Apr 30, 2012If you want to do modify or upgrade a Macbook you Should first back up your music, documents, photos etc to an external hard drive. That much I did know. And lucky for me because a few later I spilt wine on the keyboard. (Computers are not wine oriented). Lucky for me it was saved by a Mac expert. The iTunes library which also includes non-Apple purchases is sitting in an external LaCie 1tb Rugged external hard drive. And what I want to do is transfer/import the iTune library Back into the Macbook. Sure it probably sounds easy to a vetran computer person or even to someone who grew up with computers but to me it's like speaking Cantonese.

Feb 10, 2012How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

Nov 10, 2007I want to keep my applications etc on one internal HD and use my second internal HD as a back up.I am a graphic designer, and i have been backing up to an external LACIE Porche 160 Gig firewire HD. This has worked fine, but...My second internal HD (112 gig?) is still loaded with 10.3 and has adobe CS2 on it along with some other crap that I no longer need.I have loaded Adobe CS3 on my primary drive and have all the files I need on that one...What is the best way to set up my second HD as a "slave" drive to improve the performance of my G5 dual 2 Ghz??Will there be any issues now that I loaded Leopard on the primary HD?

Jun 20, 2014My external hard drive has been repeatedly ejected improperly and now it is not displaying on my computer, not even in disk utility. How do I re-mount this external hard drive? In the past when this has happened, all I had to do was go to Disk Utility or use DiskWarrior to fix the issue but now it won't even show up in either of these apps.

Feb 5, 2010I am running OS 10.6 on a MacPro 2,6 MHz (build late 2009). Besides the 650Gig factory HD there is also a 1000Gig Samsung Spinpoint F3 with an HFS and NTFS partition and a 320 Gig Samsung HD with 2 NTFS partitions in bay 3. The later gets ejected from the system quiet often. I get the error message, that a disc was not ejected properly. After this incident, some programs crash or the whole system freezes.

IMac :: Second Internal Hard Drive In Place Of Optical Drive?
Feb 5, 2010I did a search but couldn't find any specific info as related to the 20" (late 2006) iMac. Basically, I do a lot of audio work with Logic and DP and I'm interested in replacing my 20" iMac's optical drive with a second internal hard drive. If anyone has any experience or insight regarding this, I would greatly appreciate your input. About 6 months ago, I did a DIY replacement of my iMac's internal hard drive (upgrade to 1 tb), so I'm pretty sure I'd like to DIY an optical drive / hard drive swap - that is, if it's 1) Proven to work stably (thermally and otherwise) 2) Not going to require the iMac's fan to be running faster/louder than normal Looking at my iMac's system profiler, the DVD drive is on an ATA bus (which, as I remember it, is slower than S-ATA). What kind of transfer rates do you think one could realistically expect with a hard drive on this ATA bus? Also, would I have to be careful about new hard drive compatibility, or are S-ATA and S-ATA II backwards compatible with ATA?

Mac Pro :: Internal Hard Drive Installation?
Mar 15, 2009Hey guys, sorry this may seem like a basic question but here goes. There are many, many pages, websites and videos on how to install a hard drive into the MP, no problems there what my question is, is what's next?
The HDD is arriving Tuesday, once I have installed what will I have to do to it to make it a part of my current HDD. I assume Im looking at a RAID 0 using disk utility?
Before I do that will I have to install 10.5 on the HDD or just use disk utility to format it?
Mac Pro :: Internal Hard Drive Locked?
Jun 25, 2009So I had some issues with my system and finally decided it was best to get a new hard drive and reinstall osx. When I did this though, my second internal hard drive became locked. I have gone into the Get Info for the drive and it has the Privilege set to Custom. I unlock the lock in the lower right corner and try to change custom to Read & Write, but it does not make the change. I am at a loss on where to go from here.
I am on a MacPro running 10.5.7
Also, which I havent noticed before, the icon of the drive has a small silver lock in the lower left corner. This is the icon on the desktop itself.
OS X :: One Or Two Partition On Internal Hard Drive?
Jul 9, 2009I have MBP 17", 2,53GHz, hdd is 250GB. I have a lot of music and pictures and quite lot movies. On the other side I have a lot mails. Is it better to make two partitions and keep them separate? What is your suggestion? If I decide to do that, do I need to remove everything from hard drive to make another partition? I never did it before on mac, but I remember that is necessary on windows.

1. When I start up my MacBook Pro after the "procedure" it will put everything back to exactly how it is, right? Like, to the point where it doesn't seem like there is a new hard-drive in it?

I just know that I'm looking for something running 15000 rpm if possible, but I've heard that they don't make those for Macs and 7200 rpm is the fastest available. Is this correct?

Sep 15, 2010I got a new 1tb WD internal hard drive and I took it out of the box and popped it right into my macbook pro 15". It fits and i am able to easily close the back on the computer. My only problem is that when i start up the computer, it loads for a few minutes, but 100% of the time after about 3-4 minutes i get a notice saying I did not eject the drive safely and all that. After that the internal hard drive is no longer there. I cant see it in my finder, or disk utility. BTW I am booting from my old hard drive externally. What would cause the new internal hard drive to eject itself?
