Sep 25, 2010I just discovered that the MacFUSE Preference pane has been installed without my knowledge. How can I find which program installed this?

OS X :: Cannot Remove Shapeshifter From Preference Pane
Jun 7, 2009I had shapeshifter for all of about 20 minutes just to mess around with it. So now, i've deleted it, and it has its preference thing stuck on my preference pane.
When i try to right click it and remove it like that, it gives me a message saying an error occured.
When i look in the library folder, it simply isnt there.

Jul 12, 2009I just installed "Automatic" to my "other" section of my preference pane. I no longer want it. Using a mouse, i was able to right click and remove it from my pane, but in Spotlight, it still seems like its listed under system pref. how do i get rid of it all. Currently, if i select it in Spotlight, i am prompted to re-install to the pref pane.

Nov 8, 2009I can't open the Security preference pane in System Preferences. I can open desktop settings, spotlight, expos & spaces etc just fine, but the moment I click 'Security', I get the spinning beach ball, system preferences freezes and I have to force shut it down. I made a quick video using Screenflow to demonstrate the issue (the beach ball doesn't seem to appear in the video .. it did though)

Jan 6, 2009can someone using 10.5.6 on a Mac released before the new MacBooks please do me a favour and go to /System/Library/PreferancePanes and check if EnergySaver.prefpane is version number 4.0?
im using the Energy Saver preference pane which came with the new MacBook's Leopard install and i want to put back the old one back which came with Leopard installed on my Core Duo MacBook Pro but i lost my back up! so i want to know if the version from 10.5.0 is the same as 10.5.6. i hope i made sense .
p.s. i dont backup the system with Time Machine so i cant go back in Time and get it .

Aug 8, 2010I just did a fresh reinstall of 10.6 after my hard drive crashed on me last week. I'm reinstalling my preference panes, but am running into a problem. Whenever I try to install a preference pane for all users, it asking for my credentials as usual. Then the window becomes unresponsive and starts to pinwheel. When you check the dock, System Preferences is listed as "Not Responding". I've let it sit there for five or so minutes and nothing changes. If the preference panes comes with an installer (like iStat Menus) I have no issues.

It now reads "Block cookies Always" and says 37 websites stored cookies or other data. I looks like the choice to block cookies has little effect on Safari. Is there any way to protect yourself from unwanted cookies? By the way, in order to sign in to the Apple discussion website, cookies must be enabled.

Mar 19, 2012I just install Lion 10.7 from scratch using a bootable DVD I made from the Install Mac OS X Install ESD Dmg found within the app. After restoring my accounts and data from a time machine backup, everything seems to work fine except for 3 preference panes within the System Preferences, (Desktop & Screen Saver, Energy Saver, and Spotlight.) I've tried reinstalling Lion over the current installation, I've tried reinstalling the latest combo update, I've trying repairing disk permissions, I've tried installing System Preferences app as well as each individual .prefpane, none of which worked. When trying to run the preference pane I get:Â
"Preferences Error. Could not load Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane." Replace Desktop & Screensaver part with Energy Saver and Spotlight respectively for each pane. When I run the preference pane, here is the output from the console:Â
3/19/12 6:13:04.765 PM System Preferences: [NSPrefPaneBundle instantiatePrefPaneObject] (/System/Library/PreferencePanes/DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane): principalClass is nil.Â
All three give the same error, again replacing DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefpane with the corresponding pane.

Mar 30, 2008Tried Paragon. Thought it was great for about 30 minutes. Where can I learn more about fnding and installing and using MacFUSE and NTFS3g? New versions of Pargon are said to corrupt files and even with updates there is trouble moving large files. This is forum news on their site. Any solutions for large NTFS compatability in Mac Leopard environment that is reliable and verifiable.

Jan 5, 2011I accidentally updated MacFuse from 2.0.3 to 2.1.5 beta (was checking if there was a new beta version, went to uncheck "Show Beta Version" and stupidly clicked "install" instead). I can't remember if 2.1.5 beta was a "safe" release of MacFuse. I was checking for updates as I am going to rebuild the Windows install on my MBP and am now worried that 2.1.5 might cause issues. Is 2.1.5 beta "stable"? If not, is it possible to downgrade back to 2.0.3? I've read in a few random posts around the internets that say its not a good idea to do this.If I uncheck the "Show Beta Version" box, MacFuse wants to "update" from 2.1.5 to 2.0.3. Guessing that would be a very bad idea?

Dec 5, 2010Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
