I've been using happily Snow Leopard for a couple of weeks now but last night it just started freezing.
Everytime I open Spotlight and look for something I see the spinning beachball... the mouse still works but NOTHING else does (Dock, menus, Finder)... everything just freezes.
For some reason my iMac has started to freeze everytime it goes into screen saver mode... I have to turn the computer off to reset everthing. This error message then popps up:

This is the most random problem I had with my Mac. I usually keep it on sleep, and last night at 1:30Am it wakes up. The drive spins, but the screen is black. The sleep indicator light turns off, then the computer puts itself back to sleep. It also happened twice this morning. What's going on here?
View 7 Replies View RelatedYesterday I went out and bought the new snow leopard and 4gb (2x2gb) of OCZ ram. First, I installed the OCZ ram and booted into Leopard for a minute to check it was working all right. Then I installed snow leopard and that went smoothly. I used my laptop for around 3 hours last night and then it froze. Then this morning I have used it for a little over an hour and it froze again. All my drivers are up to date.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs the thread title states, ever since I updated to snow leopard, both safari and firefox freeze up when I access the ESPN home page and occasionally a few other sites that I have never experienced problems with before on leopard. However, if i turn off the enable plug-ins button in the safari preferences pane, most of the sites work just fine. I thought it may be flash related but i have since updated the programs it it continues to freeze up on the ESPN page. side note, this happens on both my work and home computers (very different specs between the two).
View 19 Replies View RelatedAfter dropping my macbook I had a black screen with just a cursor that would move though could not perform any actions. After reseting pram and smc, i now get to the screen with the stars and what looks like the aurora borealis or whatever. The cursor is there though nothing is happening when trying to click and when i press any keys, i gent that *dunt* noise indicating i have tried an invalid action. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I m hoping i wont need a new hd or mobo. This is my first time on the apple forums.

Is it just me, or is some of the icons such as Aperture, Nikon, Tweet, and Phone View in the Snow Leopard lighter vs the other icons in the Snow Leopard and all the icons in the Leopard screenshot? I edited these in Snow Leopard and Leopard and it seems the icons done in SL are lighter than the ones in Leopard. Am I seeing stuff or is it really lighter vs the others?
Last year, my roommates and I got together and bought the snow leopard family pack for us all to upgrade with. We are now getting ready to move out and go to separate parts of the country. We would all like to have a restore disk. My questions is, what is the legality of making a copy of the snow leopard family pack disk for each one of us?

This just started yesterday, I was trying to send an email and computer froze. Only way to quit apps was command tab Q...but computer was still frozen, had to hold power button to restart then happened again several times, It may have to do with hitting return or using the numberic keypad. Ideas anyone? Maybe alittle off subject but my computer will not mount dvd's as of 2 weeks ago...I'm under warranty, but live in the middle of nowhere.I did repair permissions and verify disk.

I have had some issues with my macbook pro lately: A few weeks ago, my Macbook started freezing and making alarm sounds. I didn't do anything about it because it happened only a few times per week.
Suddenly it happened 4 or 5 times in a row, and after x times my Macbook wouldn't go past the grey start-up screen (Apple logo loading). So I was unable to login. I solved the ''issue'' by erasing the disk. My Macbook worked again, but all data was gone. The freezing issue was gone as well. But 2 days ago, it started.. again. And today, my Macbook suddenly crashed/shut down. Now, I am not even able to start my macbook. It doesn't show anything, if I press the power button, nothing happens.
I did a SMC reset, and my Macbook worked, but only for 15 minutes. It just happened again. Something is clearly wrong and I don't know what. my Macbook instanly freezed when I connected the power cord. And I think the power cord is broken, last few days it barely charged the Macbook.
This is a thread for anyone who is experiencing a large slowdown and/or intermittent 10-60 second freezes on Mac OSX Snow Leopard, where the freezes are completely unrelated to anything you're doing, any app you're using, or whether the system is under heavy or little use. I found the issue stems from the use of Mac Fuse (with NTFS-3G installed) and/or Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX, the combination of these 2 apps essentially doing the same job (NTFS write support), conflicts and causes the hard drive to be under constant (although very little) use, which can randomly cause 30-60 second freezes. If anyone is experiencing these same freezes, uninstall either one app or the other, or both, and that might help remedy the situation. EDIT: updated because I didn't specifically mention which macFUSE plugin I had installed....

It then puts it onto facebook with a name tag, but no link to their profile. So it's not properly tagged. Which means the tool isn't actually very useful, since it doesn't provide full functionality.
Has anyone else experienced problems with the USB ports on a wired keyboard since you installed the latest Apple system update? After I ran the update, the keyboard USB ports are getting just 100 mA total; they can't even power a simple flash drive anymore.
I searched the Apple forums and noticed several users complaining about the same thing. The update seems to have made the keyboard USB ports absolutely useless.
I'd love to see CNET look into this; and if the underpowered ports are a common issue, I hope enough people complain for Apple to acknowledge the error and fix this in a subsequent update.
I bought a battery for my macbook and now it has started to expand and make it useless as if it even connects, it doesnt let me use the trackpad! Its the only battery I have!

So a while ago a bunch of new icons appeared in my launchpad(four pages worth). I clicked on a few and they didn't do anything, but am hesitant to mess around too much as I don't want to mess up my system. I've tried to find a way to hide them, but have come up short.

Ever since I have updated to 10.5.8, Leopard will continually freeze. I restart and it loads up all fine but as soon as I open something (Finder window, Mail, Safari etc) it will remain usable for about 30 more seconds until it just freezes with a blank screen (sometimes black, red or white) OR the screen image will freeze but I can still move the mouse except nothing is clickable anymore. I've resorted to starting up in safe mode to post this but has anyone had this issue before?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently moved into a student flat with 8 other people, and we have set up a fibre optic net contract with Virgin Media, who have supplied us with a Netgear Wireless N-300 router. When we first installed it we had a little problem with it not connecting to any of our laptops, but another flatmate has since 'switched the channel to 11' and now it works on their Windows ones. But not mine. I have an early 2008 15" MBP. I'm currently sat right next to the router but the only way I can get connection from it is through the ethernet. When I switch to wireless, I can pick up a full signal pretty much everywhere in the house - we have 3 floors - but no websites will load, Spotify won't connect etc. Occasionally it will grant me two minutes of very slow connection - taking a minute to decide to access a page, then not letting me go on the next and giving me 404s instead.
I'm not really sure how to solve this as I will definitely need internet connection for my studies this Sept. My room is the one directly next to the router room so signal shouldn't be a problem. I tried downloading iStumbler a few times but it kept crashing before opening. I do know, however, from my airport bit of about this mac:

What should I do? I have had issues of signal drop in most houses (where Airport loses all its bars completely and won't connect) but not this issue of having signal and still not loading.
The "Eject" button on the MBA is supposed to used when a SuperDrive is connected, to eject the CD/DVD. But to many of us who don't use the SuperDrive, that function is useless and the key is wasted. I am wondering, could we somehow set it to work with other external devices like external hdd, USB drives, etc.? i.e., instead of going right-click on the device and then selecting "Eject ABC" before unplugging, simply click the device (on desktop), then press that little Eject button on your keyboard.
