OS X :: Parental Control Time Limits Broken In Snow Leopard?

Sep 20, 2009

I have a (managed) user account set up for my 6 year old son with time limits. I limit him to 30 minutes M-F and 60 minutes Sat & Sun. Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard the time limits don't seem to be functioning e.g. it doesn't tell him his time is almost up and it doesn't cut off his usage. I've even gone so far as to blow away his user and set up a new one and it doesn't seem to have helped. It still doesn't recognize time limits.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Safari, Secure Connection To Sites And Parental Control?

Mar 22, 2012

I'm setting up Safari for a child, and have Parental Controls enabled and am customizing the list of sites that can be visited. I'm allowing [URL] and have multiple http and https Netflix URL's allowed. However, when I test accessing this site, Safari gives an error stating that it cannot establish a "secure connection". The same computer, with a different account, can access the same URL without the error. My assumption would be that since I specifically allowed several [URL] URL's, that this would work just fine. By granting specific access, you are bypassing Parental Controls in a controlled way.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: No Parental Control Icon In System Preferences

Mar 27, 2012

I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacMini Server. Just set up the computer up and am trying to get user accounts for all of my family members. I have set up two Admin accounts, and want to set up a standard account for my child utilizing Parental Controls. When I set up the user, there is no box to check that says "Enable Parental Controls" and there is not Parental Control Icon in the System Preferences>System tab next to the "Accounts" icon. I have updated the system software using "Software Update" and have no programs or apps installed that did not come with my server from Apple.

Apologies if this is known, and yes I searched and could not find anything about this issue. And no I am not referring to smcfancontrol, but Fan Control. Is it working or not working for anyone else under Snow Leopard? This is on a Jan/09 UBMP 17. I upgraded to Snow leopard, found that the pref pane was not working, uninstalled it, reset the SMC, rebooted and reinstalled. Still not working.

OS X Mavericks :: Parental Control Time Limit Not Working?

Aug 19, 2014

For example, i set up the time limit to 1/2 hour for both week days and weekends. But I still I can get more than 6 hours. I searched the forum, historically Apple OSX has parental control bugs in versions.

What's the fix or remedy or other apps to limit the hour? Some people point out "time limit" and "bed time" conflicts with each other, check only one on solved some people's problem. But it doesn't work for me

OS X :: Parental Control Logs Not Working

Jul 28, 2009

I'm running 10.5.7 and have a parental controlled account where I control what applications can be run. The internet isn't restricted, but it is supposed to log what websites have been visited. The problem is, nothing is being logged. There are sites that show up in Safaris history, but nothing shows up in the parental control logs. I was on the phone for over an hour with Apple, and they don't know what is going on. They said they would send the problem to the engineering department and they would get back to me in 3-5 days. The logging worked at one time. Does anybody know what could be going on, or how to fix it, or how to keep it from happening anymore.

I use ComputerTime application for managing parental controls on my Windows machines. However, I do not know of an equivalent application on the Mac. Is there an application for the Mac that offers parental control like:

1. Specifying when a child can log in to the Mac?
2. What day a child can use the Mac?
3. How much time is allowed per day for use on the Mac and where each session totalled up will not exceed the total allowed time per day?
4. How long each session is allowed?

Software :: Parental Control - Unable To Browse

Mar 13, 2010

When I set parental controls to automatically prevent access to adult web content, it also seems to be causing a problem with access to gmail, ebay, and some other websites. However, instead of getting the "oops!" message you get when you try to access an adult website, the page says, "Failed to open page. Safari can't find the server." When I change parental controls to allow all web content, the problem goes away. When I change it back, it comes back, so I'm sure it's the parental control setting.

I've already tried adding ebay, gmail, etc, to the list of allowed websites in parental controls, but it has not worked. How can I fix this problem?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Firefox 13 Unchecks Itself In The Parental Controls' List Of Allowed Applications?

Jul 2, 2012

Seems to be Firefox related, but I think it simply should not be possible within the Mac OS (10.6.8): I have used Firefox for years, but since I updated to version 13, this is what happens: My son has an account under parental control, and he is allowed to use selected applications one of which is Firefox  Now after the update every time he launches Firefox, he gets a message he is not allowed to use it. Even when I enter my name and password to permit Firefox "forever" to launch, the message comes again... And again. If I select "once", Firefox launches.

And no matter what I try, as soon as there was one attempt to launch Firefox on my son's account, the related checkbox in the Parental Controls is unchecked again. So what is going on here? Could this be caused by a corrupted file (maybe containing the list of allowed applications), and how could I repair that?

Applications :: Any Good Keyloggers For Parental Control Purposes?

Oct 10, 2006

My mother is switching to mac soon, mostly likely an iMac to use as a family computer for her and my youger sister. She likes what sees so far especially in parental controls. However, she wants to be able to keep tabs on my younger sister to make she isn't going to places or saying things she shouldn't be on the web; she wants a second layer of security (she worries that she can get around things parental controls because she is very computer savvy). I figured a keylogger would be the best thing because we could keep track of everything she types on the mac. Does anyone know any good (free) keyloggers for mac?

MacBook Air :: Remote Parental Control Not Recognising Administrator

Dec 10, 2014

Setting up a Macbook air for one of the kids, ready for Santa to deliver.

Everything seems fine (new Apple ID's , creation of a happy family in the cloud etc) ...until I wanted to set up the Parental Controls.

I have added myself as administrator and reduced his account to standard as with the instructions I have seen elsewhere. I can set the constraints no problem on his computer.

