OS X :: Three Partitions And Booting From BootCamp

Aug 13, 2009

I'm waiting for the UPS guy to deliver my 500GB Hitachi HDD. Basically what I want is:

3 Partitions:
50GB for Mac OSX (HFS+)
50GB for Win7 (NTFS)
400GB for Data and stuff... (HFS+)

and be able to boot with Bootcamp. Is it possible?

OS X :: Getting Bootcamp Working With 4 Partitions

Jun 11, 2009

My machine:
- MacBook Pro (Pre-Unibody)
- 2.4 Ghz Intel C2D
- 4 GB RAM 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
- 320 GB Seagate HD

I am trying to partition my hard drive into 4 partitions. However, I can't get Windows working with more than 2 partitions. I know that there is some way to get this to work, I just haven't been able to find the necessary hack/guide. To make matters more complicated, my Windows partition is set over 32 GB, in fact, it is about 80 GB. I'm willing to completely re-install everything and completely repartition my hard drive to get this to work. I just would like to know of a sure fire step by step way to get this setup working. 3 Partitions HFS+ and 1 partition for Windows XP SP3 = 4 partitions.

I tried to do a search with no luck perhaps it's because i didn't use the right keywords.

I m running my iMac with bootcamp Vista, now i created the partition with bc for windows. I am thinking about creating more partitions within the windows drive. Is it as simple as installing partition magic? or are there other features within the mac that can create the partitions for me.

MacBook Pro :: Bootcamp And Parallels - Recommended Partitions?

Oct 19, 2010

Im thinking of buying a mac, i've always used a windows pc though. Im gonna see what happends tommorow at the mac event but I want a Mac Book Pro. i want to dualboot mac os and windows 7 using bootcamp, parrallels, and refit. I've been doing some research on it and I would like some expert opinions on recommended settings to partition the disk. should I do 50/50 split or what? I'll either get a 320 or 500gb hard drive. I also see that some people split it three ways and have a 3rd partition for shared files, such as music, documents, ect. is this recommended or is this not really needed to share files between the 2 OS's? I'll probably be using windows OS more often or atleast use parallels alot until i get the hang of mac os. I also want to be able to sync itunes on both the windows and mac os, so it doesnt madder which operating system im on if i want to listen, download or sync my ipod, is there a way to do this? And lastly, I use outlook to download my comcast email via pop3. Is there a way to sync outlook in windows and outlook for mac between the partitions? I can not find any answers to this question online. Any opinions, recommendations, or thoughts about these subjects or buying my first mac in general is welcome.

Applications :: Bootcamp Partitions Hardware - RAM Reduced To 2GB Rather 4GB?

Apr 14, 2010

I know this sounds silly and I'm fairly confident that it's false, but a friend of mine told me Bootcamp partitions your hardware specs. In other words your RAM is reduced to 2GBs rather than 4GB and your video card is split from 512MB to 256MB, etc. I really think he's confusing this with VMware Fusion or possibly Parallels but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't too stupid to think he's right.

Mac Pro :: Bootcamp Now Not Booting

May 29, 2010

A friend of mine has a Mac Pro Desktop. He was currently running a Snow Leopard and installed Bootcamp. When he was prompted to insert his Windows he did and it rebooted. Now after rebooting it prompts him to " Select CD-Rom Boot Type: 1. or 2." but the keyboard will not respond. I cannot open the CD tray to insert the Mac OSX CD. So how can I restore the Mac back to where he was before the bootcamp installation. He does does have a Time Capsule installed.

I've been running Windows 7 64 bit on my MacBook Pro for many months now and have had no problems with it, however last week my BootCamp partition decided not to launch anymore and instead it goes straight into Startup Repair. Startup Repair is never able to find a problem and shuts my computer down straight after. Now I'm stuck using OS X without the programs and such I need.

Mac Pro :: Unable To Booting After Bootcamp Installation?

Oct 22, 2009

I tried to install Bootcamp (XP Pro SP3) on my Mac Pro (2.66GHz....) and it was not playing nicely.

I have OSX on one HD and I wanted to install XP on a 2nd internal HD. Everything started OK but the installation of XP just gave up on me so I decided to go back into OSX and start again.

No joy. Now when I boot my Mac Pro I got the 'bong' but nothing happens.

I have tried removing the HD that had XP on, still no joy. I tried booting off the OSX DVD, no joy.

