I just deleted Windows Partition 30g on my Macbook.
If I resize the MAC one to fill that 30gig back up will I need to backup? I know I know you should always back up but does it intentionally remove data? Or is it straight forward?
Just asking before I do this in Utility.
I am dual booting XP Pro and OS X on my NC10. I have XP Pro installed on the main partition with a FAT32 partition for files that can be read by both OSes (see attached image for two views of the partitions). I then installed OS X on an extended partition. Unfortunately, I had another 5GB partition also on that extended partition. I now want to delete the spare 5GB partition and non-destructively reallocate the space for the OS X partition - I want to expand it to be one big partition with my bootable OS X install still on it. Unfortunately, I can't find any way to do this in Partition Magic. Is it possible with GParted/BootItNG/iPartition or any similar software? If so, which and how? The NC10 has no CD drive so solutions that work from OS X or XP or a bootable USB stick would be preferred.

I need to know how to make the windows partition smaller and the mac partition larger. I need an answer quickly because i've only got 4 Gb's left on my mac partition and 40 Gb's left on the windows one.

I've tried VolumeWorks 1.5 from a bootable DVD but for some reason when I open it and select my hard drive, the left column where a list of my partitions should be is blank, and all the buttons on the bottom are blanked out except "close" and "rebuild".
I was going to try booting from CD and running disk utility to accomplish this, but most of the stuff I've read says that shrinking a partition with DU will erase the data. ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 320 GB Western Digital drive connected to my Macbook Pro 5,1. I have 2 partitions on the WD drive, my Time Machine partition and a FAT32 partition of about 32GB. My Time machine partition is getting pretty close to being full, and although I know that Time Machine will just delete older backups if its partition is full, I don't really have a need for the FAT32 partition anymore.
In Disk Utility, by selecting the external drive and choosing the 'Partition' tab, I am able to erase the FAT32 partition and leave a free space on the drive, but I can't find a way to expand the Time Machine partition to use this space. The TM partition has a slider, but it can only decrease the size of the partition, not expand it.
The free area on the disk shows up in the partition map as a greyed-out area above the TM partition. Any ideas? Is it possible to extend the TM partition to the rest of the disk?
I would never opened a topic like this if I had not a similar experience with expanding 'dmg' in the past!
A truly bad experience! It is supposed that using 'disk utility' I can resize-expand-make bigger any dmg file. Every time I tried it, it was a totally fail process.The 'disk image' dmg did not resized at all.
I do not know why, it just happened to me many times.
Does anyone had similar experience? Any solution to this? So if I have a dmg that need to be bigger, I create a new one from scratch and I copy paste files from the old dmg.I need to do the same with hard disk partitions, using disk utility once again. I am trying to resize the bootcamp partition on my iMac. I opted for the 32gb option when I first ran bootcamp but I wanted to add more. I read online I could do this my shrinking the Mac HDD and then creating a new partition FAT32. Then open up windows and open up disk management. Then right click my bootcamp hdd and click "extend volume." however, that option is greyed out. Am I missing something or is there some other technique?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use my 500 GB external HD as solely a storage drive now whereas it used to be storage and backup, with separate partitions for each. I have deleted the backup partition (the first partition) successfully with Disk Utility, but how can I resize the remaining partition into the free space before it on the disk? I can't drag it or enter the desired size in the text box, it doesn't seem to want to get any larger. Is there any way to do this without purchasing ipartition? I have an old version from Tiger, but I'm not sure if that will work safely on leopard, and I do not want to lose my rather larger collection of ripped dvds on this external drive. Here's a screen shot of what i now see in disk utility.

The idea was I would have a reserve volume I could load another system onto and it would come in handy.
The problem is that I didn't know that the startup drive was going to have to have an accounting application running on it that needed to have its data on the same volume. This data is growing rapidly and I am in need of expanding the volume. I have a backup of the whole setup.
From what I can gather from my searches, I should be able to resize these partitions but I wanted to know if anyone out there had a similar setup and had tried this. Right now there is no data on Partition 2 so my thought was to delete this partition from the RAID set and then expand Partition 1, doubling the size of my startup. This would get rid of my backup startup but I could achieve that with an external drive.
My hesitation is because I can't find any reference to doing this with a RAID 0+1 scheme (I would have preferred 1+0 but the RAID card didn't offer it...).

