I just hooked up my TV to my Mac using an ADC to DVI converter and a very long DVI to DVI. I'm getting a no signal message from my TV. I'm really new to Macs and therefore I'm sure I'm just missing a really simple way to change the display settings to output to both monitor and TV. I can't find any advanced display settings of any kind. I swear I tried to search the forums, but I couldn't find a thing.

It works fine at my house but it only works occasionally here at school. I'm not sure what the problem is but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what I could try to fix this issue.

I've been having problems lately(one month) every time I try to connect to the net. it says there is no connection. if I refresh, it works. the reception icon was showing full (4 bars). 3 days ago, no reception, o bars, today, I got it back. i am about 50 feet away, around a corner outer house wall. nothing has changed in terms of new or moved electronic equipment. I even turned off my 5.0 ghz phone.
any thought on how to fix this?
My internet keeps losing signal and will have to reset the internet on the computer, we thought it was but have changed to sky now and it still happens.

I am having internet connection issues with my MacBook Pro 2011 - running the latest version of Lion OSX. My connection cuts out regularly (every 10 - 15 minutes) despite having a full wifi signal. It is happening on two different routers, in two different locations with two different ISP's.Â
When I run Network Diagnostics ISP is the test that fails, but after a couple of seconds diagnostics fixes it until the next 10 - 15 minutes. The only other alternative is turning wifi off and on. Both of these only last for the 10 - 15 minutes before it cuts out again.Â
It is very frustrating and research online seems to indicate it is a Lion issue. I have made an appointment with a genius, but browsing online it appears there is no solution. It is not acceptable.

I'm running 10.5.7 on my MacBook Air and while browsing the Console System Messages I came across the following lines which seem odd.
I have tried to understand what is going on and validated all my fonts using FontBook with no errors. I have not installed any fonts apart from those that come with the system and iWork 09.
I presume that these messages should not happen as they are errors and must be the result of something being wrong.

My Mac G5 tower's boot drive just conked. I can't even boot the machine with it hooked up -- I was able to start up with the install DVD once the boot disk disconnected, and it sees the secondary internal (non-boot) and external backup (FireWire) drives okay, through Disk Utilities. I have a ton of important files and programs on the boot drive that I'd like to retrieve if possible. I'm presently installing OSX on the secondary drive so I can at least have a hard disk to boot from.
Again, I can't start up with the damaged drive hooked up.
I was wondering if any one got any idea about idefrag, I recently found my macbook is giving me unsatisfying performance after around a year and a half of purchase so I thought I would do a defrag for the hard disk. I understand that the mac system does not need defrag but I have been dealing with huge files, i download a lot of videos and delete them. IDefrag price looks a bit high at around $35 for an app i will use once or twice a year. Any one with experience using this app, does it really help? is it worth it? are there any alternatives. If its going to keep my mac in tip top shape I will buy, I am afraid that it will not really help.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to mac. I have some files on my computer downloaded. some are wmv, some are avi. for some reason, a most of the files on my computer work and open perfectly, however certain ones give me an error message that reads:
"Cannot be opened. You may need to install additional software to view this type of file"
I have a few programs already downloaded that are supposed to convert these files. (Stuffit, RAR expander, Springy(doesn't work), Flip4Mac). I even checked to see if my software needed updating but my MBP says all software is up to date. How can i fix this problem so i can view the files??? I also have a file that is .f4v HD that won't open for some reason either.
Ok, so the email program on the mac is not working with me. I have set it up to retrieve email from (URL)
I can receive emails with it but, anytime i try to send out emails it gives me and error.
i have tried everything to get videos uploaded to youtube but nothing works imovie gives me a communication error timeout thin and in safari i use the beta uploader and it crashes safari after ti gets like 5% done and i tried the reg uploader on youtube and it started at 1 and i checked it at4 30 and it still didnt budge or upload idk.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got my 2nd WD My Book 1TB Home Edt. I had it formatted and partitioned twice just fine as HFS+, but decided that I was going to move the drive to my AEB and possible my aTv. So I went into disk utilities to make it just one partition, this is where my problem started.
When I went to "erase" the drive and reformat it I got a an error, "Filesystem verify or repair failed". I tried repairing the drive and nothing I new to try worked. So I plugged the drive into a WinXP machine and was easily able to reformatt it to FAT32 and/or NTFS. After this I am able to plug it into the MB again and it sees it just when. When I go to format it in HFS+ I get the same error and I have to plug the HD back into XP to reformat it.
Yes it has the latest firmware (Jan 2009) from WD. Yes it works fine on the XP machine.
Ok...I'm on an IMac (2007 White, 24"). Since SL was installed (unsure if that when it started) I cannot burn cd or dvd. Gives me errors, saying the media is unreadable. Ok, I says to myself, drive is toast. Tonight I boot into Windoze and decide to give it a shot. Works flawlessly! Went back to OSX and still doesn't work.
In summary: burns under XP, not OSX.
I have a macbook: model - A1342 its a 2009 machine. On start up it is giving a blue screen and I am unable to do anything on the machine. I know my hard drive is pretty full and I'm trying to use an external to pull stuff off to clear up some space. Its been blue screen on me for at least fifteen minutes. I don't know the OS I'm using since I can't boot up the machine to find out.

I have got a macbook pro with 2.2 ghz AMD 6750 graphics card. Its around 8 months old. The battery used to last around 4 hours but recently I get around only 2 hours. I have tried to change settings in energy saver to improve battery life but its still the same. I ve noticed that when it shows AMD graphics in about my mac, it takes more battery life. So, I guess its using more battery at that time. Ive read it switches automatically depending on the task but is there anyway to change it in settings?Â
Also, how is it possible to get the best possible battery life? Should I keep charging and discharging it every now and then.? Currently I unplug the adapter as soon as it gets fully charged and the battery last for over 2 hours (surfing, listening to music, half an hour of video).

I have a blu-ray drive that I connected to my macbook pro under vista buisness using boot camp. I put in a blu-ray movie and a regular dvd and they both give me a crackling sound about once or twice every minute that is pretty annoying whenever I try to play a movie under cyberlink dvd. This happens when I use the external blu-ray drive (with a dvd and blu-ray) and the interal dvd drive (with a dvd) I'm watching a movie in (URL) right now and I occasionally hear a very small crackle, but no where near as bad as with cyberlink.
I'm not sure if this is a cyberlink problem or an audio problem under boot camp.
Ever since I bootcamped my Mac with Windows XP Professional, whenever I restart or boot up in OSX my time is always behind by 6 hours. I went into the settings and unchecked the set date and time automatically but it keeps giving me the wrong time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the last 3 days I will be in an application (safari 4,actually) and the app will give me the beachball. I have seen the beachball many times in safari 4 so I would just force quit the app. Well in doing that its still shown with the blue dot under it on the dock, aswell as in the force quit menu. I go to open another app (say iphoto or firefox) and I also get the beachball, and I try to forcequit the app, and it will not force quit. Only way to cure it is to manually restart my macbook pro. (I have a unibody 2.4 macbook pro btw_). I have repaired permissions. Deleted and reinstalled safari and ran weekly/monthly scripts via cocktail.

Just moved from Mobileme to iCloud. ICal on iMac (10.6.8) now constantly giving a "can't connect to server. Reenter password." Acct prefs for ical have correct icloud info. My account info changed when I set up iCloud-I had to create a new account id so I think this could be at the root. Is iCal maybe looking for the old mobileme info (again, my prefs for ical account reflect the new icloud information.)
