OS X :: Not Booting - Shows Bar On Start Up And Gets Stuck

I got a Filemate ExpressCard SSD but since I started running OS X from it I encountered serious problems. I had to install OS X quite a few times already but then I was able to backup with Time Machine. So now I have a working backup but I restored about 203 times already but I still have the problem of my Mac not booting up. When it starts up it shows the grey Apple logo with a loading bar underneath it which just gets stuck. I left it like that for several hours so that I know for sure that it was stuck. Anyways, right now I am on a restored Time Machine backup but Time Machine won't backup. It gets stuck and so I thought I open Console.app. What I found is this which doesn't really have anything to do with Time Machine but probably with my booting problems
My Macbook is currently stuck booting up in windows 7. My shift key also appears to be stuck so holding the Option key when booting up to choose a start up disk isn't an option (it doesn't work). I do not currently have access to an external keyboard. I do have the startup disk. I'm wondering if I can use the startup disk to reset the systems startup disk? Are there other options?
My MBP was working fine and then froze while I was on the internet. I turned it off and on again by holding down the power button. It powered on and froze on the white/gray screen with the Apple logo with the spinning wheel underneath it. I restarted it again by holding down the power button. Now it freezes on an all white/gray screen. I've tried starting it with the disk in it and holding down the "C" key and starting it and holding down the shift key after I hear the start up tone. Neither have worked.
Just installed Windows XP using bootcamp and usually no problems switching between operation systems. Recently started using an USB modem for my wireless internet connection. Internet works on both Mac and windows through the modem. Now the problem is whenever I restart or switch on my computer, it shows a black screen if I choose windows partition to boot. No problem if I start through mac partition. If I unplug the USB modem, everything goes fine and I have to plug the modem after starting windows. Is there any solution so that I can permanently plugin the USB modem and avoid booting problem?
The last time I used my imac I had a picture disc in it and shut it down properly. Now it will not boot up. I get the screen with the apple and the turning wheel and nothing past that. A disc is stuck as well. Any ideas on either, to get me my computer back?
I started up my 24" iMac today and it just got stuck on the grey screen before the apple logo appears. I reset the PRAM and I tried using the OSX disc and holding down C. I got to the disk utility and it freezes. I am stuck using my bottom of the line laptop untill I can work around this.
I just purchased Windows 7 to dual-boot on my brand new 2010 MBP. After I installed Windows 7, I inserted my MacOSX Snow Leopard install DVD so I could install the drivers. A message came up saying "This installation isn't compatible with this computer". So I restarted my computer and when it was booting up it gets stuck at the grey screen with the apple logo and rotating wheel. After a while a grey curtain comes down with a Power Icon in the background and a window saying "You must restart your computer" in a variety in languages. I tried restarting and the same screen comes up every time. I've tried all the boot key commands such as holding shift. But each time it doesn't recognize it and proceeds to the grey screen of death. I'm completely stuck here and need help ASAP. I would like to do a hard reset on my MBP, but I can't since I can't boot to MacOSX and when I boot to Windows 7, it runs for about 2 minutes and completely freezes, causing me to force restart.
When booting up on my Mac Book Pro side it gets stuck on a gray screen and wont boot even when in safe mode. I have cleared the P/Ram and still have acces to the partioned windows side on the same computer. How should I procede to get my Mac OS running again.
I have an older but babied 2008ish Macbook Pro. Today upgraded my 3GS to os 4 with no problem. I downloaded a couple things but didn't go crazy today. I left work and shut lid. When I got home it was stuck on the screen saver password for a long time. I turned off the unit and now it just boots to a white screen. I can boot via OSX disc but it also doesn't see HD. This is a 500gb Seagate drive and I'm screwed if it's dead. Any suggestions to at least get to my bootcamp partition?
My 24 inch iMac is not getting pass the apple logo. It acts like it's loading, but then the little progress spinner (not sure of the name) stops spinning after 2-3 minutes. It never wants to get pass that. I'm running the latest version of Lion.

So far I've tried using disc utility on my snow leopard disc....it doesn't load. I've tried to start in safe mode...it loads about half way and stops. Oddly enough windows xp works in bootcamp. It runs okay besides when I try to move windows. I'm guessing it's the graphics card. No idea really. Here is a video I made to show you what I mean: [URL]. I've also tried installing a new 1TB HD and it still won't boot from a disc for some reason. I tried install snow leopard through the internal superdrive and with an external superdrive. No dice.
i have a macbook pro 15' late 2011 and it stopped booting. The apple disappear and the. It get stuck in a gray screen.I saw on the web that it would be possible to apply a software fix, disabling the video card. IN my country a new macbook is about 3.000 usd, so buying a new one is not an option for me.Â

Just got a brand new MacBook Pro 15" a week ago with the standard specs. I have noticed whenever I'm playing a video that's bought or downloaded from iTunes, a pixel on the up-left corner of the screen starts flashing between blue and black like crazy, at first I thought it was a physical defect, but when I stop playing videos the stuck pixel disappears. I ran a number of test and confirmed it wasn't the screen's problem. All the firmwares are up to date by the way.

