I have some file types that their icons are exec icon or empty page icon or anything random... These types of files are for example .nfo files or .srt. Is there a way to set a certain icon that I want for these types of files? An icon for all .nfo files and another icon for .srt files etc.
View 2 RepliesI used to use ResEdit back int he day - and have used various tools on Mac and Windows to change icons. BUt I am stuggling with a default custom icon option for Mac OS X. Â I have a set of farily simply icons for use with a number of file types that I use a lot - csv, psl, pti, tp3, xml, cfr, and others and I would like to always have newly created files get the custom icon. Â
Ideally this would be based on the extension - and they are not all from the same app. Â I am not afraid to use the terminal or edit package contents. Although some of them are windows apps - and I already have a custom set in the virtual machine. Â Some of the solutions I have seen out there such as Candy Bar seem to be only for application and folder settings. Â In a couple cases - such as the .cfr and .pti - the apps do not have an open method where you can double click on the file and have it open - so I woudl be okay with something like reprogramming TextEdit to have the necessary icons and plist updates. Although when I tried to edit the plist file in TextEdit - all I did was render TextEdit unusable. Â
when I create 30 to 40 files ( a group of 5 differnet file types for each option ) to have icons that help me determine which ones I need to run a macro against - and which to send the customer - and which to upload to the vendor - etc. Â Also missing the colorful icons in the sidebar and iTunes - as well an Unsanity Haxies?

After applying an image to be an application's icon, the image does not appear but instead the image of Preview appears with the image's type (for example jpeg) on it. I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong, other than possibly using the wrong image type. Is there a proper image type to use (I've tried pretty much every type but none of them seem to work), or do you have to change icons from somewhere other than 'get info'?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently changed all my movie files on my Snow Leopard system to be launchable by QuickTime Player 7 instead of QuickTime Player X [see note below]. For various historical reasons, these movie files have a variety of icons associated with them. I'd like to run some sort of utility which does a mass change of the icons of all my movies to the same, one, single icon ... and I'd like to do this in one fell swoop, instead of having to go through an icon change procedure movie by movie by movie by movie by movie by movie by movie by movie ...
After changing all my movies to be launchable by QT 7, I have restarted Finder and restarted my machine, but the old icons remain on all of the movies.
Is there any way that I can perform this mass icon change under Snow Leopard, or am I out of luck?
I have a PDF file that's a form I need to fill out. What's the best way to type on it and re-save it as a PDF?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if I have the ability to set my download preferences for my Mac (I'm running Snow Leopard -- just installed it yesterday!) to send certain file types to specific destinations. For example, I want to set up several folders so that when I download a .gif or .jpeg file, it will go into my "Pictures" folder. Also, as I download .pdf files religiously for my academic pursuits (which just so happens to be in the field of religion...), I'd like to make a specific "Articles" folder to have all .pdf files download into it. I hope this makes sense.

I've managed to change one using the rsrc file type but no other type will work for me such as icns, png or tiff. This is probably something easy. I have a small movie library, which I created icon files for (with a frame from the movie). I just have to "get info" on each movie individually, and copy the image icon over the movie's generic icon. I can't use poster frames in iTunes/Quicktime because they're not all quicktime compatible, and I didn't want to re-encode everything.
I'm just wondering if it is simple to write a script that will ask for an item (the image), copy it's Icon, then ask for a second item (the movie) and paste the icon to that. If it is possible, the process would go a little faster both now, and for any others I do in the future.
I know how to change Icons when they are in the Ico format but now everytime I download Icon packs the files are coming in PNGs and I have no clue how to make a png my Icon. I'd prefer to be able to do just that if there is a way, if not then is there a free converter? For some reason neither IConverter or PngtoIco will work for me. (I am on Tiger)

so I am try to fix a macbook that was updated to 10.5.7 it appears there is an issue with finder, files or folders can't be move (nothing is locked), spotlight icon and time are gone from the menu bar, no programs will print. I have tried restarting, repairing permissions, removing safari beta 4 (downgraded back to 3) with no luck. Trying the combo update is my next thought?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know when this started happening, but all of a sudden in coverflow all the images display as their file type icon, not the preview of the image, which defeats the purpose of coverflow. Anyone know how this happened and how to switch it back?
Incidentally, all the icons show for Xee, the image browsing app, which I'm using only because Preview is being a jerk and constantly displaying itself in my secondary monitor, which I keep off most of the time (it's a wacom cintiq, and it's distracting to have turned on when not in use). If I can somehow fix this all by fixing preview and getting rid of Xee, I certainly would.
I am cleaning up my MacBookPro and noticed there are a number of update files in my Applications folder. The files include: SuperDrive Update, Trackpad Firmware Update, MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update, MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update, Bluetooth Firmware Update, Adobe AIR Application Installer.
Do I need these files in my Application folder, or can I delete them?
this seems like a great way to give aND GET HELP FOR MAC COMPUTERS.. my problem is i cannot drag icons and files on my ibook. and i already did the permissions stuff and restarted and pretrty much eevrything... i just wanted to know if anmyone had this problem and could help me.

I have a macpro 1.1, with mac os x lion server 10.7.3. Everything works great. I created a virtualHost in my server app called myVirtualHost.mydomain.com and manualy enabled +Indexes on that virtualHost. When I access the myVirtualHost.mydomain.com gives me a nice list with all the content of the sites folder.my problem is that the list is very poor files/folders have no icons, I want little icons for the different types of content in site files/folders, just like in snow leo server.

I have to hit program folder twice to see the icons in this folder.I have a 17" 2.9 GHZ Unibody,
When I go into the finder and hit "Programs" the folder opens but no icons are shown, If I hit it a second time (via left menu in window) they are shown roght away.
I place document icons in my finder sidebar, and sometime later they change to folder icons. Does not matter which application they come from, it seems to happen to them all, but they are still linked to the correct documents.

On my desktop the little disk image icons are coming up when i open certain applications. I wanna make them disappear, but still be able to see ipods, cds, and external drives.
Also(somewhat irrelevant), occasionally when i open firefox, it asks me to drag it in the applications folder, but it's already there. please help. its so annooying
i am a tad stumped by this issue i'm having right now with my new imac. i noticed one day that none of my desktop aliases show any longer. in fact if i go to the desktop folder through finder my files and such show in there however none of my aliases nor those files show on the actual desktop. another thing i've noticed is that whenever i now try to drag and drop anything to the desktop whether it be a URL from safari or an alias i made in finder the dragged item simply just drags itself back to where i pulled it from.

And apparently all the apps out there to change the dock background don't work with Snow Leopard.I know CandyBar can help me with the folder icons and app icons, but as far as I can tell, not the actual dock background.

Whenever I hit the right or up arrow key on my macbook, it does shift either right or up but it also type either the number "8" for the right arrow key or the number "9" for the up key. How do I get this to stop?
