View 7 RepliesA friend used the Kapersky Flashbackcheck.com site to check her MacBook running OS 10.5.8. The UID check indicated her computer was infected so she told me she downloaded and ran the first option that she presumes was the Flashback Removal software. After running it and restarting her computer the screen was blank. There wasnt even a menu bar. However the Skype login popped up and that ˜suddenly made a menu bar appear giving her access to the normal Skype menus, Apple Menu, spotlight etc. A bit of rummaging around indicates that all her files are still there it is just that the desktop doesnt launch (Finder problem maybe?) after multiple restarts.
I won't be able to actually get the computer for a week as she is a student and out of town presently.

I downloaded this from the site and installed it. I cant find it as an app to run it.
Is it an app I need to run, or is it installed and runs in the background? If thats the case how do i find it in the activity monitor to make sure its running?

I thought this trojan horse affected those who had Java (JRE) up and running i.e.,Safari security Java checkbox enabled. I also believed this Trojan horse also affected those using Snow Leopard. Clarify please.

I have the following question: I have checked my mac on flashback with flashback removal tool from Kaspersky. It detected (nd removed then) flashback although I have OS X.7. But every time I start the computer, the virus is detected by the removal tool again...However, all other anti-virus programmes are detecting no threat. i have also installed the malware removal app from apple. So I definitely do not understand why the Kaspersky tool is still detecting the virus.Â

My imac, running Leopard, has Flashback. Since Apple is not supporting this problem on OS X 10.5, how do I get rid of it? I have since disabled JAVA and have improved dramatically the IMac operation.

If 10.5 is up to date, is it vunerable to the Flashback.G Trojan that was reported on 2/24? All of the news items about this speak only of 10.6 or 10.7. They imply that if OS X is up to date, then there are no worries.Â

(30% of Macs run 10.5.8 or older, It should only be a matter of time before the Java fix is updated) Does anybody know when the update will be sent?

I understand that Apple want to forget older versions of the OS but simply because a newer version comes out doesn't mean we all have to run out and spend thousands of dollrs to replace perfectly good SW. The SW I have currently does everything I need and I don't see a compelling reason to replace all of my photo and video SW. I'm also not interested in turning my 3 headed mac into a glorified iPhone. Am I alone in this or being unreasonable? The update is not complex so why won't they do this? I also like how the communities no longer support this version.

My internet will be cut off in 48 hours unless I remove this virus. I got an e-mail saying I was infected with this flashback virus. I called Rogers to confirm that it wasn't a phishing e-mail and it is legitimate. The only thing they did was give me numbers to a paid technical support line, I'd prefer not to call and pay. I went online and found a tutorial for removing it using Terminal, which I tried and got the error messages which apparently means I'm not affected. How do I remove this virus before my internet gets cut off? I am operating a MAC OSX 10.5.8 software system on my macbook?

I read the recent Flashback trojan with Apple's Java. I have a client who is still running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and noticed Apple released an updated Java for Mac OS X 10.6. I assume there is none for unsupported 10.5.8. Is there a way to remove its Java or protect it without upgrading the OS?Â
