OS X V10.7 Lion :: Rosetta Stone Stalls When Opening?
Apr 6, 2012
I am running on OSX 10.7.3 on my iMac 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3. I recently logged in as the Root User to change my user name, following instructions on Apple's support site. Everything went fine and all files mapped over correctly. When I went to run my Rosetta Stone Totale, Adobe Air promted for an update, which I did. Now when I try to run Rosetta Stone it opens the first window, then stalls on the gray screen. Comand-Option-Escape does not say that the application is not responding.Â
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Air, but the problem persists. I saw a discussion in another thread about opening Console and seeing what errors were showing. When I did so, I get this every time I try to open RST: "4/6/12 12:07:03.737 PM RosettaStoneDaemon: This process is attempting to exclude an item from Time Machine by path without administrator privileges. This is not supported."Â
I use Rosetta Stone v2 in my macbook laptop. This software requires that the language cd be inserted in the optical drive. Without the cd inserted if will not work (anti piracy?) . My macbook optical drive recently broke. It ejects everything that is inserted. Question: Is there to install the language files in the macbook (disk image?) so that Rosetta Stone thinks that the cd is inserted? I tried to copy the files into a flash drive but got a dialog box saying that some files could not by copied. I rarely use the optical drive and don't want to repair/replace it just for this program.
When I open RS, it says "error 1117, and error has occurred in the speech component" and then says something about restarting the program.
Error 1117 apparently means that the program won't communicate with my computer, even though I don't operate a personal firewall. It can't detect the USB headset, so the headset cannot be used.
I've looked all over the place for the answer, but there's only a solution for PC users. What can I do about this?
i'm using a macbook pro9. osX Tiger 10.4.11 i started using rosetta stone's typing feature about half an hour ago. Now my top row and my number row are not working properly.
Her's what comes out
q1 w2 e3 r4 t5 y6 u7 i8 o9 for the keys q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i,o as well as the 1-9 keys.
I was using Rosetta Stone without a problem for over a month. Now when i try to start it up it freezes with the screen saying "Installing Updates". In the Console I get this message
"Rosetta Stone[73642] Warning once: This application, or a library it uses, is using
NSQuickDrawView, which has been deprecated. Apps should cease use of QuickDraw and move to Quartz."
I tried to repair permissions but it changed nothing.
just bought a new MacBook Pro, and I have my 3 kids' profiles on Rosetta Stone on my old iMac that I'd hate to lose. Has anyone found a way to move profile data/progress? My Google Fu has let me down.
I have a hard time with skype conversation and rosetta stone speech recognition. Since I started using Rosetta Stone 3.4.5, People i'm talking with on skype complains that they don't hear me well, everything was fine untill I installed this software. The microphone doesn't emit as much volume as it should be and I believe rosetta stone is responsible for the differences in output volume.Â
I tested the microphone in garage band and I don't hear my voice normaly unless I start shouting out loud.Â
Or maybe the built-in microphone is too old and it's not working as good as it was before ?Â
My macbook is running on MAC OSX 10.6.8 Processor: 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 duo Memory: 4 go 1067 MHz DDR 3Â
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Skype, Rosetta Stone
I'm trying to install my Rosetta Stone v3 Application CD that worked on my old macbook to my brand new macbook intel core i7 and receive:Â Fatal Application Error #2111 Error #2032 Exit the Application?
On my MacBookPro, 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1.5 GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.11, all rosetta emulated applications as Apple Works 6, Toast 6, Microsoft Office 2004, PhotoshopElements 3 and so on, suddenly have stopped working. A short flash of the program symbols ist all I get when I try starting one of them. Everything has been fine for the last three years! Before that, I noticed that I could not install the Security Update 2008-007 Intel, no matter if by software update or manually (for the download version I get only an error notice that the checksum failed, when I try to activate the .dmg). Other Apple software updates were installed without any problems. How can I repair or reinstall Rosetta (obviously has to do with that, or not?) without a complete reinstall of Mac OS X 10.4.???
I'm trying to access one of my ice hockey sites but firefox and safari fail to connect. The site is [URL] Firefox stalls waiting for [URL] I can get to [URL]. Can other MAC users access the site? I did have a trial of little snitch, but removed it with the uninstall, no problems with any other sites.
I have a 2009 MacPro with an OS/apps main drive, and internal Data drive, and Firewire external backup drive. Time Machine points to the backup drive (partitioned for main and data), and SuperDuper clone/copies to it at night. At occasional and upredictable times, while I'm working, the backup drive spins up. The Mac Pro waits. The TimeMachine icon is not turning. Not sure why this happens, but its very frustrating since I have to stop and wait for the Apple 'pinwheel' to stop before I can continue what I was doing, or typing.
I'm new here to this forum and I'd like to get some advice. I've had my 2008 macbook 2.4ghz-160gb since august of last year. I upgraded it to 4gb of ram in the early stages and had no issues till lately.
For the last week, almost daily, Id get the beachball for a long period of time. This happens most frequently when I surf the internet. Occasionally this may occur when i play music in itunes but that is probably due to my library being store on an external hd. With that being said though, as I mentioned, it most likely occurs when I surf the internet. Many times, its not just a browser crash but a system wide crash where my mouse can move but when i click anything in the background, it would have no effect (but my mouse can move still). Only way to 'resolve' this was to do a hard shutdown and restart by holding the power button for few seconds. Of course, this issue keeps happening and it pissed me off so I looked around the net to find some possible solutions and many sites claimed flash being an issue. I uninstalled flash and retested and the problem still occurred. Reading maclife, it mentioned about some fsck -fy thing during boot up so i ran that test and found no errors. Restarted again, did some surfing and still the problem.
