Jun 28, 2012I'm running 10.6.5 on my Mid 2010 15" MBP. I was also a MobileMe user.
Now I'm thinking about upgrading to Mountain Lion upon it's release, and have questions to help me decide if I want to use iCloud or not.
1) I have zero interest in Lion and want to skip it, going directly to Mountain Lion. Can this be done?
2) If I choose to use iCloud, during setup, one is given a list of checkboxes for the items they want to sync. One checkbox is labeled "documents & data".
Once this box is checked and a sycn is executed, what specific files are uploaded from my MacBook Pro?
Do I have control over what goes up into iCloud? Initially my iCloud usage would be mostly data files, I would want to choose which files go to the cloud and which files remain on my hard drive. Is this possible?
The amount of control over what goes into the cloud is my main concern. If I have total control, then iCloud will be great. If not then I will use another solution.

Jun 18, 2012I am using Snow Leopard but am trying to upgrade to Lion. I went to the App store, clicked on Buy Lion, put in apple id, confirmed my billing info and clicked on Done. Nothing happened but it went back to the OS Lion page and the little gear wheel at the top of the page has been spinning ever since, been at least 15 minutes now. Is it downloading or is the wheel just spinning and I am wasting my time? I knew it would take some time to download, but I does that spinning wheel mean that is taking place?

Apr 12, 2012I have Snow Leopard installed on a partition on a Firewire HD, back when my MacBook Pro was also running SN. Since then I have upgraded to Lion. I recently tried to boot from the SN partition on the FW HD, only to get the 3 beep error (which I discovered later means the Mac can't boot from an earlier version than the current OS it's running...)
So, I would now like to upgrade the Firewire HD version of OSX from Snow Leopard to Lion [keeping the user folder in place, with docs, apps etc], but the installer says it can't be done. Do I have to erase the partition and do a clean install? It's pretty annoying if I do!

Apr 13, 2012Currently I have an iMac 10.5.8 with an Intel Core 2 Duo and 2Go Ram. Since January I didn't had much system updates because my software is apparently too old ... And I am kind of paranoid about the Trojans that I might have because I use the old version plus Safari is getting blocked very often. So I decided to by first Snow Leopard and then Lion. The thing is that I live in Norway & I will have to use the Norwegian apple store to by those programs but my OS X is in French. So I was wondering if I will be able to choose my language or the whole system will be automatically in Norwegian? The second question is to know if it is difficult to upgrade? I am a Mac user because I don't have any clues about the computers and Mac is always working. I read some complaints from people who after installing Snow Leopard couldn't use properly their printers or other apps... Is there is something I (completely ignorant person) should be aware of before doing the upgrade?

Apr 25, 2012I received the Snow Leopard upgrade disc from Apple. The instructions read to simply upgrade to SL version 10.6.8 after running the installation disc, and then to purchase the Lion upgrade from the Mac App. However, this SL version seems to be 10.5.8, and none of the 10.6.8 or lower updates will work. I found a 10.6.1, but that won't install either. They all say that I need OS 10.6 and I can't find it. I have a 2009 iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Dec 23, 2010So my friend got me Snow Leopard for Christmas and I want to upgrade my mac from Leopard to this but is there a way to upgrade without doing a clean install? Mainly because right now I have no external HDD. Only just two 2GB USB Drives which I already used to backup my pictures and documents. But if something goes wrong during the installation is there a way to go back to Leopard?
