OS X :: Sorting Safari Bookmarks - Removing Duplicates

Nov 3, 2006

I tend to skim an article or web site and if I see something of interest I bookmark it for later review. The forgetful part comes in when I find myself bookmarking the same site several times. One thing I have to admit about the old IE that I used to use was it would warn you if there was a duplicate addy already in your favorites folder.

I'm stuck with tens of thousands of duplicate bookmarks (maybe even millions). Safari doesn't seem to offer any sorting solutions to weed out the duplicates or even organize them (by name would be cool) other than manually doing it. The prospect of manually picking out dups from the billions of links I have collected over the past few minutes alone is daunting. Any suggestions before I start sorting the trillions of links one at a time?

Is there a way to alphabetize my Bookmarks in Safari? They seem to be in random order. I'm not asking about the Bookmark "headers" that I keep on the bar, but the items under each heading.

Applications :: Removing Duplicates In ITunes?

Jan 25, 2009

So I know about the actual menu item in iTunes, but I'd like to know if there was a way to only remove true duplicates, not the same song on a different album. Like I there is one song from a particular artist that is on 3 different albums, is there any way to have all three songs read from only one file in the HDD? That way, the song would be a part of every album, but it wouldn't take up my HDD space. I could probably do this manually by deleting those other two files, and then "locating" them when iTunes can't find it, but this would take forever. So is there any app that does such a thing? Or am I dreaming?

Applications :: Photo Consolidation - Sorting And Removing Dupes

Dec 28, 2009

My wife and I recently purchased our third Mac system (iMac). She is an aspiring photographer. We have our oldest family pictures (most in iphoto) being moved to the IMac from our Mac Mini and also her DSLR photos from our Macbook to the IMac as well. (she uses lightroom/photoshop). The problem we are running into is we have probably about 100GB in photos and I know there are many duplicates. The problem is the pictures are mixed formats (jpeg and raw) and some are the originals and some are edited. I'd like to get some sort of program(s) that could remove duplicates (if there is a dup in JPG and RAW, I'd like to keep the raw) and maybe group (its asking alot, I know) up the edited photos.

OS X :: Removing Safari Search Bar In 4.0.5?

Apr 6, 2010

I used to remove my Safari search bar using this tip:

Quote:

In the Finder, control-click on Safari and select Show Package Contents. Navigate into Contents Resources English.lproj. Create a backup of ToolbarItems.nib, then open the original in Interface Builder.

Set the main window's view mode to List (middle button in toolbar)

Navigate into (by clicking the 'reveal' triangles) Window Content View, and you'll see two Split View entries. Open each of those, and you'll see a Custom View and a Web Search Field. Delete the Web Search Field from both Split View entries. (Just select them and press Delete.)

Save the file and quit Interface Builder. In this newest update of safari, however, this appears to be impossible. Is there any way to remove the search bar anymore?

OS X :: Is There A Way To Save Safari's Bookmarks?

Oct 15, 2010

I've had Snow Leopard since launch. I want to do a fresh install, and then copy the files I want onto it from my external hard-drive. I have some questions though:

Will I have to redownload all the system updates that came out since Snow Leopard's launch? Is there a way around that?

Is there a way to save Safari's bookmarks?

If I want to keep a certain application, do I save the DMG or the installed icon onto the hard drive?

I copied the Pictures folder onto the hard-drive, which includes the 'iPhoto Library' file. Will this put my events back onto iPhoto?

How do I save address book contacts?

How do I save iTunes playlists/play counts/library etc?

Maybe there's an easier way of doing a fresh install while still being able to select these things to keep?

OS X :: How To Save Bookmarks In Safari

Dec 15, 2010

My Mac has been having some issues with "Kernel Panics" and after taking it to the Apple store and them finding nothing wrong with it while doing their tests, their advice was to just do a clean install without using the "migration helper" feature. I already know how to move over my music files, documents, etc. However, I have a ton of bookmarks saved and I'd hate to hate to build my bookmarks from scratch after doing a clean install of OS X. How can I save my bookmarks?

OS X :: Safari Won't Save Bookmarks?

Jan 25, 2010

I am on a MacBook (OS 10.5.8) running Safari (4.0.3). All of a sudden I have noticed that when I try to set a new bookmark, it appears in the folder on the bookmark menu bar, until I shut down and then it disappears. However, when you go through the Bookmark Bar, through the open book icon, the bookmark is there.

I tried exporting the bookmark.plst and then deleting it from finder and trying to import them back. This resulted in the bookmarks appearing to be there, until I shut down safari. When I restarted, I was left with the default bookmarks. I then tried to restore Safari from a back up a month ago and one 6 months ago. This got me my old bookmarks back, but didn't solve the problem of the disappearing bookmarks.

I'm not sure how uninstalling safari and reinstalling.

Safari :: Updated 1.5.1: Bookmarks All Gone?

Mar 30, 2012

Was autonotified that 2 updates were available: Safari 1.5.1 and iTunes. After the installation, all my Safari bookmarks, bookmark menu, bookmark bar are gone and reset to what looks like a default list. I am running the latest LION release/version...

I know I can back up from my Time Machine by going to ~/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist and restore.. however I can not locate the file?

I know that ~/Libray is hidden so I went to Finder and pressed option GO and library displayed... I then opened TIme Machine and attempted to find the bookmarks.plist under Safari on an older backed up copy and the file was not there..

Safari :: Way To Reorganize Bookmarks

Jun 11, 2012

I have way too many Safari bookmarks including many redundancies. I need to do a wholesale reorganization of my Safari bookmarks.

I recently started using Dragon Drop which brilliantly facilitates moving Finder files and folders around tremendously, espcially since I started using a trackpad and find it least useful for any dragging chores. But I just discivered that while Dragon Drop can be used for moving bookmarks, it only moves copies and leaves the original where it started, which is less than helpful in expediting the reorganization task.

But the task facing my Bookmarks reorganization is closest to a reorganization of my finder.

Wait a second! I just found that I can have two bookmarks windows open at the same time on two different Safari screens on my two-screen desktop setup and drag and drop between the two screens as a way to facilitate bookmark reorganizaton.
