View 3 RepliesI have a MacBook; purchased in Oct. 2006. All has been working fine until yesterday. Safari suddenly shut down and when I tried to relaunch, the icon on the toolbar jumps a couple of times (teasing me as if he is going to launch) and then doesn't open. I did get it to "almost" launch a couple of times and it never opened my home page. It instead, within seconds, it shut down and I got the error message that the application suddenly quit but that my operating system wasn't affected, etc. All of my Office applications work fine but Safari will just not launch..

I know normally, you would follow the drop down menu and click into the safari preferences. Unfortunately now the words in the drop down menu are a lighter grey and unable to click into he section.

I am having issues with Safari freezing on my mac. I am running Safari 4.1.2 and running operating system 10.4.11. I am not sure if this is correct but i managed to sample the page by going on the Activity monitor.

I can temporary fix this by copieing the CONTENT folder from another MAC to mine and restarting, but everytime there is an update to Safari, Java, Flash etc. the same thing happens again.I am running Lion 10.7.3 on an Intel Mac and everything is updated. This has been happening on and off for weeks. Sometimes it even seems like only search engine sites like Yahoo! and Google aren't working. I click on a site and it does nothing. Then after a long time it says Safari can't connect to the internet. What can I do to find out what is wrong? It's taking me forever just to post this question because Safari is hardly working for me at all right now.

I have a new 13" MBP and recently a problem arose and it is annoying the hell out of me. Pretty often(i'd say once every 30 minutes of web browsing)while doing simple web browing, everything will lock up and I will get the beachball for a solid minute. If iTunes is open and playing when this is going to happen, the music pauses like 3 seconds before everything else freezes. Has anyone ever seen this, and if so do you have a solution?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs the thread title states, ever since I updated to snow leopard, both safari and firefox freeze up when I access the ESPN home page and occasionally a few other sites that I have never experienced problems with before on leopard. However, if i turn off the enable plug-ins button in the safari preferences pane, most of the sites work just fine. I thought it may be flash related but i have since updated the programs it it continues to freeze up on the ESPN page. side note, this happens on both my work and home computers (very different specs between the two).
View 19 Replies View RelatedI run a MBP early 2008 2.5 Penryn. I have 6GB OWC RAM and a 500GB Hitachi HDD. I run SL 10.6.2. From time to time, Safari freezes my computer for a time between a few seconds up to about 15 seconds, when I open a new tab with "CMD+T" or a new window with "CMD+N". As the whole computer freezes during this time, it is pretty annoying.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having serious issues with Safari 4. It's extremely glitchy and laggy, freezing for seconds when I open new tabs, or even when I scroll down. Many times I'm forced to force quit because it remains frozen. I have a Black Macbook with Leopard on it. The computer still performs excellently, so perfomance isn't an issue. When Safari freezes and I have to quit, I'm typically on flash heavy sites (which I'm sure adds fuel to the fire). But Safari almost always lags for me.

For some reason safari is acting weird. It will let me log onto gmail but as soon as i try to click an email it freezes up. Also when i click a link in vimeo it freezes up as well. I have to force quit and then re open the broswer. I use firefox to get around it but sometimes that acts up too. Do they need to release a new patch or something? I jsut want to know why did this start acting this way. All my software is up to date jsut to let you know and accessing safari on my ipad works jsut fine as well. I am using a imac to try to access my email and thats where the problems seem to be.

I have a 2009 13 inch MBP with 4G of RAM. Its loaded with the current version of Snow Leopard, version 5.1.5 of Safari and version 4.5 0f the Mail App. The screen of the MBP freezes up 3 - 4 times per day. Ninety percent of the time Safari is open when this happens (some of the time, the Mail App is open as well. The remainder of the time I may have another browser open, but the Mail app is open. I can move the cursor around the screen and "force quit" any open applications except Mail and Safari when this happens. The icons for Safari and the Mail App in my Dock turn grey if I click on them. Otherwise the spinning pizza wheel shows up. I have to use the power button to turn off and restart the machine.
I have tried resetting the PRAM. I also got a couple of error messages concerning Hazel (v3.1.1) via Growl on one occasion. Simply stated that there was an error when Hazel started to run, checking .docx files for Music and video. (Hazel runs from startup and I have rules set up to remove partial and duplicate downloads and clear all Trash files within a set period). I uninstalled Hazel, but the freezing still occurs. The apps I have running most of the day are Mail, a browser, Omnifocus, Preview and either Pages or Word in Office for Mac 2011. I back up a couple of times a day using Time Machine and every couple of days update a copy of my hard drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.

