OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Is There Flashback Protection / Fix For Mac OS X 10.5.8 Vulnerable Java
Apr 4, 2012
I read the recent Flashback trojan with Apple's Java. I have a client who is still running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and noticed Apple released an updated Java for Mac OS X 10.6. I assume there is none for unsupported 10.5.8. Is there a way to remove its Java or protect it without upgrading the OS?

I checked yesterday and didn't have any software updates, but today I had one for Java, so I updated it.Does this mean I'm protected? I've read the links but don't understand how to determine if I'm currently infected, or if the updated Java will protect my iMac in the future.Should I download something else from Apple's site?

I think I need it to play Yahoo games. I went to Safari Preferences and checked Enable Java. (Enable JavaScript was already checked.) But when I click on a Yahoo game, the page loads, yet the game doesn’t appear. I thought I could just enable Java when I wanted to play, then disable it when I wasn't. Obviously this isn’t urgent, but if there’s an easy and safe way to play, I’d like to know.

I made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2 and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for example
i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.
And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.
And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.
now the only way to run applets is through a web browser. Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?

Does anyone know if the much reported RSS vulnerability for Safari (where users were advised to change default RSS reader to anything but safari) still exist? Has this been addressed by Apple in any updates? I just switched to Safari 4, did this fix the issue?

My imac, running Leopard, has Flashback. Since Apple is not supporting this problem on OS X 10.5, how do I get rid of it? I have since disabled JAVA and have improved dramatically the IMac operation.

If 10.5 is up to date, is it vunerable to the Flashback.G Trojan that was reported on 2/24? All of the news items about this speak only of 10.6 or 10.7. They imply that if OS X is up to date, then there are no worries.

How to remove Flashback malware on OSX 10.5.8?
How do you know if you even have the "Flashback Malware"?
(30% of Macs run 10.5.8 or older, It should only be a matter of time before the Java fix is updated) Does anybody know when the update will be sent?

I understand that Apple want to forget older versions of the OS but simply because a newer version comes out doesn't mean we all have to run out and spend thousands of dollrs to replace perfectly good SW. The SW I have currently does everything I need and I don't see a compelling reason to replace all of my photo and video SW. I'm also not interested in turning my 3 headed mac into a glorified iPhone. Am I alone in this or being unreasonable? The update is not complex so why won't they do this? I also like how the communities no longer support this version.

My internet will be cut off in 48 hours unless I remove this virus. I got an e-mail saying I was infected with this flashback virus. I called Rogers to confirm that it wasn't a phishing e-mail and it is legitimate. The only thing they did was give me numbers to a paid technical support line, I'd prefer not to call and pay. I went online and found a tutorial for removing it using Terminal, which I tried and got the error messages which apparently means I'm not affected. How do I remove this virus before my internet gets cut off? I am operating a MAC OSX 10.5.8 software system on my macbook?

I just recently updated to 10.6.3 which, as far as I know does not have built-in protection from stuff like Flashback Trojan. When I click on "Software Update" all I get is an inactive, blank screen. I was told that if I clicked on that I would be able to download Apple's patch preventing this from infecting my iMac.
