Jan 27, 2010I'm trying to buy a new refurbish that will ship with Snow Leopard. I'm mainly buying it for the HD, RAM, and physical upgrades.
I have Final Cut Studio and Photoshop and I don't want to pay the $299 upgrade and rather stick with leopard on the new machine.
Is there any way I can uninstall Snow Leopard and install Leopard on the new mac so that I can continue to use my software?
I need to know before I purchase the new one ASAP so i can sell my older machine.

Aug 28, 2009So the question goes could Snow Leopard become Apples version of Vista? Before you scream hell no, let me ask you a few things and see if you agree. Everything I heard about Leopard was it was it's the best most stable OS ever made, and judging from a lot of people this is apples Best OS. Enter Snow Leopard- Lots of "under the hood" improvements 64bit faster, leaner but could this cause consumers a bunch of headaches?
Lots of compatibility issues, Buggy OS since its re-written lots of crashes and weirdness? I understand they are trying to move from 32 bit to 64 and using this new quasi 32/64 kernel and os but if consumers hears it's buggy, its slower (which some major sites are reporting in terms of graphics etc.) is Apple leaving the door open for ridicule (commercials) bashing Snow Leopard?
I am a windows and new OS X user so I like both, but if Snow Leopard requires a bunch of patches and fixes to get it stable and fast than what makes it any better than Vista was? For the record I am a Technet user as well and have been using the new Windows 7 x64 and it is rock solid, fast and stable. (minus the viruses). Don't get me wrong I am not bashing Apple I just got a system for Snow Leopard I am just asking if anyone here would be willing to criticize apple if the new OS is a mess?

Oct 13, 2009i just bought my first mac three weeks ago (woohoo!) after being a long time pc user. so far i can say that i'm enjoying my iMac and learning a lot of new things. i've been lurking on this forum for a while and most of my questions have been asked and answered by other members. this is my first post and i can't seem to find an answer in this forum or anywhere for that matter.
as i've mentioned, i purchased an iMAC about three weeks ago. it came pre-installed with leopard and a snow leopard software to upgrade -- which i did. i still have my laptop running with vista and i would like to network them together. i've been researching how to do this but most of the how-to's out there are for leopard or tiger OS and xp -- where i get stuck when i have to click on 'windows sharing' box since snow leopard doesn't have that option. can someone give me a step-by-step procedure on how to network both of my computers. i would like to mention that i have a home network and both computers are connected to the internet wirelessly. also, i would like for my entire computer to share, and not just specific folders.

Jul 4, 2010I need to either un-install leopard and re-install Tiger, or figure out how to get my ilife back. I don't know how. Changed everything but the serial number. Have 2006 Macbook pro. Came with tiger 10.4.8 and the disks. Worked fine. Then bought a retail DVD of Leopard 10.5.6 installed it , of course I selected install and erase and then lost my ilife and my mind. For three days and nights I have tried to fix this, and I am not a Mac whiz. Tried reinstalling Tiger, pwr up, while pushing C ,d, and T .No go. Says drive won't accept it Tried erasing the Hard drive with disk utility. Won't let me. Tried re-partitioning. No go. Changed everything on the disk utility there. no go Finally I just re-booted with Leopard (works but still no ilife) and got on this Forum.

I can't connect to my printer wirelessly from the laptop (not compatible), so I want to be able to print files on my macbook from the other laptop (which is connected to the printer). I have all my settings exactly like these, however when I try to look at the Mac's files from Vista, I can get into the home folder but then cant access any of the other folders (music, documents, etc.) It simply says access denied, does not ask for a password or anything.

Jul 14, 2009I need to transfer several very large (20+ gig) files from my Leopard Macbook to a Vista Home Premium desktop. Due to the file size, I would like to use ethernet rather than WiFi. I can transfer files between my two mac laptops by just turning off airport and plugging an ethernet cable into both of them, they figure out what to do and I see the other computer in a finder window. Vista, however, isn't so easy. I have never done this before (I rarely use my vista PC), and I have no idea where to start.

I would like to use this drive to back up both my mac and my pc. I wolud like to partition this 200 GB drive and manually back up my pc to it, then I would like to be able to have a bootable copy of my Leopard on it while letting time machine do its regular back ups. Can someone please help me configure this. I have a mac book pro intel running Leopard.

Jun 13, 2009... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Software Update After Snow Leopard Clean Install
Jul 3, 2012Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store).When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March.In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update.This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto).The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

Apr 11, 2012iMac with 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, plenty of space available and currently operating 10.5.8. Now I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and since my Mac Mini came with it, I attempted to use the OSX install disc from the Mini in the iMac. I don't see a reason why this shouldn't work. There's no DRM or anything as far as I know. I'm just trying to bridge the gap so I can download Lion. I've looked into some of the advice others have given on this subject but my computer doesn't have those issues. I've tried booting from disc but I get the same message.

Dec 25, 2009I don't know about you, but Snow Leopard's aurora is so much cooler. I used a program called "Desktop 2 Login" to change the default wallpaper for the login screen to a different wallpaper. Using this same program I changed it back to L's Aurora. (Still in 10.5). When I upgraded to snow leopard, the login wallpaper did not change. It is still stuck on L's aurora. I have used about every method besides Terminal, and it won't change.
