OS X :: Home Sharing Not Sync Photos To Mac
Sep 18, 2009How do I get my photos from my ipod to my new mac?
View 3 RepliesHow do I get my photos from my ipod to my new mac?
View 3 RepliesI am trying to set up my home network to have the iMac share its' media library via iTunes, and access that media on other devices in the home. I would like to use iTunes Music Sharing, which is a very simple setup on the iMac and doesn't require any Apple ID to be entered on the devices accessing the shared library. However, I have found that the iPhone and iPad will not even see the shared media library when the iMac is set up to share its' library.Â
Only when I enable Home Sharing on the iMac, and configure Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad, do I see the shared library available on those devices.Â
I would like to allow other family members in the household to access the shared media library without requiring them to have my Apple ID and password. iTunes Music Sharing is supposed to allow this.Â
Does iTunes Music Sharing not work when trying to share to an iPhone or iPad?Â

I have a Nokia N78 cellphone which I can sync to my Macbook Pro using iSync. This works fine for photos, iCal, contacts but I what I would like to do is to be able to back up and view my sms on my Mac. Does anybody know if there is anyway of achieving this (free if possible)? If not, can anybody recommend a phone (other than the obvious iPhone) that has this syncing capability with Macs? I am looking to update my phone soon anyway.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a mac book pro, and i am trying to get my iTunes library from my pc computer to my mac. I have successfully authorised homesharing on both computers. My pc homesharing works, and allows me to see and use any music that i have bought from iTunes that is on my mac. However, it does not work the other way around, so my mac will not let me use/see any of my pc library (which is very large) via homesharing. When I click on the music menu on my mac and scroll down to my linked homeshare computer, it 'loads' for about a minute and then stops. This is very frustrating as my all my main music is on my pc library, and I don't want to have to download everything again, CD by CD.

Home Sharing sounds simple enough. Has anyone got this to work? I have searched for documentation on how to set this up and Apple has only made a video mentioning how to do this. It is vague though and doesn't explain the context for set up.

For example. Does Home Sharing only work with one account? What if I have an iTunes account and my Wife has an account, does one of us lose all of our content when we share? You are supposed to be able to transfer content among all local shares. What happens next? Do I need to authorize each file to work on another computer/iPhone/Touch? I have not gone all the way with setting up Home Sharing as I don't want to go down a long path and be stuck at the end.
This is my first Mac and I haven't purchased the Superdrive yet. I've been searching Google and found a lot of "hits" on the general topic, but either it's using a different OS (slight difference in screens) or glances over the topic. Can anyone recommend a good thread or site that details how to share a CD/DVD from a Windows XP (Home Edition) box over a home network (Linksys 4 port/wireless) to a MBA (new). The MBA successfully connects to the wireless router and I can access the internet. The Desktop (Windows XP box) successfully connects via RJ45.
Secondly if the above is fairly easy, I'd love to know how I can print from the MBA through the network connection to the PC. The printer is a Xerox WorkCentre M15 (it's a office grade machine which I had presumed works well in a shared environment.) The printer is connected to the PC via a USB connection. However I've ordered a Buffalo LinkStation (I think that's the name) which is a NAS box that has print sharing capabilities, so I could hook the printer up that way if necessary to use for both the PC & Mac.
I am thinking of getting an MBA as a second computer. One thing I am interested in, particularly after discovering how slow it is to access a remote drive on the AEBS, is screen sharing significantly faster?
1) If I was at home screen sharing from my MBP, would it work pretty much in 'real time'?
2) Same question but when on the road.
My man and I are finally trying to centralize our music and it involves taking it from my old Macbook (OS 10.4.something) and putting it onto his much more reliable PC with Windows XP. Anyway, iTunes is all updated on both. Home sharing is activated on both. I'm logged in on both with my itunes account info. I can see the library from each computer on the other one. Things should be great! However, when I'm on my Mac and I click on his library, I CAN see the few files in there. But when I'm on the PC and click on the library on my mac, it says it's loading and then either 1) just hangs until it quits or 2) says that there's some firewall business going on and I should check to make sure everything allowed on both computers. Well, I did that.
In fact, because I'm not the most computer savvy chick out there, I just turned the firewalls off on both computers. I'm sure there is still some more messing around to be done, but here's my big question: Which computer do you think is having the issue? If the Mac can see the PC's library, but the PC can't load the Mac's library, which computer likely has some wonky settings? Oh, and I did search through the forums (this is my first time here!) and I didn't find anything exactly like this. I have opened and closed iTunes a bunch of times, and turned home sharing on and off a few times since that has seemed to be some general advice out there. But it's still not working.
I don't see "Shared" in my iTunes, so I cannot use Home Sharing. How can I make "Shared" appear in my iTunes?

