If i download a movie through itunes can i throw it onto a usb flash drive and then take it and play it on various other computers / xbox? or does it have DRM restrictions that force it to only play on the computer i download it onto?
Where in iTunes can I redownload a purchased movie in HD

I'm trying to download the BK Burger Shots commercial so that I can take it into final cut or imovie and make some additions to it for fun. I can only find it on youtube (in awful quality) and on a site called Adland - that one is better quality, but it only plays embedded into the site. Is there anyway I can take this video from the site to my hard drive? Or does anyone know a good site that may have this video available for download?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to play movies stored on one computer's HD on its screen, but controlled from a different computer. Here goes: So I have one computer, A, with its own display. I have another computer, B, on which I have logged on to A via ssh. If I have set A in advance to have, say, Windows Media Player open at "Full Screen," when I type on B's terminal prompt open moviename.wmv, a file on the HD of A, it begins playing in full screen on A. If I do not have Windows Media Player open at all, it will open at a default size which is less than full screen. My questions: - from B, with the open command or something else (maybe using x11), can I set at what size the new window will open up on A? - besides kill to stop the movie, is there a way to pause it or otherwise control the movie playing on A, from B? - what video player would work for this best (QT, VLC, etc.), or is there some shareware that handles similar setups? I am obviously a command-line newbie, so sorry if I missed something obvious. I feel like there is some very simple way to do this, and I am just overlooking it for lack of familiarity.
View 16 Replies View RelatedThere used to be a time when playing movies was even visible when minimizing in the dock. You could see the small thumbnail playing. But that isn't the case anymore since Tiger, Leopard? What happened? Nowadays the machines are even faster than back then when it used to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know there are tons of threads on various ways to get one's iMac playing hi-def movies, but the purpose of this thread is to sort out which way is best. I'm getting an iMac soon and want to be ready. The way I see it, I basically have three options (only two of which I know to work for sure). 1. Get external blu-ray drive, buy a copy of windows, buy the windows BD software (powerdvd or whatever). I think I can get a BD-ROM for like $150 or so, what is the cheapest option for purchasing windows? Powerdvd? Pros- plays right off disk, will have windows and all the extras that it entails (gaming, etc... I would to get down on some half-life again). Cons- buying all the software seems expensive, less than elegant process everytime I watch something 2. Buy an external BD drive, rip the disks to my harddrive, play in plex. Pros- all native, uses plex (which I plan to use anyway), least to buy, no disks to deal with once everything is ripped Cons- ripping and encoding take lots of time, storage becomes an issue 3- (don't know if this works) buy an eyetv and a blu-ray player (not drive) and use my iMac like a tv. Pros- get added benefits of eyetv (I am more of a tv watcher than movies), setup would work if I ever upgrade to an HDTV, as elegant as watching on a tv Cons- might not work? Not integrated with computer, on expensive side. So what do you guys think, keeping in mind that I'm a tv guy, not a movie guy.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is the correct forum to look for help in, but it seemed the most fitting. If anybody is familiar with VLC I would appreciate your help. Today I tried to open up a movie I downloaded last night. Yesterday movies were playing fine in VLC, today, nothing plays, and it stops responding when I try to close it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the past few days I have downloaded some movies through iTunes, some through iTunes purchases and some by entering the digital copy codes that came with DVDs/Blu-rays. When I try to sync these items with my iPad, I get a message that they cannot be synced. When I try to create an iPad version through the advanced menu, I get a message that they cannot be found. When I try to watch them on my MacBook using iTunes, I get a message that the movie requires QuickTime, which is not compatible with this version of iTunes.
How can I get these items to play and sync? They work if I open iTunes in 32-bit mode, but this is an annoying workaround. Plus, the iTunes support article says this is only necessary for "older media files" -- these are not old media; I just downloaded them. What is Apple doing selling files that are incompatible with its current version of iTunes? If I had known I had to go through such trouble to get them to play, I probably would not have bought them in the first place.