I have the 2013 15 inch retina Macbook Pro and I have been having a problem with it lately. Whenever I use safari, my browser is freezing constantly. Its is only when I use safari, not any other applications, such as Microsoft word. Normally, I wouldn't consider this a big issue, but it gets worse. When I don't navigate on my computer and let it rest for a minute or so (while running safari and sometimes other applications) this screen pops up:

My safari browser is slow (MacBook Pro 10.6.8). I often have to shut down my computer because it freezes with the spinning color wheel. Sometimes the browser will not be slow when I switch to the chrome browser, but sometimes it is. I may have a logic board problem so I am wondering if that could have anything to do with my slow browser. When I click on Software Update, it shows no software updates (for safari). What could be causing this?

when i was on my laptop and i forgot to put it on charge so it went flat while i was watching a movie (not on the internet). I couldn't be bothered charging it so i just put it down and went to sleep. The next morning i turned it on and tried opening safari and it went extremely slow, i got the beach ball and when i clicked the apple on top left to try to force quit, after 2 seconds of clicking that froze. When i tried to force quit it from my dock i would click force quit and then my dock would freeze. At this point my mac was just about completely frozen. The brightness didn't change, sound nothing but only the mouse could move. I reset and the exact same thing happened. Google Chrome works so i am using this and i get no freezing problems. It is just when i use Safari.

This was with every app open on my Mac. Switching between apps was instantaneous still and some apps would still open with less than a bounce.This was on a 2.26 13inch Macbook Pro with 2gbs ram.

I have been told I could upgrade this G4 to 10.4. Supposedly that would allow me to run a current browser. I don't know if that is true, it is just something I was told.
I have multiple fears about making such an upgrade. First, where would you get the discs to do that, and how could you get any patches or upgrades that were created subsequent to its introduction?
Second, would all my software listed above work with 10.4?
I imagine I would need to make up an external drive that completely mirrored my current setup, in case it went wrong and I had to go back to what I have.
My need is to have a computer I can use to look for jobs effectively. Monster.com won't even let me log in with this browser. I consider buying some used machine with a current browser to use for my job search, but hate to waste the money.
Do the experienced and knowledgeable here have some advice for me? Is there a safe way to make some changes on this machine and retain my current array of software?
As soon as I get a job I will spend the money [I currently have saved] to buy a new Intel Mac. I just don't want to let that money go while I am unemployed. I have been for three months and have not gotten so much as a single interview.
I upgraded my mac, to the latest version of the OS. Half way through the update, the power went, and my whole system, is messed up.
I thought, its ok, ill re install it from the disk, ill only lose software that i have installed, all my data is backed up, its fine. After 1 hour of installing mac OSX.5 the loaded, fine... but a few problems.
The software that came on the mac, is not there now.
My mac keeps restarting my Airport.
My question, if i use the disks that came with my mac, can i have the software back on OSX.4 and then upgrade it like when OSX.5 came out? Would i have hte software back?

That said, here's my question: Can I run a dual OS on my laptop? Its an Intel Core 2 duo 2ghz (2gig ram) with an Ati Radeon HD 2300 graphics and presently with Windows Vista Home Premium (manufactured by Acer - Aspire5720G).

In my macbook, I was using Server 2003, installed through Bootcamp. For some reason I urgently needed to install Windows XP on another partition i.e, I needed two operating systems natively without being used VMware.
Could you please post how could I succeed this through Bootcamp or any other third party software?
I have had my mac for sometime now and love it but was looking for more info on how the operating system works. For example I understand in my applications folder there is my programs but what is the library and the system library? How does it all work etc? I recently replaced the standard HDD in my 20" Intel iMac with a new HDD that's 1T and runs at 7200 RPM...
Now I've read about high temperature causing HDD failures.
Also, I've seen software you can download where you can control the fan speed to help cool the HDD...Anyone heard of this? If so, should I download such?
