OS X :: Installed SL On MBP - Keyboard No Longer Lights Up
Aug 30, 2009
I just installed Snow Leopard today and found out that my old Santa Rosa Macbook Pro 3,1 keyboard no longer lights up. I am not sure if this is an issue with the new OS or my system. Anyone can confirm that if their keyboard lights up with the santa rosa MBP?

In addition, I often shut down my APPs each day with the keyboard shortcut COMMAND-TAB.
HAS this happened to anybody else? Why?

My roommate spilled wd 40 on my keyboard and now some of the lights don't work. If I want to fix this issue, what do I have to replace. I searched threads and some people say just the keyboard and some people say keyboard and upper case. So what exactly do I need to replace?

The light sensor on both my MBP and my girlfriends Air makes the keyboard dim up and down all the time. Is there any way to keep the lights on the keyboard on at all times? Some third party application perhaps?

I just noticed this the other day when my friend had his day old MacBook out and I was helping him set it up. When I sat it next to mine, I noticed that his keyboard lights are WAY brighter than mine. Then I started realizing that they used to be brighter back in the day. What could be causing this? Could it be from an application? My MB is only 5 months old, and I've had the Moshi Clearguard for about 3 months now. Do you think the cover would have anything to do with the lights being weaker?

I was using my friend's MacBook pro last night and the screen suddenly won't work. I will pay for the repair but is there anything that I can do at home to fix it? I wanted to remove the battery like I do with my own laptop(pc) which usually works to reboot or fix a problem but there is not way to remove the Mac's battery )?

I made a thread recently but the issue was resolved by a simple time machine backup. However, I've only recently discovered that the issue is still here, as I had to restart my macbook for updates, and now the cursor is at the exact same spot as before (top left corner), and refuses to move. The keyboard does not work. I am running 10.5.6 on a first gen macbook.
If I hold down option while booting, I can use the mouse + keyboard fine, its only when it goes to login that problems occur. It even works fine on Vista. I have tried external keyboards, etc, to no avail, which suggests that its more of an OS bug, rather than a hardware fault. That and it works fine before login. I'm considering restoring once more, then manually backing up and doing a clean install.

I just recently upgraded my 2010 macbook pro RAM. I went from 4gb to 6gb and now my backlit keyboard is no longer working. I have tried messing with the keyboard settings as well as the F5 and F6 buttons. The keyboard does not even come on in low lit conditions. Why is my backlit keyboard no longer working?

I just installed 4GB memory into my 2.1 ghz white macbook. The memory is from crucial and it is for macs. I've pushed harder than should be necessary to try and set the memory in the slot. Its in there. When I turn my macbook on it goes to my log on screen. From there my keyboard and track pad do not work. It wont let me do anything. I can't type my password or move the cursor...? I'm completely lost!

I have a mid-2007 Macbook Pro (A1226). I accidentally spilt soup on it, and now the "z, x, c" keys no longer work. The apple store said I need a keyboard replacement. However, do you think that if I take apart the keyboard and clean it with rubbing alcohol, it will fix it? Or if not rubbing alcohol, what kind of solution could I use?

I have been using this keyboard shortcut which is Command-Shift-L for bullets in Outlook, Notes and almost any word processing applications. All of a sudden this seems to have gone and now replaced by a Google Search. I tried researching a lot on the internet and found many articles which confirmed that this was indeed a keyboard shortcut but I couldnt find even one which could tell me what happened to it and how to make it work again. I've got so used to this shortcut because my work involves mainly around drafting emails and documents.Â
I have Macbook Pro Retina 13inch 2013 model & running Mac OSX 10.9.4 OS.Â
Now I did find one website link which told me how to disable the Safari trigger for this shortcut and I was successful in removing that shortcut. But I am stuck at the point where it's just blank. So now when I press these keys, nothing happens because no shortcut is set to it.
I've already gone through many links which say create paragraphs, some links also say that Option + 8 key works for the bullets but that doesnt work for me either. However, I dont want that too. I would want the original shortcut which was there and how to get it back or even configure it back to the way it was.

I understand Time Machine taking a longer time initially when first installed, however my Time Machine seems to always be running, backing up ALL my files each time not just the newer ones. i.e. "it" (Time Machine) is always running.

I have a Mac mini (~2008) running Snow Leopard. I updated my software today (haven't done this in probably several months) and immediately afterword, my Apple aluminum wired keyboard no longer responds. (The mouse when attached through the keyboard also no longer responds.) However, the keyboard still functions just fine on a separate MacBook Pro that I have, it just won't work on the Mac Mini. (I tried different USB ports with no difference.)
I wasn't smart enough to write down what upgrades actually occurred prior to my last update, but there were only 4 items (I think one was Safari, one was iTunes). If there are no better ideas, I guess I will have to try a system restore from Time Machine which predates my latest bad "update". I'd rather not have to go there if I don't have to.

For no apparent reason the command-space keyboard shortcut no longer works for opening Spotlight. I go into the preferences for Spotlight and it shows no keyboard shortcut, I make it command-space again, exit, and it still doesn't work. If I go back into the preferences, it is blank again. What is going on?

I haven't made many posts here, but I know this is an excellent site. I have a Power Mac G5, Dual 1.8 GHz PPC (June 2004). I found some (4x1GB sticks) PC3200 Samsung Ram for it. I put it in the computer, turned it on, and the power light flashed twice, waited a while, then flashed twice again and kept cycling. After looking around a while I saw that that probably means it is incompatible ram (?).
The ram that I have has an "R" after PC3200. Is this a problem? Anyways, back to my story, So I put the ram back in that I originally had running and it does the same thing (with the flashing lights). I had to go at this point so I said f-it and I will work on the problem on Sunday or Monday. It is just bothering me why it is not working. Can anyone provide any insight? It may just be that the ram isn't properly seated. I really hope that is the problem,
PS: Information that was on the Samsung Ram:

My old PPC G5 has the front LED (white) flahing three times - I've looked at the various notes about the poddibility of this being a RAM issue, I've checked out the slots, cleaned them and the RAM sticks too, all to no effect. After being switched on for a while, the fans come on and I have a Hovercraft under my desk!

The backgrounds is a soft green/yellow tone.
What ever I do with the lights, they create banding in the animation and the result is that it lookes like bad compression.

I recently bought a G5 2 x 2.7 for a real cheap price (70 euros, yes its true) as the owner told me that the motherboard was bad and had the three lights problem and won´t boot Then I started reading about this problem (micro-fracture) and tried to find a solution for it. First I tried was the "hair-dryer", it worked but as soon as the motherboard got colder then it hanged as the ram problem came back. I was considering the "oven trick" but seemed too risky and also a lot of work to unassembly it, etc...Â
I bougth a heat gun for 16 euros (Leroy Merlin). It is able to heat up to 500 Celsius and had two modes. I assumed the low mode may be around 200 celsius or so. Then opened the powermac, and started heating the rectangle area between the two memory banks. Slowly, moving it around, heating (not over the ram, just in the middle area). A few times I turned the max power for the heat gun as my intention was to "melt' the micro-fracture.Â

Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.

When I was using Leopard and I hit "Print" I'd click the Preview button on the bottom left and Apple's "Preview.app" would open the document to be printed (with a Cancel & Print button at the bottom of the dialog box). Now in Snow Leopard, when I choose to see the finished product before I print, I click on "Preview" and Adobe Acrobat opens the item I want to print (which does not have a Cancel or Print button available).800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Mac OS X (10.6.1)
