperatures, and it said my processor was at around 87 degrees Celsius, which, if quick Google searches are to be trusted, is MUCH too high.
On a somewhat related note, I find that my fan will start going to its maximum power for no reason whatsoever at times, like when I'm writing an essay or just checking my email (which I'm pretty sure are tasks that don't require much power.

I've got a iMac 27" mid 2010.
I see since several months some shadows and spots on the top left corner of the screen. I've read in many threads that this is a known issue (defect I would say, since I never misused my iMac).Â
My question is:
is this defect recognized by Apple and do they fix it for free?

Some weeks ago I dropped my MacBook Air (well, actually I couldnt do anything, my bag was broken so it dropped) and got quite a noticeable dent in the bottom left corner on the screen (outside, you can see the dent while closed). I tried to live with it but with such an expensive machine I can barely do that. So I tried to find a replacement part, the display housing. But - I cant. I can find replacement LCD displays, replacement housings fr MacBooks, for MacBook Pros - but NOTHING like that for the Air. Seems like this is Murphys law, eh? This really sucks.
