Oct 7, 2008I would like to upgrade the memory on my mac pro to 8gb (4 x 2gb) plus the original 2gb (2 x 1gb) that comes standard for a total of 10gb. I have looked on [URL] and the prices range from $198.99 to $799.99 for 8gb (4 x 2gb) kits. The Omni Technologies Optival is mighty tempting at $198.99 and I see that OWC has 8gb for $269. What do you recommend? Is Optival any good? The reason I an adding 8gb is for multi-tasking video/audio etc.

Apr 14, 2010I'm getting so bored of waiting for Apple to bring out a new Mac Pro. So I'm now thinking why it's not possible to upgrade the processors in my dual 2.66 quad core Intel Xeon Nehalem to the new Westmere 3.33 GHz 6 core Xeon processors.They run the same voltage range so the existing power supply should be fine, have the same 1366 socket and can use the same RAM specs. Cooling should be fine as wel However, will the motherboard in the dual Nehalem Mac's run Westmere processors? Does the BIOS need to be upgraded? Would a 3rd party motherboard run them instead?I'm gathering no one has done this yet.

Mac Pro :: Win 7 On Intel Xeon Mac Pro - Getting Blue Screens
Jun 10, 2009I have a Intel Xeon Mac Pro and I've been able to put XP and Vista on it without issue, but am now trying to put Win 7 on it and every time after doing the initial installing files and then reboot, it comes to a blue screen and reboots very quickly.
Has anyone run into this and if so have you found a work around?
For more info, I created a Windows partition in Leopard using the Boot Camp utility and divided my drive equally. Then I insert the Win 7 disc and click on the start install and it reboots. I select the Boot Camp partition and format it. It copies files and does the install process and eventually gets to a point where it reboots and goes to load the Win 7 OS and this is when it blue screens.
I have done all the firmware updates on my Mac Pro, I even tried it on another Mac Pro with the same results.
I've redownloaded the iso direct from MS and burned it using different brand disc and using a different burning app. I tried the 64bit version also and whenever I use that version it comes up asking me what CD drive, 1 or 2, I can't enter in a 1 or a 2 or do anything at all but turn the machine off. I even tried it on another Mac Pro with the same result.
I tried removing the OS X drive and having only 1 hard drive in the system that's just for installing Win 7 to, all to no avail. Every time with the 32bit version I get a blue screen and every time with the 64bit version I get the "which cd drive" screen and cannot do anything but power off the machine.
I was able to do an upgrade from Vista after installing Vista SP1 but after it completed and tried to load the Win 7 OS for the first time it again blue screened.

It works fine, turns on and all, but after opening a few programs and letting it run a little and i ask him to shut down, it takes me to the grey screen with the little rolling ball and does not shut down.

Mar 5, 2012I've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen.
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc drive

MacBook :: Fan Not Stop Running After OS X Upgrade
Feb 8, 2008I wasn't so concerned about this until my wife started complaining about my MacBook being so noisy. The fan didn't used to be always running. I think it was after I upgraded to OS X 10.5 that the fan decided it would just always be running. I have my MacBook on all the time and usually the applications that are open are, Firefox(with 10 active TABs), iTunes, Azureus, VLC and Mail (and Widgets). It used to only come on if Azureus was real busy. Now the fan will start up soon after I boot up and will even keep running when I close all Apps and only have the Finder open. What can I do to regulate my fan? It doesn't seem to want to control itself. Also, my MacBook never feels overheated. I used to have an iBook and that thing got hot. MacBook with constantly running fan fees real cool in comparison so I don't think the fan needs to be constantly running.

However Hardware monitor definitely shows an increase in temperature in the Memory banks, has anyone else had this experience?

When I open Safari or load a page I get the spinning ball for as long as fifteen seconds.