I'm thinking of getting a mac mini and moving my iTunes library to it and accessing the media via home sharing on my laptop. Is it possible to have my iPod/iPhone plugged into the laptop and sync it with the Mac Mini via home sharing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHas anybody else tried to use this feature? Here is the info: My notebook runs XP Pro 32bit and my desktop runs 7 Pro RTM 64bit. After I enter my iTunes account information for Home Sharing, the icon for it goes away. I have tried this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972 and it still didn't work. I know, but I wanted to unload all my iTunes music to my desktop.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI think this feature is really cool with sharing between family computers in the house. My question however is can I share it between my computer in one state and my home computer in a different state so that while I am at hotels or on the road I can access them through the internet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my old MBP with a new i7, everything is working save for this (so far). I de-authorized the old machine, authorized the new one, selected home sharing, mounted machines in both directions, opened iTunes on both machines. On both machines I get this message (see attached). Problem is I can't see where to achieve this. I went to security and turned off the OS Firewall on both boxes, and have no 3rd party FW app. Is there a place to "allow communication on port 3689"?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to limit what is and is not shared on home sharing (in iTunes)? My roommates keep swiping my ringtones, and it psyches me out when I hear my custom tone and it's not my phone doing it. I don't mind sharing music and videos, but I'd like to keep my ringtones to myself.

Since iTunes 9 came out the improved Home Sharing features has been quite useful to me, but today when I re-formatted my computer I ran into some problems. Both computers are using Windows XP, one is connected via Ethernet and the other one--which I reformatted, let's call it Computer B--connects to the router wirelessly.
I have activated each computer for Home Sharing properly but from Computer B, I can't access Computer A's library. On Computer A, I can access Computer B's shared library and listen to music as normal, at least for a moment - after being connected to the library for a period of about two minutes, it will suddenly disconnect itself and the icon will disappear so I am unable to reconnect. It's strange how I can connect to the library perfectly and just out of nowhere it will disconnect.
I have two computers setup using home sharing. The problem is, I want to rename the libraries on each of them so they make more sense to me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use Home Sharing between my iMac and a Windows Laptop. I have setup home sharing on each computer, but for some reason i can only see shared icon in my iMac iTunes library. On my Windows Latoptop the shared icon is not visible in the left hand pane. I have tried Authorising both computers, deauthorising both computers. Turning on, then off home sharing on each computer. I can still only see my laptops library on my IMac. When I really want to see my iMac's library on my laptop, as I am using my laptop for music at a party. Has anybody had problems when tying to use Home Sharing between a Windows Computer and a Mac?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've finally got hold of a 27" iMac that works, so now comes the process of transferring over all my media. I want to use my iMac as a media hub of sorts, and so have been transferring all of my music from my MacBook using the import feature on iTunes 9's Home Sharing. I just want to know if Apple places any restrictions on the files so, for instance, if I de-authorise my Macbook and/or delete the media files from it, will the music still be accessible as normal from the iMac (since it's been coped over and is stored locally), or will it create some kind of link to the original files and shout at me if they disappear? Or would I be safer using a traditional method of transferring the data?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI added a laptop to our home network that'll primarily be used by my wife. Most of our iTunes content is on my system. I wanted to share the library across the network and give her the option of importing tracks off mine. This will let the whole family use either computer to sync their iPods.
I set up the Home Sharing option using verion 9.0.2 on both machines. I didn't use a password. I can see the other computer's libraries under 'Shared' on each system and access their files to play. But when I select the library, I don't get the 'Import' option that is listed in the Help menu instructions. Without being able to import the tracks, we have to go back to the main machine to sync.
I have myself a 2010 macbook. go me. My friend here has an Acer (pc). We both have itunes (go us). I want to share my library with her because I've got like 5,000 songs that she wants. WELL. I can see her library on my mac but she cant see my library on her pc. Did I not do something right here? We're using home sharing. So she's technically on my account but I cant seem to be able to get her to see my library. I've check the firewall on both. I've checked everything. What do I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been unsuccessful in figuring out how to view iCal between computers at home. Can it be set so that updates on one can be viewed automatically on the other? I am wanting it so that it is running unified and not separately between computers. And/ or so that when DH logs in, he sees updates I've made from when I logged in? We have a new iMac (Leopard) and Mac OSX 10.4.11 laptop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 new Apple TVs, I have 1 Second Gen Apple TV, I also have a new 3rd gen iPad, and a new iMac. Since I got the new iPad and new Apple TVs, iTunes Home Sharing stopped working reliably. I say this because this is when I noticed it. I had not really used home sharing much in the 2 months prior because I sold my old ipad in anticipation of the new one. When trying to access my video collection on iTunes, the iPad and AppleTVs will see my iMac's Video collection, but when selected, it thinks awhile and then the % indicator goes to 50% and stops waits awhile and then indicates that there are no videos.
The only way to get it to work again is to Stop Home Sharing on my iMac and then start it again. Then it works instantly. Less than a day goes by and bang, the problem comes again. Because I can get it to work via iTunes, I have to assume that it is a software issue and not a wireless router issue (im using an airport by the way). I don't know if iTunes is having a hard time keeping up with that many clients (the ipad and 3 apple TVs), or what, but the issue is very annoying and really ruins the Apple experience.