I've had my iBook for about a year and a half now, haven't had any trouble with it until now. For some reason it won't start up. It's plugged in and the green light is on but it's just not booting up. why my iBook isn't working all of the sudden?
I've just had two kernal panics. The second time it was during start up. Now it won't start up at all. Gets to the White screen and tells me to restart. I bought this 8 months ago and have had nothing but trouble.
Here's the rundown: my uncle gave me a pristine Powerbook G4 Titanium edition. Good computer, 15.5" screen, definitely worth keeping. He wiped the thing clean before giving it to me. The problem is the internal CD drive is super flaky and won't take an bootable CD well. It took my Tiger bootable once or twice and bonked out during the installation. Now, I can't get anything. BUT, I have a nice external firewire 400 CD/DVD drive. I hit option and can see the disc, but the PB won't take it. Also, of course I hit C on startup to try and load from the CD. Hasn't taken since the first few tries.
my macbook was almost dead on power when I shut it down. I couldn't charge it because I was on a plane. Anyway, I plugged it in recently and tried starting it up, it makes the start up sound but won't get passed a blank white screen. Is there anyway to fix this? I've heard reinstalling the startup cd might work, but will I lose my files on it? All the pictures of my dog that just passed away on it, and I don't want to lose these. I just got the right cds to back them up and was going to.
My G4 powerbook has been saying recently that the start up disk is full, so i tried to empty some stuff off it. But not long after this when i tried booting it up the normal happens at first ie the t'ing' start up sound and the apple sign with the little timer going round but it does nothing else, it just carries on going round. I have tried re setting it and looked on help sites like this to try and override it etc but nothing seems to work!
start up I get a black bar one inch from the left, approx 4 inches in diameter running from the top of the screen to the bottom. The Apple 'logo' plus all the finder 'words' appear on the right hand side of this black bar. The cursor will not go beyond the black bar. It's as though it hits a wall.
When I start my macbook If I don't hold the options key it goes straight to an apple than circle with line through it. If I hold options key I get two hard drives one that says just hard drive one that says windows. Windows seems to work fine other than the missing drivers for the Ethernet, wireless airport, and a few others. I have tried everything. I for some reason cannot get to the mac side. It doesn't even show up and nothing relating to bootcamp shows up. I split the partitions 35G to windows the rest to "mac" side. I would be just as happy with installing the drivers if I could get them installed I know very little about Mac's and should have left well enough alone.
have a early 2011 MBP running OSX Mavericks. I use my mac everyday both at home and school. This morning when I opened the mac, the screen was frozen. I simply restarted the mac, and it doesn't go beyond showing a prohibitory sign. I have tried many things..Â
1. Restarted the mac, while holding the Option key (selected Recovery HD), after waiting for nearly 10 mins, the system loaded into recovery disk ( but the twist was, in the disk utility, my SSD was not found/shown)Â
2. Then thought the SSD was dead.. So asked the IT guy to see if he can retrieve the data (removed SSD out of the mac and he used an external hard drive enclosure and the SSD was instantly recognized, saved the data). Here I did two things
   A. First, asked my friend if I could mount his SSD in my Mac and see if the system starts. Even using a different SSD, my mac still showed the prohibitory sign.
   B. Then l installed my SSD into his Mac.. System booted as normal (basically it was all there, but on his Mac)Â
3. So ruled out that my SSD was faulty. Then using the internet based Apple Hardware Test (AHT), I found no troubles with any of the mac components.Â
At this point, I don't understand what is causing my Mac not to go beyond the prohibitory sign? Could it be something as silly as the internal hard drive cable or something more complicated as the logic board? In which case, they should have been detected during the AHT?Â

i have an ibook g4, and was using it just fine the other night, then when i came back to it a few minutes later it had shut off completely. now when i boot up, the computer freezes at the spinning gear startup screen or at the blank blue screen immediately after the spinning gear. it will boot in single user mode, but it won't boot up with my os x install disc. does anyone know any unix i could try to use to get my mac up and running again, or has anyone had this same problem and knows a fix for it?
A friend of mine brought over his 14" iBook G4, 1.33GHz, 60GB HDD and 1.25 GB RAM. The problem with it is that upon start-up, the grey screen with the apple/turning gear comes up, then after a few moments a blue screen will appear, though no box showing the start-up process. I've run a few basic diagnostics on this, including the lovely disk utility (which did nothing), I've run fsck, zapped the PRAM, etc, no success as of yet. At one point, I received a screen with alternating folders, one showing the smiley mac face, the other folder with a flashing "?". I cannot replicate this for the life of me. I have attempted to acquire files via TDM, though am not able to see the hard drive despite using 2 different laptops. Possibly the firewire cable itself is spent, though it's brand new! Here is where I become increasingly frustrated: I ask my friend for the boot disks as the ones for my own 12" iBook don't work (for whatever reason). He tells me that he loaded Leopard this summer (currently running 10.5.2, no updates loaded since), then proceeds to bring over boot discs for a MacBook...:headdesk: To begin with, it seemed like the HDD was fried, however, after running disk utility (and not hearing any negative sounds), it does appear that the HDD is fine. I'm thinking a kernel panic, though not sure how to resolve these.
Well I had a kernel panic yesterday and now im stuck at start up becuase everytime I reboot the computer it takes me to the kernel panic and I tried to boot in single user mode and tried to do fsck repair but when I booted in single user mode it just stoped loading at system uptime in nano seconds: 753286880 and then I tried to boot in safe mode but had no luck it didnt even go in safe mode it just went straight to the kernel panic I also already zaped the pram but still no luck and I dont have the mac OS X install disks.
Tried all the tips I can find but no joy. Able to boot in safe mode but nothing else. Can't use Lion Recovery and unable install Snow Leopard from disk as it gets stuck on the gray screen again.
Today i powered up my iBook G4, after a long time of waiting for the blue bar on the start up screen to reach the end, it became stuck once it had reached the end, i left it for a hour or so on this screen, and it hasn't got past it, i did a hardware test, and everything is fine, although it took about 8 minutes to complete the 'memory' test, so i'm thinking it could be a RAM problem ?, what do you guys think ?
EDIT: Just used disk utility and apparently there is a problem with the disk, that it can't fix, so i'm gonna have to reinstall OSX
