Software :: Fonts In MS Word 2004 And Font Book?
Jul 15, 2008
Two questions on fonts:1. The list of fonts on the drop-down menu in MS Word 2004 for Mac shows 3 fonts which are not in Font Book:Helvetica CELucinda Grande CYMonaco CE.I do not use them, so how can I remove them from the Word menu?2. These three fonts ARE in the Font Book, but even if I disable them, they still show up on the drop down menu:Courier CEGeneva CETimes CEI have removed all but five fonts from OFFICE/Fonts. They are: Arial, Monotype Sorts, Rockwell, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS) Is there another location for Word fonts?

I added a new font to my Font Book but cannot find it on Word. I installed it, enabled it, and added it to the collections that show up on word but it still isn't showing up there. How do I use new fonts in word?

I've recently installed Mavericks (10.9.3) and noticed I have the same persistent issue I had in Mountain Lion (10.8.4), and if I remember correctly in Snow Leopard as well. Font book keeps disabling some fonts (mostly .ttf fonts though there are exceptions). I always reenable them, but after a reboot they keep getting disabled. I read somewhere that the font book preferences are easily corrupted but my install is just a few days old? Even so, I have place the plist pref file on my desktop, but to no avail. I have removed duplicate fonts, and Suitcase. I have cleared my font cache, after which some of the "problem fonts" disappeared altogether and some fonts were enabled as they should be. After closing and reopening Font Book all fonts were present but were - again - disabled. They're not some fonts I found on a dodgy site, but Google fonts, as well as some "respectable fonts" such as Futura. And it's not just the entire font family, but a couple of weights.

Until recently, all the fonts I have installed have been permanently enabled then a few days ago, I opened Pages and was informed that some of the fonts I regularly use in most of my documents, Optima Bold, Optima Italic, Optma Bold Italic, were not active - Optima Regular was.
I went into Font Book and found that there were many fonts which were no longer enabled. I enabled them all and carried on with my work.
But now, I have discovered that every time I reboot, these fonts are disabled again. Surely there must be a way to permanently enable fonts.

I would like to ask is it possible to load fonts into the Font Book of a MacBook Pro from a custom folder location, not from the default one?
Why I need this is because I work as a Web Designer and I would like to share all fonts I use with my design team, and when I add a new font or some of them adds it to be available for all of us. Right now what I do is we have a shared folder on Google Drive and every friday we update it by Copy & Pasting our fonts into that folder and then after all of us has done this we go in and Copy & Paste back all of the content, that way we keep our fonts synced.
What I was thinking is that if we can load the fonts directly from the shared folder would work really well to keep it in sync...

First, some info on my computer:
- OS X 10.9.3
- Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 version 7.5
- Office 2011 14.4.3
- Suitcase Fusion 5 16.2.0
As a graphic designer, I've accumulated thousands of fonts. In an attempt to clean this up, I recently purchased Suitcase Fusion 5. I transferred the fonts by going into Font Book and selecting "Restore Standard Fonts." I then took the Macintosh HD; Library; "Fonts (Removed)" folder and added those to Suitcase Fusion 5.
Then I went back, and added about five of the removed fonts back into Macintosh HD; Library; Fonts — just because they are fonts I use frequently — as well as the Microsoft folder of fonts.
Now, for some reason, every time I start my computer (I shut down every night before leaving my office) about half of the Microsoft fonts are disabled by font book. The next day I enable them and everything works well and they all show up in both my Adobe and Office programs, but I'd really rather not play that game every morning. Again, almost all of the fonts being disabled are in the Macintosh HD; Library; Fonts; Microsoft folder, but only until the Ms or so, after which point they all show up as enabled and work just fine. And then there are a couple of outliers I've marked with an asterisk, that are just in the typical Macintosh HD; Library; Fonts folder that are also being disabled, the most confusing one being ThirstyRoughTextures.ttf, because the rest of the Thirsty Rough family is working just fine. (This single Thirsty Rough file is the only of the five-or-so fonts that I added back into my library after restoring it to standard fonts that is acting up. The others show up in all programs just fine.)
Fonts being disabled:
Adabi MT Condensed Extra Bold
Adabi MT Condensed Light
*Arial.ttf (in Fonts folder)
Arial.ttf (in Microsoft folder)
Baskerville Old Face
[code]....

I just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.

Several fonts in my font book changed from a book file to a .doc at random, and now are not openable. How can I change them back, or at least get them to work?! This is for a business graphic arts networked system so an answer as soon as possible would be awesome.

I noticed on both my machines after installing 10.6.2 I had a bunch of duplicate fonts (looks like most were duplicates of Microsoft Office 2008 versions).Anyway, just letting people know. I was having weird font issues in Firefox and had to basically clear my font cache, resolve duplicates and reboot to get the fonts working correctly again.I know for a fact these fonts weren't duplicated prior to 10.6.2.

