I need a free converter that will convert a WMV file into a file that iMovie will recognize. Also, an application that won't leave a watermark on the video.

I am ready to do more heavy duty resource demanding things that my trusty but aged G4 Powerbook can't handle too well. One of them is video conversion. I have a huge database and collection of avi files that I need to convert to iPod format (I think that's MP4?). Can someone recommend a good program? Freeware, Shareware, Retail, anything to get my job done!

I have lots of documents maade over the years with AW 5 and AW 6. I would like now to upgrade to Lion but I understand that AW 5 documents can no longer be opened with Pages under Lion. Is there a script to automatically locate and convert all AW 5 and AW 6 on my HD to Pages and leave the converted doc in the same location as the original ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

View 11 Replies View RelatedMy brother and parents have a Mac Mini each.
They have not the latest generation but the prior Intel generation -- that shipped with Leopard.
Being the family IT guy, last time I was in town I purchased the Snow Leopard retail DVD family pack upgrade and upgraded my parents machines to Snow Leopard. I couldn't upgrade my brother's mini because he had it away at school.
Now he is back at my parents house (as am I) and I was all set to upgrade his machine to Snow Leopard but I can't find the retail install disk I purchased.
However, I do have the Snow Leopard Mac Mini OSX install DVD that shipped with my recently purchased (latest generation) Mac Mini.
Question -- does anyone know if I could use this latest generation Snow Leopard Mac Mini system install DVD (the one that shipped with my mac Mini) to upgrade my brother's previous generation mac mini running Leopard to snow leopard.
Not looking to do a clean install but rather the upgrade.
Anyhow ever tried this? I obviously don't want to upgrade his previous generation machine with drivers, etc. for my latest generation --- rather JUST get his leopard upgraded to snow leopard.
i have a 13" mbp (w/ a mini display port) and i want to hook it up my w/ flat screen.
why is it sooo hard to find a mini display to hdmi adapter/converter/cable ?
I know that there's already at least two threads on this, but one seems to be geared towards just one specific converter, and the other is almost 1000 posts long, so what I wanted to do here is to make a thread which is a comprehensive comparison between the available adapters.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI see that the Gefen DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter is on sale at MacMall for $82. See the link below. I'm wondering if anyone has used this for PC gaming? I've got a good gaming PC. I have a 24" ACD that I use with my MacBook Pro. I'm wondering if using this converter would be good with PC gaming. I understand the thing does active conversion since native is not possible between the two formats. Any chance this thing would slow down the signal and hinder PC gaming performance?

I want to run a hdmi signal over a long distance and was going to use a cat5 cable but can't find a mini displayport to cat5 converter or a hdmi to cat5 converter. I'm not sure this is even possible, but don't know why it wouldn't be because you can stream HD content over the internet using cat5. And a long cat5 cable is a lot cheaper than hdmi cables and extenders.

My 2008 mini has slowed down to a crawl so im thinking of installing a 120gb ssd into it and installing snow leopard (ive already maxed out the ram). My mini came with tiger with an update to leopard. If I want to install snow leopard do i need to install tiger, then upgrade to leopard and then snow leopard, or can i just install snow leopard immediately. I will be purchasing the 120gb ssd from OWC as well as snow leopard this week, so appreciate any help.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI bought a Mac Mini on ebay and it came with snow leopard already installed. Its been working great but today, i decided I want to swap the 80gb drive for the old 320gb drive from my laptop (the laptop got a shiny new SSD). Problem is, when i try to boot from the 10.6.2 install disc, it says that snow leopard cannot be installed on this Mac. Any way i can get it to install Snow Leopard on the new drive?
Also, I tried running the installer on the old HDD from inside the old Snow leopard install and it also said that it could not install snow leopard. It then asked me to restart and kept attempting to install Snow leopard and failing.
specs of Mac mini:
-Model Identifier: Macmini1,1
-Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz
-1Gb 667MHz DDR2 RAM
-4 USB ports
for the record, i think the guy i bought it from bought a new mac mini and just included the discs that came with the new one in the one he sold me. The instruction manual shows a mac mini with a mini display port. The only OSX disc i got from him was the snow leopard one. also, if it matters, this mac mini is the only mac computer that I own.
On my Intel mac mini (march 2009), it took about 2 hours to install Snow Leopard. The whole time the CD drive was making some weird noises too. Wonder if I somehow messed it up when upgrading the ram.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking about getting a Mini to use as an HTPC with a 42" Sharp Aquos LCD TV. if I connect the two using DVI to HDMI, will Snow Leopard detect that it's an HDTV and allow me to use the new 1080p setting without having to use SwitchRes X or DisplayConfigX? The 1080p setting works on my MBP when in extended desktop mode, but not in mirroring mode (because resolution is limited to the 1440x900 of my screen). I'm hoping that since the Mini has no display, 1080p setting will work out of the box. If someone could confirm that would be great.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been lurking for a while and on the fence about a new Mac Mini. Since I've given up on a Media Center PC with Blu Ray, I'm back to the Mac Mini. I've got two blu ray players and PS3, so I think we've got that covered! One of the things that I'd really like to have is maximum storage for the Mac Mini, since it will have the video and audio on there. The question is this. Is anyone out there running a Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard installed as a regular desktop machine? How does that work out? Is it worth it? I already have a very nice external Lacie double layer DVD burner, so the optical drive isn't necessary for me. Does the Mini Server with its 1TB of storage make sense? At $849 for a refurb at Apple.com, it seems pretty reasonable. Would love to hear thoughts from this crowd.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago I bought a slightly used Mac Mini on eBay. Everything was going well up until yesterday, when it froze up on me. I didn't think much of it, and tried starting it up again a few hours later, only to be greeted by the flashing question mark of death.
I did some reading online, and know that the flashing question mark basically means that there's either a problem with the OS installation or the hard drive itself. I borrowed a friend's Snow Leopard installation CD (mine didn't come with the CD) to try to boot from it, but it refuses to boot from the CD.
The only keyboard bootup control that does anything so far as I can tell is the alt key (using a windows keyboard), which results a long delay while booting, followed by a blank screen with a mouse cursor.
I have a late 2006 mini with only 512mb of memory. The specs for snow leoparg call for 1gb. I do have an Intel core 1.66.. I wanted to buy the box set. If not can I install more memory in this older computer?
