I've been considering of getting as my next laptop a macbook air. Now they have flash storage and what I was wondering is the following: Is there a possibility that if the battery is completely used and there is no power, you will loose the information on your computer
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerbook G4 running Tiger. I forgot my admin password (which was the only user account I had), but I couldn't find my install disc. I have since found it, but since I am the impatient type, I went searching google to figure out how to reset my password without the disc. One website told me to change the name of my "home folder," so I changed it from "Jason" to "Hello." It then said to reboot and type the following at the command prompt: "sh /etc/rc"
Which I did, and a bunch of text came up. Then I typed: "passwd Jason" to change the admin password. It prompted me to enter a new password twice, which I did. Then I rebooted. When the login came up, it had two logins to choose from, "Jason" and "Other." I chose Jason and entered my new password. When it logged in, all my desktop files were gone and all my Safari and Firefox bookmarks were gone. In my "/Users" folder, it now has "Jason" as the home icon, and beside that there is a folder called "Hello." In "Hello/Desktop," I found all my files that used to be on my Desktop. How do I get my old account back (Hello)? I still don't remember the password. Do I need to use the disc? Should I just drag all the files from the "Hello/Desktop" folder to my "new" desktop?
Also, when I went into terminal, and typed "ls -a /Users" it came back with this:
..DS_Store Shared Hello
...localized Jason
Sorry for misspelling on title line. It should be --lose not loose. So it used to work just fine. I obviously did something wrong. Retracing my steps as follows:
1. Cloned my original single drive with iTunes and iPhoto data already on it. Clone worked same as original-just fine.
2. Then took new SSD-formatted and partitioned and did clean/hybrid minimal OSX install plus transferred applications, library and home onto new boot drive-about 28GB.
3. Then took larger SSD formatted and made 2 partitions-one for iTunes 160GB and 2nd for iPhoto 80GB.
4. Used drives in external enclosures to test. Could not get any iPhoto picture data to show up after unmounting and iTunes has the content, but after unmounting iTunes (along with iPhoto since on same SSD) all database (album artwork, etc) disappears when I reboot and go back to either Application-iTunes or iPhoto. What did I do wrong?
Is it possible to downgrade OS's without having to loose any files? I'm really mad that I didn't catch this earlier about Leopard (see my other threads).Does anyone know of a way to do it? If so,

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to keep my school files on desktop two so they are all in the same place, and use desktop one as a place to perhaps save photos or other files not school related. When I swipe between desktops, the school files move between the desktops as I swipe but I want to keep them on one desktop all the time.

Practically all my photos are in my Aperture libraries, but I can't browse these when choosing a desktop picture in the System Preferences. I remember it was possible to browse through the iPhoto events, but I don't see this option with Aperture. So is there really no way to use the photos from Aperture as a desktop picture without exporting the photos to an ordinary folder?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI dragged several of my favourite photos out of Aperture and onto my desktop. To get rid of the clutter I want to delete the desktop photos without deleting the copy I have of them in Aperture. If I drag the desktop photos into the trash, will I still have these photos in Aperture? Wondering if when I dragged the photo onto the desktop it was just a copy of what's held in Aperture or did it actually transfer them out of Aperture?

I have a MacBook which has recently been shutting down when it feels like :/ this all started a week or two ago (well not the shut downs but other issues that I'll get too), basically the fan I think has been knocked as it is bumping the top or something as the whirring is getting loud and it sounds like every now and again it hits something
Also CPU usage seems to be averaging out at 20% for Safari and 100% for HD Video where as it used to be very small amount for Safari and 30 - 40% for HD.
My husband just ordered a new 13 inch MB for me for Christmas. When it arrives next week I want to get it all set up before he wraps it and "hides" it from me (he said I could so it's ready to go on Christmas morning). So I need to know the easiest and best way to get my files (bookmarks, mail, printer, applications, etc) from the old to the new. I use an external hard drive and super duper to back up. I've never done this before. Would a genius bar do it for me?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter using Firefox and many others on the Mac, it's now my default browser. It's the only browser that's in the dock, actually. But I have a complaint about it.On a MacBook, the screen isn't wide enough for all of my bookmarks to show up in the bookmarks bar. The "bookmarks" menu in the bookmarks bar is hiding the last bookmark I have. How do I get rid of that? The top menu already has a bookmarks pull down menu.

I have 3 user ids on my imac, 2 are admin and one is not. When trying to upload a lot of photos onto the desktop of one admin user id the screen froze. Absolutely nothing works, you can't click on anything and the keyboard does nothing! It has only affected this user id, the other 2 are fine. I have tried restart, verify disc, repair disc, virus scan.
