I just upgraded a Mac Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and now Safari doesn't open. I can double click the icon in the tray, and it 'bounces' like it opens, and the bar at the top of the screen says 'Safari', but no windows ever open..

I really need help with this; I've searched "iphoto won't open" and many other variations of that, but I haven't found anything the same as my situation. When I click the iPhoto icon on the dock, it bounces once... and then stops, without opening or doing anything else. It does the same if I open it through finder->applications. It's driving me crazy!! I have a MacBook with Tiger OS X 10.4.11, iPhoto 7.1.5 and NO tech experience.

Ive just done an archive and install on my computer today becuase my safari was like that and now my it works. Only problem now is itunes, ive tried uninstalling and deleting every itunes folder(no worries i backed it up)

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy iMAC is about 18 month old, and I had a software upgrade notification for my Safari browser.When I clicked on it to upload, a program from dll.ultimatesoft was seen on the screen, and asked me to approve and install. That message will not go away. The drop down box bounces up and down the screen. I re-booted, but it is locked. I tried typing in a different web address, and was semi-successful, till the ultimatesoft screen took over again in 60 seconds.

I'd just like to change the Snow Leopard mp3 icon (ugly and dark) back to the nicer, lighter, friendlier icon that was used before my upgrade. It must still be on the system because often when I load a new window with mp3's, the old icon is visible for a second and then changes to the ugly Snow Leopard icon. By the way: if you select an mp3 file in Snow Leopard and select the Info for it, you'll see the previous icon up at the top left of the Info window that opens.

When I log onto my MAIL icon it just bounces once and does not open. Same goes for Safari HOWEVER the Firefox, Excel, Word icons open. I have tried re-booting but no luck. As a back up I am using Entourage for my email but prefer to use MAIL, as well would like to use Safari again! What do I need to do to get these working again?

Adobe recommends downgrading from Safari 5.1.7 as this version will not open pdfs in Snow Leopard. Where can I find downloads of older (pre 5.1.7) versions of Safari? The apple site keeps forcing me to the download for the most recent 5.1.7 version.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm dealing with a crazy annoyance after upgrading to Snow Leopard - currently running 10.6.2. I have 2 duplicate, external, 1TB WestDig Drives. I have no problems accessing files from the Finder, but if I use Spotlight search or Smart Folders, the corresponding folders on the external drives never open on the first try. I always receive the message: The alias ??? can?t be opened because the original item can?t be found.
On the second try the folder opens fine. It seems that after my Snow Leopard upgrade every spotlight search on the external drive reveals "missing" folder aliases although the "aliases" appear as regular folder icons. I tried re-indexing spotlight but this did not solve the problem. External Drive volume in terminal:

when I first purchased my Macbook (around 5 months ago) Safari would load in 3 bounces or less. But now when I try to use it I have to wait around as it takes 20-27 bounces before it finally starts up and begins loading a home page. My OSX version is v10.5.6 Safari is v3.2.1 So far I have RSS set to never update and have used the "reset Safari" option in the main Safari menu. But sadly I'm seeing no results in start up speed increase.

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.
Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?

Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). I am curious about the system requirement of Snow Leopard. Since the performance and speed are better on SL, I think Snow Leopard will consume a little bit more resource of our macs., although I know Snow Leopard is just only the refinement of the software.

Can I "push"/ "force" Safari to open at login, to a specific page? Is this possible? I have been asked to get all client macs to open to the enterprise Intranet site at login so that news/service updates are put in front of the clients automatically...In WGM I can configure for users or Machines to open Safari at login, and it does this, but does not open the specified Homepage until they Command-n or click for New Window.Likewise if I sit at the client machine and configure Safari to run at login, again the application does activate, but needs client to call up a new page before Homepage shows.Â

My brother and parents have a Mac Mini each.
They have not the latest generation but the prior Intel generation -- that shipped with Leopard.
Being the family IT guy, last time I was in town I purchased the Snow Leopard retail DVD family pack upgrade and upgraded my parents machines to Snow Leopard. I couldn't upgrade my brother's mini because he had it away at school.
Now he is back at my parents house (as am I) and I was all set to upgrade his machine to Snow Leopard but I can't find the retail install disk I purchased.
However, I do have the Snow Leopard Mac Mini OSX install DVD that shipped with my recently purchased (latest generation) Mac Mini.
Question -- does anyone know if I could use this latest generation Snow Leopard Mac Mini system install DVD (the one that shipped with my mac Mini) to upgrade my brother's previous generation mac mini running Leopard to snow leopard.
Not looking to do a clean install but rather the upgrade.
Anyhow ever tried this? I obviously don't want to upgrade his previous generation machine with drivers, etc. for my latest generation --- rather JUST get his leopard upgraded to snow leopard.
I have mac mini (early 2009) running leopard and want to upgrade to snow leopard. I've bought a disk from a local store and when I try to install I get as far as 45 minutes to go when the installer reboots the computer and says it will continue to install after reboot. So it reboots kicks the disk out and reboots back into Leopard. The Apple site says it is probably a bad disk, so I got another one, still does the same. Apple also says it might be the dvd drive, I have no other issues with the drive, it installs the original leopard disks without problem, it reads video dvd's without problem, it verifies the snow disk as perfect.