My guess is that XP has screwed something on the boot loader (or whatever it uses). Is there anyway of doing a hard reset of that to get OSX back?

OS X :: Changing Partitions - Time Machine Will Be Reinstall If I Change My Partitions?

Mar 7, 2010

I have an iMac 2.4ghz with a 320g hd, that I partitioned 50/270 when I installed Leopard. I read somewhere to have the opp system partitioned and I have been kicking myself in the rear ever since. Too many apps and files want to run next to the opp system, so I'm starting over.I used time machine for a backup of the system (both partitions are showing) on my 1 TB iomega external hard drive (minimax). I partitioned the external 500/500, time machine/additional storage. So that is what I'm working with, now for the question:With my backup complete, if I do a clean install to the internal hard drive (320g) in order to remove the 50g opp/sys partition and just have one 320g internal hd; will my time machine be able to restore to a clean 320 without having the 50/270gig partition setup? If so will this be a somewhat simple process?

For example it says:

"Warning: Unrecognized partition table for Drive 80. Please rebuild it using a Microsoft-compatible FDISK tool (err=4)"

It will come up 3 times, and then boot into Vista. Both OSX and Vista are working fine, but something is definately wrong though since I am getting this error.

Mac Pro :: Raid 0 And 1 Across 2 Disks / 4 Partitions

Sep 27, 2008

So, please welcome me back. After 15 years (I had Mac Plus, LC and Quadra 650), I am back from the darkside. Bought myself a Mac Pro today. Yeah - I probably should have waited for nehalem, but my PC was getting flaky. Time for the every 9 month wipe/reload and I just didn't want to go through that again, so I jumped. Tomorrow I am moving drives into the MP. My questions is specifically about partitioning and Raid. I typically partition my drives about 1/2 way down the middle and give the 1st partition to high performance needs and leave the second for infrequent use of backups and storage.

Lets assume I have two WD6400AAKS (I have three actually). Ideally, I'd like to partition them like this:
WD1 Partition 1A (200GB) Partition 1B (400GB)
WD2 Partition 2A (200GB) Partition 2B (400GB)

Then (using Soft Raid)
- Config partition 1A and 2A as Raid 0 Striped (giving me 400GB high performance)
- And config partition 1B and 2B as Raid 1 Mirrored (giving me 400GB redundant backup)

(Yes - of course I don't want to access the mirrored drives when expecting high performance from the striped drives). I assume that once the drives are partitioned, the Soft Raid will simply see them as four different drives allowing me to configure them as described. But before dropping a few hours into this, I thought I'd let all you raid/hard drive experts give your opinion.

OS X :: Need Two Mac Partitions - Dual Boot

Mar 26, 2009

I have a MacBook with OS X 10.5.5 on it. I'm allowed to use my personal laptop at work, but they have said I must have dual-boot and only use the one partition while I'm at work, to access the programs I need to while at work. Everything must be completely separate (my personal stuff, and work stuff). Their software is both in mac and pc versions. Instead of using bootcamp and having a dual-boot option for Windows I'd like to instead have two OS X partitions to boot to, one for personal use, one for work. I tried using bootcamp and then loading my OS X DVD into the drive to create a second partition, and it won't work. It seems Bootcamp is made to work when only creating a second partition with Windows. Well, then I went to the mac store and spoke to a Genius and well they said it's something I need to make an appointment for and come in to do, because it's fairly complex.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Partitions Cannot Be Adjusted?

May 15, 2012

So, I installed Lion, but here's how I did it. Downloaded from Mac Store. Created new partition. Rebooted and installed the new OS on the new partition Booted into new partition and deleted the old one completely. Now this is all fine except now I only have 300GB from a 1TB drive.

As you can see from the screenshot, I cannot adjust the size of the partitions and when I delete the newly created partition (Macintosh HD) I still cannot make the partition larger in size. Did I do this the wrong way around?

iMac 27 3.06, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

OS X :: Mac Not Seeing All Partitions On NTFS Firewire Drive

Dec 27, 2010

I've had my MBP since August of this year, but only recently connected an NTFS drive via Firewire for the first time. I am primarily going to be moving the data from the NTFS drive onto an HFS drive. My only issue is that my MBP is only recognizing one out of two partitions on the NTFS drive (The "first" partition. If I connect back to my Windows PC, everything is recognized fine. I've since moved the data that I want to transfer from Partition 2 to Partition 1 and I'm able to access it correctly, however I'm confused as to why this is happening (still fairly new to Macs).
