This worked fine until today....when I apple shift 4 to take a picture I get this error message....The attempt to take a screen capture has failed. The error is: 'Cannot write file to intended destination. Please make sure that the destination folder is writable.'
i've tried the various short cut commands and i cant take a screenshot. i will hear the camera snap. but the error shows " screen capture fail.. bla bla the error is 'unable to create type string' ... "
i've googled this problem but there was no solution said. i've done the disk utility repair, set keyboard short cuts to default. i dont intend to install a 3rd party app.
Out of the blue 'shift+Command+3', and 'shift+command+4' are not working. I can hear the camera clicking sound and a .png is saved on the desktop but it is always a stripy image.
In Snow Leopard (and in Leopard before it), when you use the screen capture (to clipboard) key combination: SHIFT+(apple key)+Control+4 to capture part of the screen to the clipboard, it doesn't paste into many applications.
For example, using an OpenOffice document, the Edit...Paste menu is not highlighted (after doing a screen capture to clipboard), yet, I can paste the copied clipboard screen shot to Text Edit.
Since OpenOffice and other programs I've tried (including Thunderbird) do display graphics in their programs, why don't they accept the clipboard contents from the Mac screen capture program?
Thunderbird also will NOT accept a Mac screen shot clipboard "Paste".
What's going on here?
This lack of functionality breaks the idea of "cut and paste", which always works as expected in, gulp, Windows.
Snagit, for Windows, was wonderful, but I can't find anything to even come close for the Mac. (Of course, I'd be happy with just cut and paste working as expected for simple screen shots.)
How would I redefine where the screen capture utilities (command-shift-3, etc.) place the image? I can cut out a step in my work if, rather than placing the image on the desktop, I can place it in a specific folder (or even a network folder).
i was trying to get a screen capture of an issue with itunes when previewing tv shows/movies..etc but it appears you can no longer take screen caps of iTunes movies/tv shows (well ones you didnt import yourself).... or is there a work around?
This is the image I get on my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo OSX10.5.4. I have repaired permisions and removed all login items. Once I move the cursor or open up a window the screen clears behind the cursor or window etc... It freezes up at least once or twice a day...
I started up again and attached another screen, the image was normal on both screens. But alone the iMac still starts up with the pixelated screen.

I was wondering if there was a way to take a screen shot/screen grab ect. movies on mac? Because I wanted to put it as my desktop and take a few and just have them alternating.
I am using a macbook with lepard installed. I am running boot camp to be able to work on programms such as C++ and I need to get a screen shoot for the class. I have tried all of the Mac things that should work such as apple **** 4 and nothing happens for me. I have no print screen key as I am on a Mac ideas to capture the screen in the Windows side?
This is unnerving. At random intervals, my screen flashes. It more like "winks" - as though a screen capture was being made. Actually, when you make a real screen capture, the screen doesn't wink, but that's the impression I get. The screen doesn't flicker or flash like it's a hardware bad connection, but goes through a fast, but continuous normal-white-normal cycle. I'm looking at my activity monitor to see if something is unusual, but I can't tell. Everything I look up seems to be real.
I really need to scan some images into my computer and I can't afford the $39 for VueScan. Image Capture used to work, but now what happens is that I open it up, and my printer/scanner Might show up for a second, but then it disappears and image capture tells me that there's no camera or scanner connected.I think it's stopped working ever since I upgraded to 10.6. Any ideas?
We have 10.6.7 Podcast producer and mac minis with 10.6.8 and a ADVC-110 Canopus conected to firewire and recording by a java app developed to schedule our recordings based on a database which has all the dates of classes. All the macminis has a Energy Saver Schedule to shutdown at 12:00am and starts at 07:00am And all the mac minis in the podcast capture preferences are binded to the server and has the quality choose on good having a file of 271mb per hour. But the problem goes here, every file that is uploaded to the podcast server are really big we are talking about a 1h :20m are about 16gb. So my server is really really slow trying to encode this files. Is any other way to force podcast capture to capture smaller files? i dont know if the problems is in configuration or in our advc 110 I have been testing different versions of mac os x and the only one that the codification of best, good and better works was in the 10.6.4. Even lion fail on the codification of the video. The problem is that we have mac mini 2011 and i cannot install 10.6.4 only run 10.6.8... Â

I remember seeing rumours about a possible screen capture program being included with Snow Leopard. While I was just scrolling through all the new features on the Apple website for Snow Leopard I saw this: Record your screen.
Catch the action taking place on your screen with screen recording. Start recording and QuickTime Player captures the activity on your screen and creates a movie file. Its perfect for creating instructional media or when you need more than a simple screen shot.[URL]
I don't know if I missed the point at which everyone else found this but it came as a surprise to me. Are there any developers that can elaborate on how good this is and how it works?
I want to capture what is going on my Mac's screen as a video. For example. I want to turn something on, start an application and demo a few features, and then turn the something off, resulting in a video file of my screen during that period, showing my application demo.
I am looking for a good quality/fast free screen capture video recorder software for my iMac that I can record things on my screen.
I require a software that is resizable to your specific dimensions that you require recording of.
For example, if you only wanted to capture and record a section in Pages, you would be able to click and drag how much area you wish to record.
I have tried both "Capture Me" and "Copernicus", but I had issues with both. Copernicus seems to let me click and drag the surface area I wish (then nothing else besides a viewfinder preview window pops up), then when I hit record it might record a second or two and then shut off... or maybe that was on Capture Me, I cannot remember right now...
Does anyone have a good video screen capture software? I really liked the Hypercam on Windows, but that had a water mark that needed to be paid to remove...
I am looking for a program that will facilitate customization of screen captures on my MacBook. I really do not want to have to go into terminal assigning commands etc...just a great program or app that will help me easily accomplish renaming captures, reassigning locations of captures, etc.
just wondering how I would go about capturing a screen image to be used on a forum. So I would like to capture a still image from a video in order to use it as my signature block in a group forum.Someone suggested I push the "Print Screen" button when I find the image I want. But of course Macs do not have a print screen button (at least not on my keyboard anyway).
When I try to take rapid fire screen captures (5-7 caps/sec) using the shortcut keys, only a 3-4 of these captures will show up on the desktop, and it generally takes 5-7 seconds for them to call show up. I never had a problem doing this until I reformatted/reinstalled snow leopard over the weekend - even when all programs are shut down this lag occurs.

Basically I need a one click solution to the screen capture program built into OS X. I want something that I can pin to the dock and when I click it it performs the command+shift+3 that copies the whole screen and saves a png to the desktop. I have found some commands to call up key codes for the letter keys but I need to know how to call up the other keys. Would it be easier to just make a script in the script editor. I'm not a mac / unix guy and I realize that this is really simple I'm just new at it.
maybe its because I've been up until 3 in the morning the last couple days playing with Leopard. But I swear somewhere I saw a way to capture a screen as video.
I want to post a demo of the mosaic screen saver on my Livejournal.
And if there isn't anything built in. Anyone know any good, pref free, apps. I say free because I'll probably use this once.
