We have a mac environment and transfer files from computer to computer using Bonjour. Until recently it worked fine. Now the file transfers are failing. I can see the file icon (incomplete) in the downloaded folder but many times I have to force quit Ichat as I get a spinning lollypop and force quit says ichat is not responding.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several iMac machines and MacBook Pros that were upgraded to Mavericks. Since the upgrade they are unable to connect to a file share simply by clicking on the server in a Finder window and then clicking on the "Connect As..." button. (As I understand it, this is the Bonjour service.) This has worked in the past and works on machines running 10.8.x
I am able to connect to the very same file share if I use "Connect to Server" and type in the afp:// address.
Nothing has changed in the network that I'm aware of.
As you can see, there are a bunch of Apps that I have completely lost. I did nothing - at one moment they were there, and then a little later I open up the Apps folder to see this. When I try to click on them, they all say that I can't open the file because it may be damaged or incomplete. I haven't installed anything recently, or messed with any settings. The programs are just gone. Can anyone clue me in on to what I need to do to fix this? I just got this computer last Tuesday, so I doubt I should be having any problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile copying files from my digital camera xD card onto my mini, the Card reader un-mounted itself and remounted its self several times, I have no idea why...Now I have a load of 0Kb files in the folder where I was copying to. I can delete these, but they come up with a "file in use" error message so I need to click for each file to be deleted... ~350 left I did try a restart thinking that may clear up any "pending" file transfers from the system to allow them to be deleted like a normal file

I want to disable MY mac from showing up on other peoples Macs "shared sidebar" at school. We use the same network or same wireless router. I went to my shared folder and disabled EVERYTHING and made sure I have a password now not in the dictionary.
So. Can my Mac be accessed, viewed or seen now? Can someone view my screen remotely (hack) using Bonjour WITHOUT ME KNOWING IT?
I see tons of other computers on my side bar but i am worried they see mines and can some how control it without me knowing. I do know not to click any strange links from emails and such.. Like I said I've disabled ALL sharing and just made a password.
I have a 17gb movie that I had to complete for school and finished it at home on my PC, now I have to transfer the 17gb thing from home to school. Names of any Portable HD's that work between both OS? Willing to spend money if that helps I just have to drop the file onto the mac so i can sumbit it, So would NTFS work?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently freshly installed Leopard and upgraded to 10.5.8 before attempting to print on my Mac Pro.
When I tried to add my printers it found nothing. I also have a Mini on 10.5.8, on which I deleted both printers and they were both located and added straight away.
Having spent the afternoon searching for answers, about the only hint was to change to a static IP, rather than use DHCP. After doing so, one of my printers showed up immediately, but then OS X could not resolve what drivers to use. It still didn't find the second printer.
We have four 10.5.8 Macs and two 10.4.x Macs on the network. All except the Pro are happily using both printers, so it must be something dodgy on my Pro, just no idea what.
I've got the firewall set to allow everything and I've got print sharing turned on. All the Macs and printers are on the same subnet.
Edit: I should add that the printers' web interfaces are fully accessible, and of course they ping fine.
I have two MBPs.
Both used to sync some apps nicely, using Bonjour to see each other.
Nothing has been changed in settings or home network that I can recall, and yet one machine now no longer shows up under Shared, hence I can't sync the machine.
I've disabled the firewall on the machine in question.
I checked also that Bonjour was running using:
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
I also ran Bonjour Browser on both machines and neither reports seeing the "bad" machine.
Any ideas why one machine no longer shows up under Bonjour?
I was copying some music over from a CD onto my computer and I can listen to it all on itunes but it still says it's copying over. I can't eject the CD because it says it's still in use! What do I do to make this stupid transfer box go away!?

I did the data migration (used the network. we don't own a firewire cable) for her user account and files, she is still using parallels v3.0, and during the migration the 19 GB parallels volume file didn't transfer properly? so after a successful migration (other than the above) I went back to her 17" macbook pro, ran parallels successfully, compressed the parallels volume, ran parallels again successfully on the 17", then moved the volume file over the network to the 24" iMac, again the parallels program on the 24" iMac (which was just migrated from the 17") reports the parallels volume file is corrupted? what/where should I look for an answer on this one?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am transferring a folder of files from my MacBook Pro to my MacBook over wi-fi (Time Capsule / 802.11n network). Total folder size is 1.41 GB, and Finder is telling me it will take about 30 minutes (down from an initial estimate of 2 hours, which quickly dropped to an hour, then 48 minutes a couple minutes later).
The transfer rate is roughly .5MB every 1.5s or so in real time. . .is this about right, or do I have something set up very wrong?
These are two Macs, connecting to each other over a Time Capsule network (wirelessly); I have file sharing and Back-to-my-Mac turned on on both of them.
I backed up files from my Toshiba PC not long before it crashed. This backup was done to a WD MyBook external hard drive. Now i need to work out how to download these files to my new Macbook Air, as they are on the hard drive in PC format.