I always read posts of people who ask whether to get an Apple TV or Mac Mini to use as an entertainment hub. I just got a 2 ghz C2D Mini for free. I was excited because now I can put it in my closet and have it on at all times to stream to my Apple TV (Currently stream from iMac). But then I thought about it, what if I just plug the Mac Mini into the TV directly and play my content directly through it? 1. Apple TV has been great, silent, I don't hear any fans, and plays iTunes bought HD content without any problem. Can the Mac Mini handle this in the same way, and as silently? I plan on using a DVI to HDMI cable. 2. If I do use the Mac Mini, I also plan on getting rid of my DVD player, which is also silent when it plays DVDs. How quiet is the Mac Mini when it plays DVD movies? I don't need it to be silent, but I just don't want to hear it when I'm watching a movie. (I know I can try this myself, but I still haven't gotten the required cables and peripherals to try it now) 3. Based on all of the suggestions people here make when comparing Apple TV to Mac Mini is that the Apple TV is half the price. In my case, I was fortunate to have a Mac Mini land in my hands for free and I plan on either using it as a media streaming hub or plug it directly to replace the Apple TV. In this case, since money isn't an issue, which is a better option?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've just been trying to play Dark Knight in HD through iTunes and there is some lag, like the playback stutters (sound is fine, video stutters). How can I remedy this? Surely the Macbook is capable of playing HD without this lag? I've got a 2.4ghz Aluminum Macbook with 4GB RAM and I'm watching the movie on an LED Cinema Display. I was playing the movie through iTunes with no other programs on, and I'd just logged in to my account (although had not restarted the Notebook for several hours).
View 19 Replies View RelatedOdd question here, but sure there's others in the same situation. I've got about 20 MP4 video files which are stored in iTunes, ready for playback through there or on my iPhone. Most of them were ripped from my DVD's using Handbrake. Then, I've also got a load of AVI's and DIVX movies that were downloaded from various places, which iTunes doesn't support and thus won't let me add to my library. So, my question is, can anyone recommend a decent bit of software that I can use to centrally store/catalog (and maybe even use to play) all of my movies, even if it means removing the MP4's from my iTunes library?

I ripped a DVD I have in my collection into my Mac using hardbrake 32 bit. I have 64 bit but supposedly for some reason it needed VLC 64 bit which apparently doesnt exist or something so I downloaded the 32 bit version. when ripping i had 2 choices mpeg4 and encoding .264 or ffemp or whatever it is.. and .mkv and the same choice of encoding. When I try ripping with the mkv the quality comes out rubbish like pixelated boxes and what not totally not watchable. 2 DVDs same thing. so I deleted those and I used the mv4. I dont rem now what option that was but there were only 2 so anyways then it comes out ok. but then when i try to play it. like i do with my downloaded stuff (which i use movist- no problems) i get hiccups stops whatever u call those. i have to close everything i am running i.e transmission etc before it would play smoothly this is kind of weird i even switched it to high performance. also some websites i save the user name password saved but i must have did something and for that particular site it does nott have nor does it ask me to save anymore so how do i get it to prompt me again?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've copied all of my dvd's using Handbrake to my portable harddrive. For some reason some of the movies when I click on them wont let me skip to different scenes. It's like you have to watch the whole movie or let the movie load for 30 minutes completely to then skip to the scene you want. Does anyone know why some movies will let me skip to any scene and then others will make me wait for it to completely load? I don't know if this makes sense or not but thanks for the help.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro is connected to my TV through the DVI port. There is a side-by-side arrangement, not mirror displays. Everything is working perfectly, sound and video. Â Sometimes I try to use VLC to play a movie on the TV screen, while I do work on my Macbook screen. Many times it will easily work, no problem. But sometimes, when the movie opens up I cannot get it to move into the external screen. But ONLY the VLC movie will have this problem (sometimes iTunes too). All other applications will move into the external screen fine, but the VLC movie will not go past the boundary of my Macbook screen. I am using VLC as opposed to other applications because some of the movie files can only be recognized by VLC.Â

I have a movie that has the quicktime logo on the icon in finder. is there any way to watch it with VLC?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I updated my System to OS X 10.6.3, which included a Quicktime update
After updating I can't play certain mp4 movies anymore with my Quicktime X Player: I can hear audio but I don't see video.
What is so strange about it that until today I was able to view them without any problems.
I still can watch them with VLC player.
When I click on file info, I see these codecs: AAC, H.264, MPEG-4 SDSM, MPEG-4 ODSM
How can I solve this problem? I am using OS X 10.6
I am unable to view an AVI video from a Nikon camera in Quick time or Adobe LR 4. Both are current.

Cant seem to find any topics on AI about this, but there is on the apple discussion boards. I have the new mac mini connected to an old plasma. I tried to watch a rented movie (through iTunes) but all I get is a black screen and no sound. It downloads ok and has all the chapters etc.... but just wont show any picture or sound when I play it. Things I have tried:
1. reinstalled Quicktime
2. installed lastest firmware
3. purchased a song to confirm my computer is authorized
The movie was in SD, from what I have read the problem only occurs with HD, but not for me.