My husband's mac book started acting weird while I was out own town. He was unable to get it to start up, but eventually did, backed up his important data, and then I had him attempt to verify and repair permissions. I guess it indicated there were errors but could not fix them. Once again, his macbook stalls at start up and will not get past the gray screen with the apple and the wheel. Last night at this point it kernel panicked.
Today (since I'm back now) I tried to boot it in safe mode, and it still hangs. I zapped the PRAM, and that didn't help. My next step is to try and boot from his install discs, when he finds them. My question is, should I bother trying to verify and repair, or should I just do an archive & install (if possible) or an erase and install (if necessary)? This is a mac book from 06-ish running 10.4.? My hubby claims to not have installed or updated anything recently.
I've been trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on my girlfriend's computer, it's a 13" MBP, 4 GB, 2.4 GHz (mid-2010, 4 weeks old). I got through the installation without a hitch, got to the desktop, installed the Snow Leopard drivers, restarted... and then it froze after I typed in the password (the cursor circle froze, keyboard-trackpad unresponsive). I cleared the Bootcamp partition in OSX, repartitioned, and reinstalled again - this time without a password. It got to the desktop, and then after a few seconds the keyboard and trackpad became unresponsive again. This happens only when I install the SL drivers, upon restart. Now, I've tried reinstalling W7 a few times. I reformatted the whole disc, reinstalled SL... and still the same problem. I'm using a Windows 7 ISO from my university, the same ISO/Disc that I used to successfully install Windows 7 on my MBP.
I have since downloaded it twice, and burned the ISO three separate times, at 2.4x using Disc Utility. I've seen two similar instances discussed on other threads, but they were either adjacent to the main thread discussion (and unresolved), or just unresolved. In the installations that I've run since the initial few, I have run into issues that seem common (stalling when copying system files, etc.) I have since reformatted the whole disc, and those problems haven't arisen since. Also, I have successfully installed Windows XP from a university ISO on her computer. But she really needs Windows 7 64 bit... sorry for the long post, trying to be detailed. I updated SL before partitioning, and it's Bootcamp 3.1 (build 2328)
I recently downloaded some updates onto my MacBook Air, including the latest version of Adobe Flash. Computer stalls whenever I try to install Flash and also when I open Firefox and sometimes in Safari.
Mbp had a kernel error and would not boot so I took it to Apple store and they said it needed new harddrive. I installed a new hard drive and 8gb of ram while i was at it.When trying to install the OS on the new hd, it would stall at random points every time, so I made another appointment at the Apple store. The morning of my appointment I managed to get the OS to install but then it froze in the setup stage so I went ahead and went to my appointment. This time they suggested it was the hd cable, so I got that replaced and the mbp was working fine when the guy brought it back out to me.When i got home i tried to install Snow Leapord, it froze, and now I cant do anything. Now when it boots I get the apple logo screen with a loading circle underneath for about 1 minute, and then it goes to alternating between blue screens, one with a loading circle and one without.I've tried all the basic bs stuff and nothing has changed?
I've just bought my first mac and loving it except one major problem. I'm using it as a media centre to play music, photos, movies etc and most importantly to watch catch up tv. Unfortunately I can't watch bbc iplayer, itv or channel four on demand. Each time I load a video it simply stalls at the beginning (except itv which just rotates through adverts). Now, I'm sure you need some info. I've installed the latest version of flash and it seems to be working, I'm using safari and this is a mac os x 10.5.8. I've been trying to fix it for over 3 hours now and I'm losing the lot.
I have a love/hate relationship with Safari right now. I love the actual browser, I hate the fact it won't allow me to download a thing. I'm not talking about downloading from illegal sites or going through any page redirects, I cannot download a thing at all. My page goes to a blackish screen and stops or it just stalls, flashes once and nothing happens.
Here's what I've checked for:
1). No, I don't have Speed Download installed or a plug-in/filter for it. 2). I don't have a com.apple.safari.plist file or even a safari folder in Application Support. 3). I'm running Lion 10.7.3 and Safari 5.1 currently.
I've even uninstalled/reinstalled Safari with no luck. What the heck is going on with Safari???

Am I understanding correctly (from reading some other discussions here) that there are issues with Time Machine back ups and Yosemite, and that it's not just me having these problems? Since I upgrade I am having major issues with wifi connection being dropped and my Time Machine hasn't performed a back up in 19 days. It looks as though it will but stalls at "preparing back up". When it finally stops I get an error message saying it can't find the disc. I've restored the Time Machine to factory settings and started over more than once but still get the same message. Am I doing something wrong or is this an Apple issue?
I got my Mac Pro halway through 2012 and recently it's been really slow but what really annoys me is when it glitches and stalls when I try to watch a movie on VLC or iTunes how can I fix this?????
OK lame fear - but I fear Quicken will NOT work on Snow leopard (please this is a not I hate quicken thread so don't ask why I cling to it) -
However recently I saw some random text saying that it will work but Rosetta must be installed with 10.6 - I thought Rosetta was just a natural part of the OS 10.5 and is 'just there'- now it is an option? ???
First question does 10.6 support really support Rosetta?
Second question: does anyone know how this will be installed on a fresh 10.6 install (going to buy a New HD just for this install in Sept)?
This morning I woke to a spinning disk icon on my 2007 Mac Pro. I've restarted it several times but can't get past that part. Also of note is that is the graphics displaying the spinning disk icon is broken up as if the video drivers aren't properly installed. I don't have a second Mac to run a diagnostic. I'm down to my iPhone 4 for Internet resources.
