OS X :: Office 2008 And Expose In Snow Leopard
Nov 16, 2009
User here with a MacBook Air, Snow Leopard, Rev B SSD:
Questions -
1. For everyone running SL, do you prefer Office 2004 or Office 2008?
2. I heard a rumor that SL fixed the problems between Office 2008 and Expose - is that true?

So I installed Snow Leopard last night, and everything's been going smoothly; that is, until I needed to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008. I uninstalled it when it was buggy, as I figured it was a simple issue that could be fixed with a reinstall, but now it refuses to even install. I can get through the installer, up until the point where it tells me to select the components to install, and then when I click "Install"- nothing happens. Here's a video of exactly what's happening, to better diagnose the problem. what's going on?

Word 2008, Excel 2008, and Powerpoint 2008 are unable to save to windows shares when saving a file in compatiblity mode such as a .doc file. It saves fine saving the files in the new xml format such as a .docx file. I have double checked the share permissions and they are fine since I can save in the new document format and in other applications such as dragging and dropping files in finder. The error message I get when trying to save to a windows share from Word is as follows....

So I got Office 2011; it's pretty good stuff. Unlike Windows based systems, it did not remove Office 2008 which is different. I am wondering if there is any reason that I should or should not remove 2008 since I have 2011 (exact same programs).

I've been trying to install the 10.5 version of Expose into 10.6 but I don't know enough about OSX to know how to make it work. I've tried installing the package from the 10.5 instal disks using Pacifist but I still the the 10.6 Expose behavior.
If people can get the 10.5, Base 2 Finder working in Snow Leopard it should be possible to get Expose working also.

This mainly seems to be a display bug and has been happening since the upgrade to Snow Leopard on my 2008 white macbook.
It happens about 70% of the time I switch windows with expose.
Is anyone experiencing similar problems? I'm not having any of the other display issues such as in the other threads with the weird shadows or boxes or anything.

when I run Office 2008, all seems to be fine, but if I run Excel and another office application is opening at the same time, I get the crash screen with the different languages to restart the computer. Have snapshot of the report here [URL] This is a lab image with a Mac Pro, 10.5.4, 2 gig Ram 160 HD At first when the image was created and I keep getting this I though maybe there was an issue with the install so ended up re0installing the OS, software etc. Still had the issue, so grabbed another tower with same specs. Now all is installed with this 75 GB lab image, all customized and still crashing. I have tried with the stripped down default user profile that not even setup with the Office user account. Which means when I open office I need to do the registration. Once that is done, when I open the apps, the computer crashes. Tried this because I though it was a bad copy of the office .plist files. My next option is to remove Office 2008 and install Office 2004 and install Open Office in case users need to open .docx files.

Prior to Snow Leopard, you could use swipe up to see the desktop and then swipe down to come back to your previous window. Now you must swipe up again to go back to your original window. The up/down movement is ruined in Snow Leopard...

I forgot my administrator's password for my home computer. I purchased office 2008 for mac with a free upgrade to office 2011. I upgraded it to 2011 when it came out (late 2010/early 2011). I have since made a new password and forgotten what it is. The mac tells me to reinstall my microsoft office but when I do, with the office 2008 disc, it tells me I have MORE RECENT SOFTWARE and to use that. I did it on line and cannot find it again.

Microsoft on Tuesday released stability and performance updates for Office 2004 and Office 2008 for Mac, both of which also patch vulnerabilities that could allow an attacker to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory by using malicious code.
Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update
Aside from the security fix, Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update [14.5MB] also updates the Japanese postal code dictionary in Entourage and fixes an issue that causes Word 2004 to close unexpectedly when opening a document that contains a numbered list.
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.2 Update
The 12.1.2 update for Office 2008 for Mac [159.6MB] is more substantial, repairing a global issue that prevented all Office 2008 applications from running AppleScript scripts from the Script menu, while also delivering a number of individual fixes for Word, Excel and Entourage.
More specifically, Microsoft said Word should now launch more quickly and tables will no longer included random instances of bold text. Other changes improve the display of form fields and the reliability of headers & footers in the word processing application.
Meanwhile, Excel should now open spreadsheet files that contain invalid characters and see improvements to the overall performance of calculations. Number formatting for some international languages and stability when saving workbooks that contain PivotTable reports has also been improved.
One of the major focus areas for Entourage was to improve stability when using Microsoft Sync Services, Microsoft said. In particular, Tuesday's update fixes an issue that where all contacts in Entourage or in the Apple Address Book would be deleted and re-created when you use Microsoft Sync Services. It should also prevent duplication of events and other items in Entourage or in iCal.
Other changes to Entourage focused on improving junk mail filtering, recurring calendar events, time zone information, embedded images, and the reliability when Entourage establishes a encrypted channel.
Student Office 2008 deal
Earlier Tuesday, Microsoft said it has teamed with a select few Apple authorized resellers like Amazon.com to offer students up to 30 percent off its various Office 2008 productivity suites when they're purchased alongside a new Mac before September 8th.
The offer translates into $15 off Office 2008 Home and Student Edition, $80 off Office 2008 Standard Edition, and $150 off Office 2008 Special Media Edition..
Amazon is also offering between $50 and $200 rebates on Apple's entire Mac line through August 25th.