I'm hoping someone here might have encountered this issue before and have some kind of a workaround or solution...I've attempted to rip Rocky Balboa (a DVD I own) using Handbrake. It detects all of the titles (for some reason there are 99!) and automatically selects the right one, which shows as 1 hour 42 minutes. Also, all the chapters are selected (1 through 28) However, when I try to rip it, the resulting file is only about 3 minutes long - it's just the very beginning

I want to add the printer on its AE network into my work PC and not add software is this possible? and how would it be done? The snag I have run into so far in my efforts is that I cannon get an IP address from the AE. How does one go about doing this?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI like when Mac products "just work" -- except when they don't. In this case, I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and a mid-2007 iMac. I also have a 500 GB Time Capsule updated to the latest firmware. Not that it should matter, but I also have MobileMe. I've turned on the "wake on network" feature on the iMac. If I tell the iMac to stay awake, I can reach it fine (same as in Leopard). If it goes to sleep, it's unreachable. The way it's supposed to work, from what I'm reading, is that it's supposed to be accessible by advertising to the Time Capsule that there are services available (e.g. file sharing, screen sharing, etc). how can I be sure it's properly advertising this info to the Time Capsule?

How do I transfer files - in particular photos and iTunes stuff. Migration assistant does not work - it just spends hours looking for other computers. I could not get hold of a Thunderbolt/Firewire converter (none in stock). I have got a thunderbolt to ethernet converter but cannot seem to do anything with this.
We have one user who cannot send outgoing iChat messages through Bonjour. If he adds the person to his buddy list, he can IM anyone with no problem. The problem basically extends because if someone were to IM him through Bonjour, he can see incoming messages, but those people can never see anything he types in response.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a mac mini running leopard server that is gong to be replacing an ubuntu server machine that sits in my closet. the ubuntu machine is great because i can configure avahi to broadcast itself as an xserve and it shows up in finder as a server. i have no idea how to change the broadcasted system type in osx though. sure it's a little gimmicky, but i suppose i just enjoy seeing the little xserve icon in my sidebar.
i know that the icons are located in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ and i could just rename the xserve icon to the macmini icon, but then every mac mini on my network would show up as an xserve.
I've had a Mac (OS X 10.5.6) for about a year. I "set up" my iChat months ago, and don't remember what I did, but when I open it, a window called "Bonjour List" comes up with my name and picture with a little green video camera beside it. When I click the 'Buddies' drop-down menu, every option is grayed out.. as are almost all of the options on the other drop-down menus. Under the 'iChat' menu, beside Accounts it only says Bonjour.
I don't know what Bonjour is, and don't want to use it on iChat. I'd like to set it up with my AIM account but have no idea how to do so. Is there a way to reset iChat so that it asks me again what account I'd like to use and I can choose AIM? Or any other simple solution? Also.. I just took a screen capture to post here, and have been trying to Draw A Line on it to cover my name for 15 minutes.
On some of my Macs, the Finder shows Bonjour/SMB/Windows servers (see screenshot below)
But on others, they're missing. How to get them to show up?

I have an iMac and MBP. When I transfer files over the network (wireless) from one computer to the other, it is quite slow. I think around 1~1.5mb/sec. Is this normal or expected performance on file transfer via wireless? If so what can I do to increase the performance? Settings on the wireless router?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a G4 1.25 Ghz MDD desktop unit and have just purchased a 2010 Mac Pro. I have my Mac Pro all set up with the new software. I wanted to move documents to the Pro from the G4 using migration assistant. I made the necessary selections and deselections to copy documents, but not copy applications. I did not choose to copy users or settings. What I got was a copying of the applications [why, I don't know, since I did not request that], but not of the documents. I since have learned I needed to copy users, too, in order to get documents. I have an idea that I have some problems now because of the G4 software being on the Pro. Word, for example, saves very slowly; the saving is marked by prolonged spinning of the colored pizza of death. This machine has 12 Gb or RAM, so it is not a RAM issue.
I debate on trying to strip all the old mac's software out, but might miss something, or might remove something I don't want to remove. So, I consider just erasing the drive, reinstalling the OS, and reinstalling all my new software. Then, perhaps, moving documents in some more manual way. Can you connect two macs with ethernet or firewire and simply drag files between two finder windows? Rather than this migration assistant which seems to be able to cause problems? I do have two other internal drives, so I could build a new boot drive with new software as an alternative. The Mac Pro came with only two DVD's of software. Are those enough for a new install?
