My 10.6.8 is slowing down and quitting programs unexpectedly.

A while back I deleted a lot of my libraries and what I thought were unneeded files. Now a ton of programs are quitting: Adobe Reader, IMovie, Flipshare.I haven't tried anything else but I assume many more.Firefox and Office apps seem to be working fine though.I verified disk utilities and it came up with a bunch of stuff in the libraries.I repaired, and they still quit unexpectedly.

This week I have several programs that are quitting unexpectedly, or will not open all of a sudden. Photoshop CS, office 2004, and even the Appleworks programs. They all refuse to open. I uninstalled PS and the office products, and then tried to reinstall and couldn't even do that from the install disk. I did do a disk repair scan, but it said there was nothing wrong with the disk. And I'm getting some SymSecondary launch(whatever that is) failure as well.

My Safari keeps quitting unexpectedly and there is nothing I can attribute to the crashing. I have OS 10.5.8. I saw there is an update for 10.6 for flashback malware.

I completely rebuilt an old G4 Power Mac: Upgraded the system firmware. The problem is that applications like Itunes, Safari, etc, crash, they "Terminate Unexpectedly" after 5 mins or so. I have removed all PCI cards except the ATI Rage 128 Video card and it still happens. So, I have three thoughts:
1) The programs in 10.5 were written to run on Intel, and there is no hope.
2) Some piece of hardware in the G4 is causing the crashing.
3) The Rage 128 is the only original piece of hardware left....could the Rage firmware be causing the problem?
I don't have another MAC video card to try. Is there a way to upgrade the firmware in the Rage 128? I looked all over the net but could not find any.
People, recently Snow Leopard started to "reserve" CPU cycles capping CPU intensive applications rendering the App unusable. I don't know why this is happening and don't know how to debug this. I've attached a screenshot of this problem while I'm playing WoW. You can see CPU cycles going down. The game reached a point of unplayability.

It happens whether I'm using Safari 5.1.7 or Firefox 13.01. I haven't noticed it happening with any other open apps. It doesn't happen every time either.

I'm pretty new to the whole MacBook world as I only brought my unibody MacBook in November. Although I've found everything to me incredibly intuitive there are still some thing I need to learn, such as what to do when thing start slowing down. Recently I have noticing a few programs having some difficulties, my Logic studio has been having System overloads, my dashboard hasn't been popping up and my Safari is feeling slower. On windows their was a variety of thing I used to try stop this (virus scan were a staple) but I just have no idea where to start on my MacBook.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the forums, and if I am honest, I have only signed up because I am seriously starting to panic about the health of my Mac Book. Recently Mac OS X has been quitting unexpectedly, and I have no idea why. It just seems to happen randomly while I am surfing the internet, and it has only started happening since I bought my USB mobile internet dongle. What could be causing the problem? Do you think it is anything serious?
My Macbook is a white, early 2008 version, it is a 2.1 Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 gig of ram,
This is my first time posting here, and I don't really like signing up to forums but this is a crisis. My problem is, I cannot open any application whatsoever. I can only open up Firefox, but everything else just jumps around the dock for a second and the error message "the application ______ quit unexpectedly". So if you try to open it again, it just bounces around the dock and the error message appears again. I've uninstalled the apps, and installed them again...NOTHING.
This only started happening after I updated to the Security Update 2010-004 (1.0). I know for sure that's the culprit, but I don't know what to do. It's putting me through so much stress, I almost feel like crying. The worst part is, when I click system update, the system update itself jumps around the dock and disappears to only have that "the application _____ quit unexpectedly".
Having a bit of a problem with my mac was hoping someone could help me. Have a mac book with os.x 10.5.6 but every time I close over my mac and reopen it a black screen appears with the power symbol in grey saying that mac os.x has quit unexpectedly and for me to either hold down the power button for the restart or switch it off. It's very irritating cause of the annoyance of having to restart the whole computer every time I close it over. Has anyone any solutions or suggestions?

I'm on latest update of Snow Leopard and ever since I started working with mBOX (sound interface) and ProTools, my osx crashes frequently when quitting apps. My guess it's something to do with the sound card (the internal one). When I quit an app , the screen becomes green and it says in a couple of different languages that I have to turn off the computer by holding down the power button.
Then when I do that and then restart my computer, when booted it says 'You shut down the computer because of a problem'. In the report I always find that the problem layed with the app I quit.
It's not a particular app, I've had it with Quicktime, VLC, iTunes, LittleSnitch, SoundSource, Chrome, etc...
PS: I'm running on MacbookPro, 15" 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Mac OSX 10.6.2
When I click on the red cross button of Safari to stop it, the window vanishes. But the application remains in memory, so when I click again Safari shows up immediately. This is the normal behavior, iPhoto doesn't. I mean the lightening dot under the icon in the dock disappears. So is there a way to have iPhoto behave like Safari? I upgraded memory of my MBP and there is space enough to keep iPhoto and others in memory.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using iDVD V6.0.4 for a couple of years now and all of a sudden it won't open. I have tried opening every movie I have made with it with the same results.I have tried all of the recommendations in the help area but still get the same message. My question is this: would reinstalling only the software from the installation disk possibly solve this problem. I don't want to cause other problems with my mac by doing this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded my iTunes to version 10.6 on my MacBook Pro and have since been having issues. Evey time i open the application a error message pops up stating 'iTunes has unexpectedly quit' and gives me a error review. If i could avoid backing up my library and reintalling the software that would be pferefable.

Safari has been quitting unexpectedly every 30-45 minutes sighting a .NationalBiologicalCorp.png plug-in as the problem. It's been doing this for about a day and a half, and I've ran all the flashback trojan checks and it comes up with nothing.

I opened skype in safe mode and it was fine! but after that, when i exited safe mode, the error message that skype is quitting unexpectedly keeps showing up! ive tried everything - deleted the files in the skype folder, reinstalled skype but nothing works! I have an anti-virus installed on my mac so I've scanned skype and nothing seems to be infected really desperate now because I use Skype on a daily basis.Â

Random applications like Steam, Safari, or even games I've bought close unexpectedly at different times. Safari will close if I try to watch videos occasionally; Steam will close if I try to click on random games; and some games won't even launch, it will still say they "quit" unexpectedly.
View 3 Replies View Relatedso basically programs are quitting on me whenever it seems too much for the ram to handle, not sure if thats the case but certain webpages and programs work but when i go to craigslist or other sites, it lags while its thinking and then quits. also dashboard client quits every time i open it. when i watch videos at a completely unprompted time the video will just pause and the spinning coloured wheel will pop up and it will basically be frozen for about 30 seconds, this happens every 30min or so.
a week ago i had a problem where this lag occurred then eventually i could not load/start the mac at all but after very helpful tips from your techs i reinstalled osx while archiving all my files but there is still a definate issue.this is the link to that question if at all helpful[URL]have also freed up some HD space, i have over 30 gb's free, and before the dashboard crashes, my istat widget tells me i have around 2.5-3 gb's free of RAM so im not too sure what the problem is, maybe i should just wipe everything and start fresh? i dont really want to do this so if anyone has an idea, i would love to hear from you.
