I accidentally took my downloads folder off of my dock, and I figured out how to put it back on and use the settings I want. However, for some reason now .mp4 files won't appear in the stack or in the actual folder in Finder. They appear in the Safari downloads box, but not in the stack or folder. It's kind of frustrating, because it makes it difficult for it to find what I need.

I was moving a folder (Beggs 5/12) from my desktop to my HD, and accidentally dropped it in the shaded area at the top of the HD when you are viewing your HD contents. I can't seem to remove it, only click on it to see contents.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to add my home folder to my dock from dragging it from the finder sidebar to the dock, but it wasnt draggable. It did drag, but it wouldnt stay in the dock, when I let go of the drag, it vanished in a puff of smoke. How do I get it back in the sidebar, it was pretty helpful over there. Just to be clear I'm talking about when I open a new finder window, I see a few folders under 'Places' --> Desktop, Applications, Documents and My name which is the home folder. Now all I see is Desktop, Applications, and documents. How do I get it back if possible, and when I do how do I put it on the dock? Next to apps and downloads folder? Nevermind I found out how to add it. CMD+, for finder prefs, and then sidebar. I still have no idea how to put the home folder on the dock now.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted the applications folder under my user directory. I made a duplicate from the hard drive directory and put it under user, but when I add new applications to one, it does not show up in the other like it used to. I guess I had a wrong idea of what duplicate does.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn my MacBook, when I delete a file in the Downloads folder, it says that it will go immediately and for some reason it doesn't go to Trash. On my iMac, the behaviour is as I expect, it goes to Trash and I can undo it. Is there a way to change it on the MacBook so it goes to Trash? I'm using 10.6.3.

I am a Mac beginner. There are 3 folders on the right hand side of the dock. Applications, Documents and Downloads. My download folder had disappeared, so I dragged one called My downloads from my documents, and it sits there ok, but it is shown as a white folder, instead of blue like the other two folders.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn order to save space on my MBP 2011 Snow Leopard, I deleted private/var/db folder, yes the whole folder to the trashbin and then I emptied it. Files that were in use weren´t deleted. So I rebooted and the screen is stuck on apple logo with the turning wheel and safe boot start normally but end up with the turning wheel too. Can I recover the files deleted ? Or at least put back the files that are still in the trash bin?

I accidentally removed the "Downloads" folder icon from my OS10 dock, and when I restored it there, it had changed to an icon of a PDF notebook. When opened, the stack shows only PDFs. What happened? How do I restore it to a regular Downloads folder in the dock?

I found another, dragged it on - now a Contact icon sits right on top of it so you cannot hardly see the Application file. How do I separate them? I deleted the other Contact icon, thinking that would do the trick, but no.

Emptied my trash and a vital folder in the dock is gone, with the questionmark icon on the folder now. I had not done anything I am aware of to m ove the contents of the folder to the trash. I do have a backup but it is a little more than 2 months old and I know there have been changes since then so recovered the folder is vital.

I can't open my downloads folder. It shows in Finder as a folder. When I click on it, terminal opens. That makes retrieving something from the folder quite tedius.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI went to make a copy of an important drive and accidentally re-formatted it (re-formatted mac journaled, originally mac journaled). The drive contained a bunch of important disk image files which I need to retrieve whole. I'm fairly confident that the files are still there and only the table information got overwritten, as the re-format took about 30 seconds. None of the recovery software I've seen however, can retrieve .dmg files, or such large files (these are up to 32 gb each in size).how I can retrieve these disk image files?