Ready to install Office 2011 for Mac. Currently we are running Office 2008 for Mac.
What is the best way to eliminate Office 2008 and to ensure a clean Office 2011 install?
For most Mac programs, I would normally drag the application folder to the trash, and then do a library search for some entries related to the program. Will this work for Office 2008 to Office 2011? I ask because the M$ installers seem to more than simply add the app to your app folder and update the libraries - and don't get me started on the horrors of the Windoze registry errors.

So here is my dilemma. I got a letter a few days ago from the college I am going to, and it included a list of requirements if we were bringing our own computer. One of the requirements was if we had a Mac, to have Office 2008. I have talked to a friend who is replacing her current Macbook with another Macbook later in the summer, and we decided that when she bought her Macbook, that we could split the price of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Now, should I just go ahead and continue on with the plan with my friend, or what? Is there a huge difference in Office 2004 and Office 2008?

I'm using a MacBook, the late 2008 aluminum edition. I'm running Snow Leopard and have updated to 10.6.2. For the last few weeks, I've been having a problem where my computer switches in and out of Expose view (where you can see all the windows open at once) and normal view, even when I haven't touched the trackpad or pressed F3 on the keyboard. Sometimes it switches back and forth very rapidly, other times, it just switches into Expose, and then I have to click back out of it, and as soon as I do, it enters Expose mode again. I don't have any hot corners enabled, and the problem occurs even when I turn off 4 finger swiping on the track pad. I can't find any information about this problem anywhere, and I don't know what could be causing it or what I can try to fix it

My Mac book has an Intel 2.2GHz processor, 4GB of memory and 7.1 GB of free space on the hard drive. It comes up with a screen just saying it cannot be installed on this computer.

I'm sure most people suffer from this but here goes.
So I make a presentation on Mac Office powerpoint, everything is fine. I open it up at university on the PC, all is fine. I maybe change some text on a slide and save it again. Open the same file again on my Mac, and it won't open some silly error comes up saying trouble accessing file from mac HD.
Then luckily I have keynote, so I just open it in that and use that.
Point is why does this happen?? Whilst keynote is better, sometimes I have to edit things on a PC at work or uni and then it becomes a giant mess on my mac.
Is there a quick fix, or will I have to throw Mac Office into my growing pile of Microsoft related garbage.

The new iPhoto 8.1 update breaks the email functionality to Entourage 2008, if you're using Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. iPhoto 8.1 can no longer successfully email photos to Entourage 2008. It worked just fine with iPhoto 8.0.4, but no longer works with iPhoto 8.1. This is a SNOW LEOPARD PROBLEM... it works just fine under LEOPARD. The steps to reproduce this problem are as follows:
1. Change iPhoto's preferences to use Entourage as your email client.
2. Choose a photo.
3. Click on the "Email" button.
You will get an error message from the Finder that states "Microsoft Entourage got an error. Can't get content of window'". So you are not able to email a photo through Entourage this way anymore. You have to do it manually.

I use Citrix Web to access my office network. It was working fine on my iMac for several after I installed Snow Leopard. But today, I'm getting an odd error message. I log in, and then a box pops up that says I need to make sure that the remote server is listening on Port 1494. I am not able to connect to my office network. Has Snow Leopard changed anything so that another program is using that port? I have not upgraded my Macbook yet and I was able to connect, so I don't think my office network is the problem. I have tried Safari in both 32 bit and 64 bit, and I've tried more than one Citrix client. So there must be setting on my computer I need to change - if I could only determine what it is.

I am having an issue installing Snow Leopard on my computer. Every time I start the installation process, the process makes it to the first restart, and then crashes. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and using a early 2008 Macbook. I have tried verifying the disk, but Disk Utility says the disk is fine with no issues. The hard drive was recently replaced so I doubt that their is a problem there...does anyone have any advice on how I should install Snow Leopard?

After opening a MSfile the Leopard top menu when using Microsoft Word 2008 has been changed to Chinese. This issue only happen with this product and not with the rest of the Microsoft tools that I have installed in my MacBook (example: Powerpoint). I'm including a print screen (as you can see only the iOS menu is changed to Chinese and not the software menu). I extremely need to change it back to English!
