I was able to turn my mac into a wi-fi supplyer. I am not able to anymore. Before I would go under sharing (system preferemces) and choose internet from the tabs. The tabs no longer appear.

MY wi-fi will not turn on. It was functioning just fine when I shut down, now it will not turn on, the system status is "off" and when the button is selected to turn Wi-Fi on it will highlight but not respond. The Network Diagnostic requests the Wi-Fi to be turned on when the box is checked the Wi-Fi still remains off. The Network Diagnostic then runs continuously.

Every time I switch on my Macbook Air, or wake it up from sleep, I lose my wifi connection. If I restart my wifi router, the signal comes back, but once my Macbook Air goes to sleep, I always need to erstart my wifi router again. This is the process I go through several times each day:Â
(Wifi router is on.)
1. Turn on Macbook Air. It recognises my wifi network but has no internet connection.
2. Restart my wifi router.
3. After a few minutes, I get an internet connection on my Macbook Air.Â
Previous laptops and desktops have not had this problem. Do I need to change any settings in my Macbook Air? I'd be grateful for any help.Â
I have a 2010 Macbook Air (bought second hand) running OS 10.6.8. I am using a D-link wifi router. Â

I used to have a problem with my late-2006 13" white MacBook where, if I opened up a bunch of Safari tabs/windows at a time, or a bunch too quickly, or was downloading podcasts with iTunes and opened up another internet-dependent app?my wireless connection would drop. I would still see the full signal strength in the menu bar (all four "bars" of that rounded signal monitor), but the Up and Down activity would drop to 0.
The only way to re-start the connection was to click on the signal monitor, select Turn Airport Off, and then just select Turn Airport (back) On. Only then, would the connection come back on. This was a pain, especially if I was in the middle of a big download, as I usually had to restart the whole download..................
I have a macbook pro 15" retina. I am a photographer and have to upload images at the end of every day. I noticed that the internet speed was flucuating a lot. From like 3 mbps to 30 mbps. I thought it was the internet service at first, but then noticed if I turned off the wifi on my macbook, then turned it back on, I would get a full strong signal. It would then start to slow down again to a crawl. Is it the macbook or maybe a Apple Express Airport update?Â

I am seriously considering purchasing one of the new unibody MBP's with the new "7 hour" battery. Just a couple quick questions for you all: Do you get 7 hours when you turn wifi off, the screen down to 1/3 brightness, don't use the CD drive/etc, or does it actually last 6-7 hours in normal use (surfing web, screen really bright, backlit keyboard on)? Has anyone experienced a degradation in battery life after a bunch of cycles? I notice apple claims that the new battery will last 5 years, yet they don't warranty it for more than a year. That does not sound good to me. Opinions?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with wifi on my Macbook Air 4,2 and I wanted to try turning off IPv6. However, when I go to network settings to do so, the option to turn it off is not there. I've included a screenshot to show you what I see when I go to network settings. I don't know why this option would have disappeared. Is there a program that could have disabled this? Â

Since I updated my Macbook pro to 10.7.4 my Wi-Fi connection is dropping out every 10 / 15 minutes, then I disable and enable and back to normal, a thousand times each day since last Saturday, it is boring!
I called Apple Support today, and we spent all morning trying to correct with some procedures, but nothing worked.
I am a freelance video producer and I am trying to take video screen shots for a tutorial. However, when I begin typing anything in for a URL, Safari lists not only frequent sites I visit, but also my current history. I have tried using "private browsing" but it still continues to list everything I've been to once I type "www", which doesn't make any sense. Is there any option to disable it, or do I have to back to using Chrome?

I came across a computer that had something like a "DVD MOVIE" file.
It was basically vob files packaged inside a "DVD MOVIE" so when you clicked on it, it would play like a dvd movie. I have extracted some VOB files from a DVD disc to have a "VIDEO_TS" folder containing the movie, but of course I can only play the VOB files in a program like VLC...my question is - What do i need to do to put these vob files into this "DVD FILE" folder or whatever so i can just click on it and it play a normal dvd? It may have said "Movie file"..
The threading option is making mail difficult to use, I have looked everywhere and can't figure out how to disable it, I am running lion.

It seems that since 10.7.3, the "Resume" "FEATURE" now does not obey the setting the General Control Panel (I have Resoter windows when quitting and re-openning apps un checked). Â I have an app that is causing the system to hang, but when I send shutdown -h now as root from the terminal and then restart the machine, ALL the applicatinos and their windows reopen, no matter what I do, including the one that is hanging. View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a new MacBook Air a couple months ago, and transferred the data and settings from my old MBA. Ever since then, it has entered 'single-app-mode' which can't be turned off. I have tried (in Terminal): defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool falsekillall Dock To no avail. No matter what, it stays in single app mode. This is making my MBA virtually unusable. I can't drag and drop between apps, I can't see the iOS simulator and XCode at the same time when debugging, I can't even reference a document while writing an email, unless I print it. It's absolutely terrible. To make the problem even more annoying, when clicking an icon in the Dock to switch apps (really the only way other than command-tab) it doesn't open the last window used. e.g. If I have three Safari windows open, and I switch from email back to Safari, it will open the least recent window, so I have to hunt for the window that was open last. Every single time! If I log in as a different user, the problem doesn't exist, so it's definitely a configuration issue. I do notice, when I use 'defaults read com.apple.dock' that "single-app" is listed in quotes, while other settings are not:
[code]...

I just plugged in a 2nd LCD monitor via the thunderbolt connection and used a mini display adapter. I was just wondering how I can turn it off without unplugging it. I googled and came across an app called 'switchX' but I'd rather not install another app.

The Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting (all networks), although they continue to be available on my iPhone, Mac Book Air (OS X Lion 10.7.3) and another PC. I have to reselect the network manually in the shortcut (top right of the screen), a few seconds later I am connected again. The problems seems to be related to inactivety on the iMac. For example if you are reading some pages, without any key strokes or mouse activity, but there does not seem to be any specific time for repeatability of the problem. It is just anoying. I stupidly downloaded and used ccleaner from the appetite and since using it my MacBook will let me use the internet even though wifi appears connected. I plugged in a cable from the router yet still no internet.