The other night I pulled some fonts that I downloaded a few years ago off of my external hard drive and installed them one by one into Font Book to the User profile. Right after I finished this, I noticed that now about 80% of the text on pages in Safari now appeared as the Yahoo font, instead of what they used to be (I visit about 10 different sites on a regular basis, so there's probably a variety of fonts that normally appear, but now most things appear as the Yahoo font). I don't have any style sheet selected in the Safari preferences, and the font preferences are untouched from what they are when Safari is installed. Not only are a lot of sites now hard to read because of the mess that the Yahoo font around size 10 is, but its just flat out annoying to read that crazy font.

just purchased an NEC Spectraview LCD2690WUxi2 display (1920x1600 26" LCD SIPS panel), and fonts are aliasing strangely, almost as if they are not falling "on the pixel" in the OS. It's not a "big" problem but is clearly noticeable in my transition from my 23" cinema display. This is particularly evident with small fonts or italics. I'm really hoping that there are settings either in OSX or on the display that can fix this issue. Images look absolutely fantastic BTWtack sharp, no banding, phenomenal color. In that respect this blows my old 23" Apple display completely out of the water. So it's likely something in the OS, no

My friend is having a weird issue with his Microsoft Word. When he opens the program, instead of having a blank document there is box with text in it (see attached picture). Any time you click to open a blank document, this is what you get. He has never used this text before and has had this issue since he installed Office 2004.
Does anybody know how to get rid of this or set the default to a blank document?

So for the longest time my files in Word 2004 for MAC have had MACRO saved within them. This doesn't really cause any problem for me on my system but when I try to email any word files to anyone it just wont work. The file will be blocked by my hotmail account, and if I use another account that allows me to send it it usually won't work right on the other person's computer. When I try to make them .RTF files... they usually don't display right for other Word users, although they look fine to me, especially when they have some elements like shapes and text boxes within them.
Does anyone know HOW I can get these things to stop saving in every single word file I make? This wasn't always this way.... I think I just accidentally recorded a macro a while back, without knowing what they were or what the consequences might be.
Again, I just need to disable ALL macros. If you know how to do this I'd be greatful if you could share with me.

I have a MS Word document to which I want to add photos. I've been able to drag the jpegs in question to the right place in the document, position them, and even re-size them. But when it comes to altering their positions--like nudging them a little to the right, they don't move. I've been trying to click on them to grab and then drag, but it doesn't work--they stay put, completely left justified.

I recently had to reinstall Windows for Mac 2004 because it refused to spellcheck my document (slightly annoying).
I remember that I had to download a plug-in in order to be able to add words to the dictionary. A technician did this, so I dont remember what the plug-in was.

We recently updated our iBook running 10.3.9 to a MacBook running 10.5.5.
The problem we have is with Microsoft Word 2004. In a multi-page document, Word only prints the last page, unless we specifically print out each individual page.
I found a thread that identified a problem printing to HP all-in-one printers. I followed the instructions in the thread and removed everything about HP printers from our Mac. I then re-installed the HP drivers from the MacOS 10.5 install disk.

I love sync, Calendars, and Mail and would hate to lose them on my Macbook Pro, but it seems that if I upgrade to Lion to operate iCloud, then Word2004 won't work any more. I've tried using Word 2011, but it seems to hang up avery 5 minutes and require a force quit.
I hate being forced to choose. I work every day with Word, to prepare reports, notes and manuals for my teaching job. I want somethign that just works, and Word2004 (like Word 5.1 which I used for 12 years before it) works. Word 2011 does not seem to be as reliable.

Some free fonts that i have downloaded refuse to be saved as PDF's due to copy protection issues. When downloading new fonts I now look for info on this, but I have downloaded many before and some are annoyingly PDF resistant ! Can I disable all fonts that are copy protected in one go so they won't appear in the Font Toolbar? or alternatively, can I disable the copy protection segment of font? Fonts are for personal use but would like to print them off.

When docx files started floating around, I couldn't figure out how to open them in MS Word for Mac 2004. Then I found out you could download the xml converter from the MS site, and that solved the problem. However, now that I have installed Leopard and reinstalled MS Word 2004 and the requisite xml converter, for some reason, when I double click on a docx file, it does not automatically ask to convert it as it once did.
Instead, it seems to bypass/ignore the double clicked docx file and goes straight to that open document screen where you choose what type of document you want. Anyone know how to get it to automatically open the docx files up in ms word 2004 and convert with the xml converter in leopard?

I have recently upgraded to Mavericks and now find that my old Word files (2004) can't be opened. (I can still open my Word 2008 files.) I have been a maths teacher for decades and have many old files which are still very useful but they contain more than just text; they contain diagrams, MathType expressions etc. etc. I need to be able to convert these files to files that can be opened with Mavericks. How I can do this?
