Aug 23, 2010I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?

Apr 25, 2012I finally upgraded to Snow Leopard. I have some older software and everything was working fine, so I delayed. I have an Intel 2 x 2.66 Dual Core. Now, I keep getting an error whenever I try to run Time Machine. So far, this is what I have done: Used disk Utility, Disk Warrior, then disk utility again (erased back up drive), then downloaded and reinstalled using the 10.6.8 combo update. Disk Utility again. Tried to backup and got the same error: The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk.

Apr 15, 2012I have Time Machine backing up my MacMini Snow Leopard Server to an external harddrive. When the backup runs, it never completes, but it also does not throw an error message. It just gets stuck around 300MB or so and eventually starts over. As you can see it does not seem to backup everything. I have tried using TimeTracker to see what it might be getting stuck on but I can't really make heads or tails of it. I have even removed the old backup and started a new one. It backs up once fully (I think) and then after that it just gets stuck like this.
I should mention the drive it backs up is two separate partitions SnowLeopard Server Volume and PrimeRoot Volume, both of which need to be backuped. I was thinking maybe a permissions issue? But I just don't know where to look.

Twice in the last three days, the backups failed with the error message that the backup disk image is already in use.I noticed that the partition containing the backup sparse bundle is mounted twice in /Volumes -- /Volumes/X and /Volumes/X-1. The error message refers to /Volumes/X-2.The icon that appears on the desktop has not cleared as if it's still doing a backup.Looking at the sparsebundle directly gives me the "verificationstate" as 1 -- I recall reading that this is supposed to 0. Other values:
verificationdate == 2012-06-05, and VerificationExtendedSkip == false.Note that the backup drive is attached to another Mac still running Leopard. This is run fine for years over a gigabit network.

Mar 27, 2012I have my hard drive partitioned into two parts and after running time machine last night one of my partitions (Stuffz) is not showing up. This partition isn't even backed up by time machine so I'm not sure what exactly I need to do to fix this. It has a lot of important files on it.

May 24, 2009i've got a niggling problem that i'd like to get sorted. I've searched the forums, but can't find anything that relates exactly to my problem.
I restored my pro from a time machine machine backup and now it displays the time incorrectly (-1hr). 'Set date & time automatically' is checked in system prefs which makes the problem even weirder. I'm using the Apple Europe sever too.
I've read somewhere about deleting a hidden file to solve the problem, but there isn't enough information to execute.

Jul 17, 2009I just got a 1TB time capsule after the recent refresh. Set up both my mbps for the time machine with the TC. The mbp 17" will be permanently connect to the TC via ethernet, while the 13" is wirelessly linked.
However I noticed from the mbp 17" TM preference panel that it doesn't show the specific time for the current and next backup time. See below:-
I did a search and come up with this thread. I tried the suggested method of deleting the com.apple.TimeMachine.plist file from ~library/preference/ folder. I even reformat the TC hdd via airport utility and reboot the system. Then I did a rebackup with time machine. BUT I STILL GET THE SAME RESULT~~!!!!!
What am I doing wrong? Is there something I'm missing? I just want it to show my next backup time like what my mbp13" is showing. Anyone?
P/S: IF I enter Time Machine, after exiting TM I get a mounted sparse bundle of my mbp 17" TM backup. Is there anyway to get it to unmount automatically? Is it usual for a sparse bundle to stay mounted once we exit from TM?

OS X :: Time Machine Not Showing Latest / Oldest Backup?
Mar 30, 2009I had an issue where Time Machine, connected to my Time Capsule wouldn't show the latest and oldest backup. It displayed "-- -- --" in both fields.
I already resolved the issue but thought I'd post it here for the benefit of anybody who encounters the problem and searches MacRumors for a solution.
1- Delete the preferences file for Time Machine (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist)
2- Restart Mac
3- Go into System Preferences/Time Machine
4- Turn on Time Machine and select your Time Machine (or other external drive you were using for Time Machine)
5- Allow the system to backup (should be a small change)

May 7, 2012My external time machine drive will not show on my imac, the disk cant be found when trying to do a backup, it is plugged in and connected can be viewed in disk utility and system profile but will not show up anywhere else, its usually visible on the desktop, ive unplugged it , turned it off and on , powered down my imac and tried viewing it in other accounts all to no avail also it cant be seen using terminal, ive used disk utility to repair and it says the drive is fine, how do i get it back to show up.

Software :: Time Machine Interface Not Showing Older Backups?
Oct 6, 2010Lately when I go to view backups using the Time Machine interface it lists all my backups going back to April 22, 2009, but anything older than late August 2010 is blacked out and can't be clicked.
When I look in my Time Capsule disk on the finder, all the older backups are there and I can view and copy all the files.
Also, in system preferences, Time Machine preferences lists my oldest backup as April 22, 2009 and there is plenty of disk space available on the Time Capsule.
Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it?

Oct 27, 2007I plugged in my external HD last night and was told I'd have to format. I moved all my data over to a larger disk during the night so as to clear it for this. I woke up this morning, did a spotlight search for Time Machine and got "An unexpected error occurred (Error Code -43). I then, in my half asleep state, thought that I'd just uninstall TM. I have this app called AppDelete, which did the trick. Now I realise that TM is in system prefs and appears to be working.
Firstly, has anyone else gotten this error, and secondly, is there any way to get back whatever it was I deleted earlier? Maybe by using the install disk. I looked at it earlier and didn't see any options.
I noticed that the TM "app" in the Applications folder was only a few hundred kbs so I may not have done much damage. Doesn't anyone know what that part is? Is it just a frontend or what?

May 14, 2012after quiet some time tried again to backup my system to an external firewire HD but unfortunately after 16 hours I realized that the process was stuck at half time backing up my 250GB of data. In fact my computer was not not responding at all so I puled the plug.

Jan 14, 2009I have updated 2 iMacs and 1 Macbook to 10.5.5 recently and all three of them have started giving this Time Machine error occasionally (every few days). The Macbook and 1 iMac are backing up to an AEBS disk, but the other iMac has a direct attached USB disk (both are WD MyBooks). I have never had a Time Machine error on any of these machines before. Jul 4, 2012I have a Seagate Goflex Home network drive. I have been using Time Machine on MacBook Pro with this drive to the Backup Volume (there's also a "Public" and "Personal" volume on this drive.I did something I shouldn't have done. I deleted the Time Machine back up folder from the Backup volume. I read in various places on the web that I shouldn't do this. But did I listen? Noooooooo.Now, when I go to Time Machine preferences and select a drive, it asks me to log into the drive (but I am already logged in). I do so and click to connect and I get an error message: Time Machine can't acces the backup disk "GoFlex Home Backup".The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 2.)So, I've read that if I delete the Time Machine info from this disk that I may need to reformat the drive to use it with Time Machine again.I have lots of other data (in the other volumes) on this drive.