Basically, I created a BC partition for my W7, however, I only gave it 32gigs of space (I only wanted to use it for gaming).However, now I want to install Autodesk 3D Studio Max 2010 on W7, however I don't have enough space on my BC partition to do that...I've researched enough to know that I will need to use one of the following programs:I've read up on all the programs and done some research on them.
Ive noticed most people are having problems with all of these programs when trying to backup a W7 image whilst on Snow Leapord (Mac OS x 10.6, which I am running)I know that is the function of the 3 applications above... But to my knowledge... In theory - I should be able to just backup my W7 using a reliable backup program (Can someone recommend any?) and then delete the existing BootCamp partition, create a new one of 100gig and then just load up the backed up image for Windows 7...
im on a goal to resize my bootcamp partition... im running 10.6.4 with Win7 in Bootcamp... i made a mistake of only making a 80GB partition for windows 7.... now i want to make it bigger, i have read up on a number of methods but most are outdated and users report issues with windows 7 and SL so i'm a lil stuck... this is my idea
I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?
A few minutes ago I imported all my settings from my imac onto my macbook using the migration assistant, but now some of my windows in things like Safari and iTunes are too big for the screen, and the resize thing in the bottom right corner is too far down to reach it (not on the screen at all) ... And some of my iTunes Buttons are too far down to reach, anyone know of a way to fix this? its driving me insans!

Not sure what program I should use or exactly what I need to do to get a correct sized print.

I am trying to get rid of a dock annoyance:
1. Put your dock on the bottom of the desktop, in auto-hide mode.
2. Open an app, say Safari.
3. Resize the window in order to get to the bottom of the screen.
4. Hide it (cmd H).
5. Restore it (alt tab).
6. Now the window has been resized on its bottom border by a few pixels (because of the dock position).
How do I avoid that ? I'd like to use all my pixels.
I participate in several forums where I often post pictures of things. But the photos have to normally be less than 100KB. I don't have any purchased photo editing software yet for my Mac, is there something in iPhoto or somewhere else that would allow me to resize a photo for posting? If there's nothing on my machine that will do it, does Aperture have such a function?

Progressing quite well with my conversion over to Mac - few teething problems sorted.
However, got one, quite a basic one that is doing my head in.
Most applications I can resize the window, however, on itunes, when it opens, the corner that you would normally use to resize is obscured by the tool bar thing along the bottom (sorry, cant recall the name, is it the dashboard?) anyway - have tried moving this dashboard, but still cant get to the corner I need - when you minimize, it just goes to a very small box.
I know its something very simple, but cant find the right thing to do.

I'm used to windows and trying to get used to OSX. One thing I just noticed is that I can only resize the window from the bottom right corner. In windows you can resize from any corner. I can't seem to find a setting to change this. Is there a way to do it or am I stuck only resizing from bottom right?

What you can do is browse any folder and choose multiple images.
Then, you right click and on the menu that pops up you get an image resize option.
You can resize to the size you want - hey presto, all images are resized (and optimised)!
Is there some way to turn off the resizing of Icons on the desktop? I am getting tired of accidentally resizing my icons and moving the icons from where I am used to seeing them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell I just switched over to Macs on sunday with a new MacBook. Coming from Windows XP theres two things I miss and I want to know if there are any applications to chnage this:
1) In OS X you can only resize windows from the bottom right corner which gets kind of annoying. In Windows XP you can resize from any corner including the sides with that little black adjuster arrow, is there any program or any way I can naturally do something similiar in OS X?
2) I want my Dock to be more like the Start Bar in Windows XP. Meaning that I want all my programs to stop at the Dock on the bottom. Some program automatically stop at the Dock and can't be pulled down behind the Dock, such as iPhoto. Other programs however, such as iTunes, can be pulled down behind the dock and I don't like that. Is there any way I can naturally change this or any application I can download?
IMNSHO resizing windows only from the bottom right corner sucks big time. I'd like to be able to resize windows from any corner or side.

i'm trying to use gimp on my new macbook and the toolbox window has moved into a position where the bottom corner is off the bottom of the screen. i therefore cannot resize it! i've been googleing everything i can think of but cannot find an answer on how to resize this (i have tried a few solutions which only seem to apply to regular osx apps). i am more than willing to set the window sizes in some sort of a config file, but i can't find one.