However, even though I checked the "manage control from another computer" box on the MBA, the "master "iMac where I want to do the control will not let me.

I go into the iMac to do the Parental control, I see the MBA in question. I select, and when it prompts me to enter the administrator details; but it will not recognise me. This is the administrator id I created on the Macbook air.

I have tried several times, and after it fails, it seems to freeze the Parental Control Preference view , and won't allow me to select that machine again. I have to go out of preferences and return, unlock and try again - each time it fails.

Of course I can wrench the Macbook from his grubby hands each time I want to change the constraints; but being able to remotely do it from my evil genius' lair was what I wanted to do.

All machines mentioned have been Yosemite'd, and are all latest versions.

However, no apps can get DNS. Safari and Firefox report "offline" mode. Anyone else see this? A reboot is the only fix I've found, and that's a pain.

OS X :: SSH Broken After Snow Leopard Upgrade

Ok ever since the SL upgrade I cant ssh to my machine. I can't even ssh to it locally. I use ssh in order to work around the screen sharing without mobile me subscription. Ssh does not accept my password and after 3 failed attempts it quits. I've done ssh-keygen, sudo ssh... and even tried the full path /usr/bin/ssh (which I believed worked once) but I may have been hallucinating from all the madness. Here's the verbose logging...I'm afraid to muck with the ssh config files...Why would this all of a sudden stop working?

OS X :: Getting Info And Snow Leopard Either Bugged Or Broken

Wanted to get the file size for all the files in a folder. Common sense would lead someone to believe that if that have 40 things selected and you ask for the info on them, it would give you all the info in one thing (ie total size, file types etc) but 10.6 is just being stupid about it: are there any other ways (or patchs) to stop this from happening?

OS X :: Install Snow Leopard With Broken Optical Drive In MBP?

Sep 27, 2010

So my optical drive in my MBP will read single layer DVDs but not dual layers. I am currently running 10.5 and my end goal is to have 10.6 (snow leopard) on my MBP with a clean install. Problem is, my purchased copy of 10.6 can't be read by my MBP. Here is my thought process: 1st Option: Use the Remote Install OSX application to use another drive on my network. So I boot up the program on other macs in my house, restart my MBP while holding down the option key. Yet, my airport network never shows up on the white apple loading screen (just Macintosh HD). So I can't get the remote drive stuff to work.

2nd Option: Use an external HDD. Problem is is that I didn't know you have to have a blank partition for this. I have a 1TB WD External HDD with 18gigs free, but in order to make a partition, I would have to erase the drive first (am I correct on this?) I can't lose this data, and I don't have another external HDD. So is my only other HDD option to buy like a USB 16gig thumb drive (or really really cheap external), partition it with snow leopard dmg on it, and install with that?

OS X :: Installing Snow Leopard On Macbook With Broken Display

Sep 1, 2009

Alright first of all, Hello to you all, I've been reading this forum for a couple of month even though this is my first intervention and i need a tip. Alright my situation is the following: I have:

-Macbook Pro Unibody
-Macbook C2D
-Snow leopard Disc x2
-Snow leopard image I cloned to a hard drive partition.

The situation is I have bought two licenses for Snow leopard because i have two macs. The macbook pro is the computer i use everyday and is fully functional. The macbook however took a big drop about a year ago and the display was totally broke along with the DVD and the hard drive. I retrieved an old HDD i had with leopard installed and put it in the macbook along with an external display and i now use this computer as a media center. The problem is i want to install snow leopard on it. The DVD drive is broken hence the reason i made a disc image and i wanted to install from the disc image. SO i restart the macbook with the alt key and as expected, the image from the usb drive is detected and i launch the install. The problem comes from the fact that when the installation starts, the external display is set as secondary display and i cant control the installation which is displayed wont eh broken display. Is there a way to remotely install SL or to set the external display as only display at boot through holding a bunch of keys?

OS X :: Google Street View BROKEN Under Snow Leopard

Sep 4, 2009

When I attempt to access Street View under Snow Leopard (by dragging the little "person" icon to a street), instead of getting a photo of the street, I get a black screen. No photo at all. If I then click Street View's full screen icon, I finally get a photo but the navigation bars are no longer overlaid on the screen. And you can't "grab" the photo with the mouse pointer to change your perspective view (can't look up, down or to either side). Further, the navigation icons in the upper left corner don't work either. You're simply stuck with the single view photo that comes up at first.

I had already installed the latest Flash version (10.0.32.18) before I ever tired Street View. Maybe that's the problem? Snow Leopard shipped with an older version of Flash (10.0.23.1) and maybe Apple did that for a reason? I had also already installed Apple's most recent update for JAVA before trying Street View. On Apple's support forum and Google's help forum, I've found about 5 other people that are reporting the problem too. One guy said he was having the same problem and then it magically went away on its own? But I'm sure 99.9% of the folks that have already installed Snow Leopard simply haven't gone to try Street View yet. I bet it's broken for a LOT of people.

Mac Pro :: Random Crashes And Reboots - Snow Leopard Broken

Sep 8, 2009

Installed Snow Leopard on my 1st gen Mac Pro and had nothing but trouble: random crashes and re-boots that have gotten so bad that now it crashes during boot up. Part way through the spinny wheel you get after the boot-up Apple logo either half the screen goes orange (!) and it crashes, or the centre of the screen corrupts and it crashes or I get the multi-lingual grey screen of death. Same happens if I boot from the Snow Leopard DVD. Pretty unhappy as you can imagine: can anyone suggest anything? I've tried re-seating the graphics card , blowing out the dust and I've rotated all the memory: makes no difference.
