View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to OS 10.7 and now can't find my Time Capsule under devices to access individual files stored on it. The system is recognizing it under time machine and is doing full backups to it, but only the backup portion is accessible through Finder. How do I get back to where I can pull up the contents of the Time Capsule on an individual basis?

Due to many reasons, I wish to select multiple Finder lines for moving, deleting, etc.How can I select more than one at a time?

For some reason in the default view (icon) in Finder I can't select multiple files when I click one, hold down the shift key and click a file farther down in the list. In Windows this would select all the files between the first and the second including both. In OSX 10.7.3 it only selects the first file and the second file as if I held down the Command key.
One of my friends who uses 10.6.x says it works as expected on his machine --- any idea what my issue might be? It's not because of the recent update since it did the same thing in 10.7.2 (not sure if it did it on the default 10.7.0 install my iMac came with as I updated before I used it for the first time).

I have tried using the migration assistant. It will not go beyond my selecting a migration method - From another Mac. Nor am I able to use the system preferences file sharing options outlined on apple support. I am not permitted to select the internet sharing as instructed in step 3 (in issues with migration section)... so cannot proceed from there. Using the target option to transfer files isn't working either.

When I installed Lion to my current macbook pro I didn't relise there was a new timevault. I am unable to disable the legacy version as more disc space than I have available is required. Will I be able to start fresh WITHOUT timevault when I migrate to my new Air? Or will the legacy timevault transfer.

yesterday I moved all my files from my old MacBook Pro running SL to my new MBP 15,4. I used migration assistant and my time machine backup, that I had updated minutes before. Now I realized that some folders were not copied. Do you know where I can find a log regarding the moving process, so I can check which files were not moved?

I just used Migration Assistant to move my files from my iMac to my new Macbook Pro. I didn't know about the Filevault problem so when I tried logging in, I got the error message and I am unable to login to my account (the only one on the computer). The support page says to make a root user, but how can I do that when I can't even log in to my account. I dont have a disc copy of Lion I can use to start up with, only a copy of 10.6.

Refurbished MacBook Air. Three attempts to use migration assistant to move files from MacBook to my newly acquired Air. Migration Assistant works fine until minutes to go and then "hangs" have left it connected for hours with "less than "X" minutes to go" and no files get transferred. On my third attempt this time without transferring applicaitons.

I've downloaded a Linux Distro known as a Live DVD in ISO format. I want to burn this to a DVD for future use but would like to change what is in the ISO before burning. There are several files that I would like included so I won't have to have a second CD/DVD later.
DiskImageMounter does a great job of opening the ISO but it is readonly. If I copy the files to a directory, make my changes and then burn the DVD, the disk isn't bootable. And I am at a loss about how to continue. Can I burn individual files to a DVD and specify that the DVD will be bootable? Is there a software tool that will take the individual files and folders, and make a new ISO file that would be bootable?
I guess you can see where I am going. When I google for it, I find results for creating a backup of the Leopard install DVD.
I imported my photo collection into iPhoto. I wanted to know if there was a way I could make changes i.e. enhance function on the photos and then do a "save as" to another individual file as opposed to saving it in the main, big iphoto file. I couldn't find a way to do that through iPhoto.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI keep my iTunes Media folder on my external drive, but I found that recently iTunes has put several of the albums I've ripped on my local drive (/Users/<me>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music, I assume that's the default location). Not sure why, though I know there was a time when my drive was inaccessible for some reason, so perhaps I ripped them then. Anyway, point is I want to move them to the external drive where the rest of my music lives. I tried just "moving" them in Finder, and I say "moving" because Finder doesn't really let me move but rather copies to the external drive. Which I think is part of the problem, since I then moved the local versions to the trash bin, from which they still played on iTunes. I guess iTunes (or MacOS in general) tracks where files move. Once I emptied the trash, though, iTunes claims it can't find them. Even though shiny new copies are right there in my iTunes media folder on the external drive.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHas anyone heard of some third party software used to help simplify the process of restoring or retrieving individual files via TIME MACHINE?
I have some trouble sorting out the navigation window, when it offers choices between KEEP BOTH or RESTORE ORIGINAL. I seem to end up not finding the earlier file. Then a friend said he had heard of software that simplifies this process. I've tried Forum search but no luck yet.
I have a Time Capsule at home, and can opt for the automatic backup via Time Machine program. But I have been doing manual backups, transferring files myself to Time Capsule and to an USB drive. It's mostly document, media files. If I backup using Time Machine, can I access those files individually? Or is it just going to be one big chunk of a file? Are there any trustworthy syncing programs between my computer and an external hard drive or in my case Time Capsule?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo two months ago my mac's internal hard disk had a problem, it was "ejecting" itself by itself. It was frozen. Problem: I was gonna do a backup the day it happened, so I didn't have a back up. I went to a centre of data recuperation. They managed to get a lot out of the internal hard disk and put it in a new external hard drive. Apple then replaced my SSD, and I restored (from the external hard drive) what had been recuperated back on my computer with a new SSD. Now I realise that a lot of things are missing - especially pictures- which is quite annoying. I do have a very old back up that I did with Time Machine on another external hard drive. My question is: how can I restore only the pictures from that back up? I can't go back on time machine because this is a new SSD, and I don't wanna restore everything from that back up as I have more data on my computer as it is now.

I have an old MacBook6,1 of 2009 (the white one), with a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory, 250GB of storage capability (100GB free), currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I'm trying to upgrade to Yosemite 10.10 (my hardware and software are both ok to do the upgrade, I checked it). The download from the appstore went ok, but when I launch the installation app and I am asked to select the volume in which I want to install the OS, I'm not able to select my "Macintosh HD" unity (the icon is light grey), and if I try to click on it anyway, a message appears: "Impossible to use this volume to start the computer" (actually my mac is in italian so I reported the translation of the original message: "Impossibile utilizzare questo disco per avviare il computer").Â
I found out that some people had the same problem with the installation of Lion (OS X Lion: il programma di installazione indica "Impossibile utilizzare questo disco per avviare il computer" - Supporto…), but all the proposed solutions rely on the possibility of accessing "recovery mode", a functionality that is not enabled in snow leopard 10.6.8. And the only solution that doesn't rely on this feature (you can find it at the same link reported above), requests a redimensioning of the partition assigned to "Macintosh HD", that in my case is the only one that I have (I don't have any bootcamp partition), and even if l do it, it doesn't work.Â

I am trying to load a clean valid copy of OSX on my older clamshell. It will take up to 10.3 and that is what I'm using. I keep getting this error " Startup Disc was unable to select the install CD as the startup disc" error (-2). This occurs after the software requests restart to start the process.

How do I go about doing this same thing in OS X? I've tried just about every combination of the shift, control, option, and apple key with clicking but nothing works.
