OS X :: Abstract Background (Looking For More)
Jan 15, 2010
Very early on in using a mac I found myself setting my desktop background to the abstract backgrounds supplied with OSX. Now I've been staring at them for years now, with every major release I am hoping for some variation but it is not coming. So you say, why not change to something else? I tried but I find myself missing them and going back to them over and over again.
So here's the question. Another dozen or so backgrounds in the exact same spirit and style would put my soul at peace. But whenever I searched I only find "abstract" backgrounds in very different styles. Not one matches. Does anyone have (or know where to find) what I am looking for? I'd be forever indebted.

I cant figure out how to change the background color of it in candybar. I'm sick of the standard grey mac color. When I'm in candybar I go to the dock section-->view-->dock-->preview background..the options under preview background are greyed out. Also when I am in the dock section-->view-->background-->change color. I try changing the color but it doesn't change. Am I doing something wrong..or what?

I have a Macbook Pro and I have been recently changing around my backgrounds including my login background. However, when I changed my background via command in the terminal by switching the defaultdesktop.jpg with another picture in the CoreServices folder, My picture does not show up on the login screen instead it is just a plain blue screen. Is there anyway to restore the original login background settings?because I actually found a program "loginox" that easily changes the login picture however, it will not open because it says I have changed the original background photo.

my prof posts many x-rays in his pdf files which I need to print for class. However the black background of all these images is killing my ink supply. Is there any way I can print these pdf files without their black background? I don't see any such options in Preview, but I do have access to CS5 Design Premium if perhaps someone knows a technique through one of the programs in there.

In the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences, I wanted to add a new folder for use as my desktop background images. However, when I click on the + icon to add the new folder, it does not appear in the source list and instead, it duplicates my Aperture library source, as seen in attachment 1. If I try to add the new folder again, it says it is already present in the source list, as seen in attachment 2.
I've tried deleting my com.apple.desktop.plist preference file, and that resets things, but when I go to add the folder, it does the same thing. I've tried different folder locations, different folder names -- nothing works.

If anyone has a Playstation 3, you'll know what I'm talking about. I think they're mostly made in Java Applet. Slow moving backgrounds that can change color by the time of day or year. I would love to use something like that for my MacBook. Like a real slowmotion waterfall in black and white. Or a realtime sunset and sunrise.

just ordered my first mac and should have it delivered in the next few days.Ive always admired them but never had the chance to use one properly. Is there anything I should know coming from a strong windows background before i dig in? The primary function is to do a bedroom music studio, starting off with garage band, then moving on to logic if i feel the need. apart from that itunes for my music collection + iPhone, iphoto for my photo collection and general web browsing/social networking.

is it possible to launch OSX applications in the background without allowing them to steal focus from the current app? i sometimes want to have an application launch and not interrupt what i am currently doing.
here's an example:
i'm copying text from a webpage using safari and that i plan to edit in MS Office Word and so right after i open the webpage and its loading i use spotlight to launch Word and then go back to Safari. What happens is that while it is opening, at some point it will come to the front and interrupt my session in Safari.

I own a new 13" MB and a Samsung 40" a550 LCD TV. i bought a Mini-port-to-DVI cable and a DVI-to-HDMI. I hooked the HDMI into the 2nd monitor HDMI-slot on the back of the TV and the Mini-port into the MB. I can only get the TV to display the "standard" Mac desktop background -the one thats the picture of outer-space (purple & blues). but i cant get anything to show up on the screen other that just that desktop background. nothing else shows up.

I like putting different background pictures on my various folders, but I cant get the Mac OS X HD background to stick. My user folder sticks around after logout, but the Mac OS X one reverts to what I have set as defaults.
I'm the only user (therefore administrator as well), so I don't see what the problem is.

I am wondering why some new windows that I open on my MacBook Pro only open BEHIND other active windows. For example, I will click on a link in Apple Mail and the new Safari window opens behind other ones that were already open, so I have to move the already opened-windows to get to the new window that opened when I clicked on the e-mail link.

I have spaces enabled and most apps are set to a specific screen (iTunes in 2, Mail in 3, etc.) but when I'm in space 1 and I want to open itunes, I click the icon and it pulls me into space 2, as opposed to leaving me in space 1.
Is there any way to set the apps to just open in the background without becoming the active app, thus pulling me into a different screen.

I was wondering if there is an app (willing to pay) that will run in the background of my MacBook Pro and store all the log (when the computer is turned on, what app is launched, what time when that action take place....so on)
Maybe something that will take a snap shot of my screen every XX second and keep record of what key is pressed.
It would be great if that application has password protect so only I can access it.
I know that it might not be a good thing to do this, so please feel free to PM me.

I've a mac mini, with two 24" Cinema Led displays. One display is connected directly to the mac mini (main screen) and one display is connected through a DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort Converter from Athlona (secondary screen). Yesterday I rebooted the machine and since the reboot I cannot change my main screens desktop background. I tried every solution from several fora on the net, but did not succeed to change it. I only have a solid gray colored background. Normally, when you select a wallpaper, it instantly changes the background. Now it doesn't. You can see it change in the "Desktop & Screensaver" menu, but nothing happens in real. Changing the background of the secondary screen is no problem. When I restart the machine, you can see that the solid gray colored background goes away and the original chosen wallpaper appears, but then closes because I restarted the system. On start-up of the system, you can see the original chosen wallpaper again for a few seconds, while the machine starts applications to open at login, and then suddenly changes again into the solid gray colored background.
