Safari :: Can't Add Any Bookmarks Anymore Using The Plus Sign Next To URL
May 14, 2012
all of a sudden i can't add any bookmarks anymore using the plus sign next to URL. searched many websites which offer adequate solutions to fix but i cannot follow as folders/files can't seem to be found. I even had trouble finding the safari folder as it don't exist under library- may be clueless but i seem to have 2 folders for library: one under macintosh hd, the other under the system folder. also can't find the bookmarks.plist file either using spotlight. some sites say locate the com.apple.safari file, which seems to be missing in either cache folders, example of what is there is com.apple.components2.localcache.audiocomponents etc.... its frustrating especially when you find a good website to add to an already organised bookmarks folder.Â
NOTE- i did find safari folder via spotlight but within it was 2 folders of bookmarks and history and both don't have the bookmarks.plist file and only endless "webbookmarks..."Â

icloud isn't syncing bookmarks properly anymore. It was working fairly well for a while there. I seem to have some instances of bookmark deletion being replicated but not bookmark addition. This isn't consistent though. I don't have any major duplication of hundreds of bookmarks (yet) but my new ones aren't always appearing everywhere as they used to.Â

Safari default appearance includes a plus sign tab beside the address bar to be used to save bookmarks.Â
My plus sign disappears. Â
But it reappears when I swap focus to another application. Of course, if another application has focus I don't have immediate access to click the plus sign.Â
If I click where the plus sign is supposed to be I it gives me the option to save the bookmark but sometimes the file list shows and sometimes the file list does not show. Â
I have applied all availible Safari updates, including recently using MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg.Â
I thought about re-installing Safari but that is not a quick/easy process. Currently using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5 (6533.21.1)

I've had Snow Leopard since launch. I want to do a fresh install, and then copy the files I want onto it from my external hard-drive. I have some questions though:
Will I have to redownload all the system updates that came out since Snow Leopard's launch? Is there a way around that?
Is there a way to save Safari's bookmarks?
If I want to keep a certain application, do I save the DMG or the installed icon onto the hard drive?
I copied the Pictures folder onto the hard-drive, which includes the 'iPhoto Library' file. Will this put my events back onto iPhoto?
How do I save address book contacts?
How do I save iTunes playlists/play counts/library etc?
Maybe there's an easier way of doing a fresh install while still being able to select these things to keep?

My Mac has been having some issues with "Kernel Panics" and after taking it to the Apple store and them finding nothing wrong with it while doing their tests, their advice was to just do a clean install without using the "migration helper" feature. I already know how to move over my music files, documents, etc. However, I have a ton of bookmarks saved and I'd hate to hate to build my bookmarks from scratch after doing a clean install of OS X. How can I save my bookmarks?

I find it incredibly useful in Firefox but I'm training myself to really get used to using Safari as my main browser. On a personal note, I'm glad I have a shaved head because I would've pulled out all of my hairs by now, trying to find this online. Searched everywhere. On here, Apple Support forums, Google, YouTube, you name it.

I am on a MacBook (OS 10.5.8) running Safari (4.0.3). All of a sudden I have noticed that when I try to set a new bookmark, it appears in the folder on the bookmark menu bar, until I shut down and then it disappears. However, when you go through the Bookmark Bar, through the open book icon, the bookmark is there.
I tried exporting the bookmark.plst and then deleting it from finder and trying to import them back. This resulted in the bookmarks appearing to be there, until I shut down safari. When I restarted, I was left with the default bookmarks. I then tried to restore Safari from a back up a month ago and one 6 months ago. This got me my old bookmarks back, but didn't solve the problem of the disappearing bookmarks.
I'm not sure how uninstalling safari and reinstalling.

Was autonotified that 2 updates were available: Safari 1.5.1 and iTunes. After the installation, all my Safari bookmarks, bookmark menu, bookmark bar are gone and reset to what looks like a default list. I am running the latest LION release/version... Â
I know I can back up from my Time Machine by going to ~/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist and restore.. however I can not locate the file?Â
I know that ~/Libray is hidden so I went to Finder and pressed option GO and library displayed... I then opened TIme Machine and attempted to find the bookmarks.plist under Safari on an older backed up copy and the file was not there..

I have way too many Safari bookmarks including many redundancies. I need to do a wholesale reorganization of my Safari bookmarks.
I recently started using Dragon Drop which brilliantly facilitates moving Finder files and folders around tremendously, espcially since I started using a trackpad and find it least useful for any dragging chores. But I just discivered that while Dragon Drop can be used for moving bookmarks, it only moves copies and leaves the original where it started, which is less than helpful in expediting the reorganization task.
But the task facing my Bookmarks reorganization is closest to a reorganization of my finder.
Wait a second! I just found that I can have two bookmarks windows open at the same time on two different Safari screens on my two-screen desktop setup and drag and drop between the two screens as a way to facilitate bookmark reorganizaton.
